• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Guys I suggest we let k_merse have his say on his port of the Akira. He's a mostly reasonable guy and a bit of a delay is an understandable compromise. Just a second opinion. So no rush or pressure. :D

I would bet he will give you permission to use it. :) You might find him on fleetops easier, but he is not extremely active on either site.

And, for some reason I have not been ablt to see that I have new PM's lately. I noticed that a white box appears in the upper right corner where you type in your password. if you click on it, then it will tell you you have new pms.

I thought that was what I said, just not as well.

Yeah I and Hellkite discovered this a while back. It's one of those skin bugs I have yet to squash. I'll get to it.

I appreciate the offers, people. Thanks for the generosity! I am no longer confused as to why K_merse hasn't yet answered since he's usually very prompt and has been more than generous with his stuff in the past. I've already got the prelims done and all I need is his permission to release. The prime reasons I want to use his is because the poly count is reasonable, the hardpointing is perfect, and, it's a K_merse mesh. He is another one of those modders like Chiletrek. You know, the kind who get under appreciated by most of the Community. Because they do a lot of things which no one else even realizes they want. Until they look at something he's done and go, "Wow!" I was preparing a backup plan just in case he does say, "No." I believe it would be in the best interests of all Terrans everywhere and here at MSFC in particular to await his response prior to doing anything else.

Man! I really hope he says, "Yes!" *crosses fingers*

The Terran Empire Defiant class has just been sent into the Files email Inbox. I know some of you may be wondering why I am choosing such high poly meshes to use. Well, I want the Terrans to stand out a bit. The Terran Empire is special to me. One of the very first Star Trek episodes I ever saw was Mirror, Mirror. Made a permanent impression on my six year old(at the the time) brain. The novelty to me of a place where good was evil and evil was good was wonderful! Even after all this time, Mirror, Mirror is still one the best of all the episodes from all the series. DS9 and ENT tried really hard and their forays into the Mirror Universe are very good. But they did not quite match the essence of the TOS episode. The 'Almost Mirror' TNG episode, featuring Ent-C and Tasha Yar, was fun but it too had something missing.

Why did I choose meshes and texture sets which are right at the edge of the envelope for a lot of people's computers? I want people to experience the 'Wow!' factor I do when I watch Mirror, Mirror. Like most of us in the 21st Century, I suffer from a very abbreviated attention span. Too many things going on simultaneously for me to give any one my full concern. But this TOS episode is one which causes me to stop whatever else I'm doing to watch from start to finish. And it makes me wonder and think about things elsewhere in the multiverse. Is there a me somewhere who accepted the OCS slot? Is there a me somewhere who did not get married? Have children? Ran for mayor? To me, this is one of the things which makes Star Trek so very unique among television series. Its ability to make me part of the entertainment by encouraging me to use my imagination.

What I didn't like about the mirror universe as it was portrayed in the series was that it worked only in one direction. The good guys became evil and the evil guys became... even more evil. Instead of good. I would have loved to see the Mirror Dominion as a peaceful force, same with the Cardassians. It just feels like they didn't realize all of the logical consequences of having a mirror universe.

This is what I meant by DS9 and ENT not being quite on target.

In that context that would make the Romulans like good humans with small emotional controle problems, The Klingons would be Honorless scheming chaps tring to conquor the universe; the Dominion would be like the UFP with the Founders promting racal harmony; and the Cardassians would be a Humanitarian armada seeking to free and protect all exploited peoples. Breen would be the most logical and trustworthy of Races. Packleds would be articulate supergeiuses and well the list goes on:cool:

I am thinking about a science vessel. I've no idea which one to use. I'd like for it to be something other than a Nebula class. Fine ship and there are lots of really well done one available, however. I just want something different.

After an allnighter last night to calm my jangled nerves by doing something I like. I finally have some ship textures I think are decent. Jet and I agreed before the spate of Terrans we've released lately I would stick to TNG era designs and he would do the TMP/TLE ones. It has worked well. While waiting for K_merse to allow me to release his Akira mesh, I started playing around with the Excelsior class and variants of her. Offered to send the results to Jet for him to release. He PM'd me back he was completely covered up by schoolwork so I could release these if I wanted to. I think I'll hold off a bit longer on sending them in, in case Jet changes his mind. But they did turn out pretty good.

Inspired by Jetfreak's Terran Ent-E, I decided to look up my copy of his War Sovereign textures and make a fleet version of the Terran Sovvy. She turned out well, doncha think? As soon as he grants permission, this one is sent in as well.

She looks good, I would venture a guess and say that in this universe the Enterprise is still a Galaxy right?

Maybe not. One of the oddities of the Mirror Universe is how congruent it is to the Prime. There are deviations, but these are mostly minor. For there to be another Jean-Luc Picard, Deanna Troi, and James T. Kirk is mathematically astonishing. Really, the equations are beautiful. Take up a page and a half of very small writing. It is entirely possible that in the macro, the Mirror Universe and the Prime are exact matches. but the differences at the micro means one universe arrives at the nodal points via a different path. Much like there is more than one way home from the grocery. Taking an alternate route home means you arrive at a different time, experience a different set of circumstances, etc. Yet you still arrive home, which is where you set out to go in the first place. Really kewel stuff!

"Captain's Log, Stardate 11092905.15, Rear Admiral Villanueva recording. As ISS Empress departs Earth on another mission, I look back on my home. During the hard months ahead, as Empress gains new victories for Earth and the Empire, the memories of warm sunny days with gentle breezes bringing the salt smell of the Pacific overladen with the scent of the flowers of the rain forest, shall be all I have close by of my home. I am loathe to leave, yet even more loathe to stay behind whilst others gain glory and treasure. Empress and her crew will do their best. And that best will be the benchmark by which the rest of the Fleet will be measured."

This gets sent in as soon as I finish making a BB and wireframe for it. Set up for BSGHRM2.0 format already. I'll need to make adjustments to the map editor lists as well.

Nice I've been playing with the texture and model trying to learn 3D Max texture/hardpointing/Bump Mapping techniques. However so much on these past few days I haven't had a chance to finish it and test it yet.

Looking good nice to see another liner.

I'm glad you like it, Maj. Now if I can just encourage someone to make two more skins We can have twelve liners and fill out the fleet some more.

Some ideas for names I was kicking around

Oz Logistics

Dingo Transport

Katala Freightways
