• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Indeed, now that I have a template made, I can easily do schemes like the one I did for the majestic ship. Just let me know what colors you like, and I"ll post the textures here.

I see no reason to be this rigid about ship types and classes. UPS and FedEx both use cargo versions of the most well known jetliners. Which is how I view this vessel. But you probably have raised a very valid point, Z. So, I'll not bother with this anymore.

Hello:
Those are very nice pics. I like how the new version of the Liners looks like.

I think both points are valid. In fact, that might also explain in the serie why some of those hips had more people than other ships of the same design: Olympic Carrier having 1500 passenger, while the Pyxis had only 600.

It all works perfectly fine  .

I agree I see your point. What do you mean you will not bother with this anymore?? I think it is all a great idea.

Please, let me know what color schemes you want, it takes very little time for me to do it, then maj can send me the logos, and I will post the final texture here.

As I said, Z, not much point in me continuing fooling with this if no one wants cargo versions of luxury liners. So I stopped.

No one said they didn't want them. What I read amounted to the fact that it had never occured to them to make cargo versions.

Indeed, I never said I was against it. I don't know why you got that impression. If you want them to be cargo ships then it makes no difference to me. You are the one writing the odf's and coming up with logos'names.

I am sorry if my misunderstanding somehow gave you the impression that I didn't like your idea. So please, let me know what colors you want before I have to activate my cylon agents.:naughty:

Z. it's not you. I've no desire at all to continue modding A2 right now. I have been hard at it for a very long time doing a great many things. I am badly burned out. Even though you most definitely did not mean what you posted to be taken in the way I have, I thought to myself, "Ya know, he's right. I do need to remember mine is but one viewpoint among many of how Star Trek should be. I've no right to attempt imposing my viewpoint on others. Because such behavior is rude and disrespectful." I seldom do what I am about to do but maybe if I explain what's going on, it will make sense. I currently have three projects going on, in various states of disarray.

Version XI of the Physics Project - Maybe this time I can find all the problems and fix them.

A ST:XI based full race mod - Stalled due to my inability to make ships and stations the way I see them in my mind's eye and my hesitancy about asking some of the few modellers left to take on yet more work which will be underappreciated.

Two or three new maps based on some things I've always wanted to try out. These are merely in the sketch and backstory phase but already I can feel the pull towards pulling an allnighter to finish them by dawn and send them off before I go to work.

A Terran full race mod - Stalled due to my priorities being geared towards the Physics Project and again my inability to make something new and different which actually is new and different and is not just another sorry excuse for 'teh EBIL Starfleet'.

I know I asked for discretion from some of you on this last one and I am deeply sorry I have abused your faith and trust in me this way. But, if I don't explain so everyone understands, I am going to explode. I cannot currently make any of these come out the way I want them to. The way people who like my stuff deserve. I have worked and slaved and sweated and cursed and then worked some more. Whenever I fix one thing, something else breaks or goes haywire. So it all seems pointless and futile and very frustrating. I'd rather do nothing at all than turn out things done halfway. Or incomplete. Or worse, shoddy enough to wreck someone's game. And if doing nothing means others think I am being a pain in the backside and a little stuck up right now, well that just adds to the aggravation doesn't it? I have grown to dread logging in to MSFC because I know I am going to say or do something which really ticks everyone else off. My viewpoint on practically everything seems to be either at variance or at loggerheads with nearly everyone else here and this is something I very much do not want to put my friends through. Because they are my friends. Does anyone need a better reason than that?

So I started playing around with MechCommander2. Sat down and played through the first four missions of HeadHunter's campaign. They are very good. But they could be better. I can mod them and things don't break. I can mention things about them here without offending anyone. I can make them work the way he intended, not the way they are now. And I find it enjoyable and fun and entertaining. All the reasons I used to mod A2 for. Modding A2 has not been fun for me for a very long time now. I've no desire at all to mod for Fleet Ops. It is far more complicated than I think it should be. The vast majority of people over there will only complain loudly about how terrible my mod is and how I should have done it this way and blah blah blah. Yet even fewer of them mod Fleet Ops than people mod A2. But they'll all line up to make gun runs on anyone who dares to do so. So this would be even less fun than the things I am trying to do for A2.

So I am going to make HeadHunter's missions work in Stock MC2. because I find this interesting, diverting, relaxing and completely enjoyable. It also gets me out of the line of fire I draw whenever I speak my mind and makes people less irritated with either myself or my posts. And these are both very good things from my viewpoint. So for now I've stopped having anything to do with A2. Or BSG for A2. I've pulled the game from my HDD and stored it. The discs were cleaned and also stored. For the first time in nearly nine years, my online life is not in standard orbit around A2 and all the things which go with it. The change has done me some good already. I can only hope the good will continue.

Though I completely understand and respect your decision I do want to clarify something. It is YOUR MOD. Nobody, and I mean Nobody's opinion matters but your own. You have every right to impose your opinion on us, ESPECIALLY when you are the one doing the modding. And on top of all that, NOBODY took your opinion as disrespectful, or rude.

Now as I said, I completely understand your choice, but I want you to know, that we all back you in your plans and choices. Nobody(ok maybe jetnova) would ever take an opinion on a mod you are planing as disrespectful. It wouldn't even make sense.

So thank you for your concerns, but you have offended no one. Do what you want, and we would all respect your decision, even if you decided to drop the projects completely.... But please don't.

I'm going to second Adm_Z. I completely understand not wanting to compromise the quality of somthing. I have some projects like some of these TMP ships that I have actually been working on for around 2 years. I also understand being burned out. It happens to us all. Take a rest and if and when you decide to step back up we will still be here.

Completely agree with Z and Starfox, and if anyone's gotta worry about really offending others,
then maybe others needs to open up a bit instead of being narrow, and see from your point of perspective TF.
The works you've presented to this community are grand, very well oriented and executed.

Pepperman suggested I post some pics. Good suggestion. Agreed. Doing this as a favor to him. Reinstalled A2 just to make these pics. Since I no longer mod A2 and I very much dislike FleetOps, I understand why some around here may not value me as highly anymore. Note these are set up for A2 in my personal install. I'm thinking of sending off the related files for these to pepperman. He can do as he likes with them.

Thunderfoot! Man its good to see you back and posting. We were all going crazy without you here. I don't know where you get these ideas about us not valuing you.:lol2:

Cool pics man, I find it unfortunate that you retired your A2 skills. We will always need talent like yours to keep this community alive.

Anyway, welcome back Rich, I hope you are feeling better than the last time you posted here. :salute:

Just here long enough to post the pics pepperman requested. As a favor to him. He and Atolm are part of the Good Guys. Very few of those left, if there ever were all that many in the first place.

And with this, I'm gone.

So I saw Aad's take on the Ambassador somewhere one day. And I thought, "Very good! Must. Have." Then I remembered I no longer had A2 installed. "Drat!", says I. Drat! Drat! Drat! So I reinstalled. Then, I added Aad's Ambassador. "Oooh! Pretty!", says I. Being absolutely unable by my nature to leave well enough alone, I started tinkering with the textures. Nearly everyone uses LC Amaral's as a start point. They are good But I've always felt they were far too dark for a pre TNG/TLE ship. Would Admirals Sulu or Chekov let Starfleet walk about the Alpha Quadrant in Confererate Grey? Whatever would the Klingons think? After all they've gotten used to that eye hurting shade of ivory/bone white burning out their optical targeting sensors whenever the production crew threw a spotlight or four on the real stars of the series and films. I'm thinking, "Nope. Not a chance." If a variant of white or ivory was good enough for the ol' 1701(With noh bluddy A, B, C, or D!) or the Excelsior, then it is a good enough color for everything else in Starfleet. End result posted below.

Sneak peak of the new translucent wireframe and build button sets I am working up. This a first run version, however. My brilliant idea of colorcoding the buttons to the races failed utterly when I started on the tl'Ingan and Collective ones. Ship image just blended in to the background. Since real modders can't do such stuff after expending all their creative energy on giving us the perfect mesh and textures, it is left to us very minor mostly unimportant minions to mindlessly slave away under the lash of public opinion and give the people build buttons and wireframes which look good and are functional. Sic transit gloria, Y'All! rofl Oh yeah, almost forgot - Y U Peek when I axed u not tu?

She looks very nice TF.

I must confess, lack of wireframe and/or buildbutton with a mod is one of my pet narks. Usually its the wireframe missing and I end up using the BB as a wireframe (it takes about thirty seconds to write the code to do that!).
Hmm, I guess I better be careful now having said that. if I ever forget to include a build button or wireframe, slap me.

I used to just reuse the Stock ones over and over. But after awhile I got tired of doing so. 'Buh buh buh...everyone already knows how to make one of those for themselves!" Suuure, they do. And they can write their own code for one without trashing their Sprite files, too. One of those things which no one seems too terribly interested in finishing out, so relax. Uncle Thunder's got your back. Wow! The proper quantity of a quality pain med can really change a fellow's viewpoint right around can't it? hee hee hee. For some reason I feel the urge to Rickroll someone today.

Gorgeous Ambassador man! I think you are right, they are usually too dark but yours is spot on. You GUIs are always impressive as well, I can't wait to see more. :yum:

Thaank yuh. Thaank yuh vera much. Which reminds me, why don't we have an Elvis emoticon? Greatest fan made Star Trek website ever and not a single sign of The King anywheres. It's a grave injustice to Rock an' Roll, it is. Aad's textures are always 512 x 512, my preferred size for them as I think this offers the best compromise between playability and detail. I merely tweaked the lightmaps and then adjusted the Brightness up by fifteen percent while also increasing the Contrast and Intensity by ten percent.

As to the other, this is not my GUI. It is FahreS' CompactClear GUI. :worship: I just colored outside the lines a little, lol. This is the Starfleet one. The tl'Ingan one is very close to feldgrau in color. The Rihannsu one is a medium olive. The Cardassian one is dark saffron. The Borg one is gunmetal. Species 8472's GUI is an eye hurting shade of pink(I was trying for unsettling. That'll teach me to be careful about what I wish for, lol) The BSG ones(both) are light grey. The Terran one is blood crimson. The Dominion one is regal purple and the STXI one is silver. I know, I know the RGB code reads as lavender, but in game it looks silver.

The really cool thing is anyone could do this by copy/pasting the files, renaming them and then doing a color swap on the renamed files. I think I still have the RGB codes written down in one of my notebooks somewhere. The new build buttons and wireframes will all be on a 80% black background with a silver border. The build buttons will be smaller copies of the wireframe. The wireframe does not have the ship cut into pieces and then pasted back together. When something is broken badly enough the whole thing blinks red on and off. Do 'em this way because the info as to what system specfically is broken is right ther beside the pic if I want to take a closer look. Doing wireframes to the Stock template is what I suspect turns so many off towards doing them for mods. Every time I've tried to do one this way it looks horrid and none of the pieces match up.

Thought everyone should have a look at the new build buttons and wireframes. still a W.I.P. The coding stuff for the gui_global.spr isn't yet working entirely correctly but I've done enough I want to show off a bit. I was inspired by FahreS' CompactClear GUI mod. I thought the Stock BBs and WFRs looked perfectly awful with it. So, I began doing a few ships every day and the Feds are done. Along with the STXI fleet and the Terrans. Be sending these in by packs as soon as I get everything worked out to my satisfaction. Please note these pics are about enhancing the GUI, not showing off the ships.
