Thanks for being so patient with me in this model. I have been working on it today and got a little done, not a great deal. I plan on getting the base textures done them going to see if perhaps if Jetfreak would be interested in polishing them up for me. He has a lot more skill than I do in the 2d graphic department.

I'd be more than happy to lend a hand to you guys. I've been looking for a distraction from my current work anyway, I recently found myself too engrossed with the TMP pack. A change of pace or era is always good.

Feel free to send me the needed files Maj, and I'll see what I can come up with. Hellkite, if you have some specific guidelines please tell me, that'd be great!

Sure thing thanks Jet, if you can give me a couple of days I'll get those files to you. I just need to do a few things to the model, in terms of texture alignment and development.

I seem to be better at TMP and ENT era textures than TNG for some reason anyway.

Do you have a working copy of MS3D so you can few meshes?

Yes, I have a working copy but my skill in actual modeling is rudimentary, no, actually zero. :( Anyway, maybe we could do it in the same style as the Dawnstar. Blank templates with some solid guidelines should be good. Just leave it to me to fill the gaps!

I also agree on TNG textures, they're the hardest to do out of all eras since they're the ones needing the most detail and variation of colors. Not to mention the mind-boggling amount of windows, escape pods, et al.

Just send me a heads up when you're ready, it's all good. :D

I already have the templates ready, just having MS3D means I can send you the mesh as well and you can see how it looks on the model as you work on it.

Yeah windows are the worst part of any texture, even on ENT era ships. Thought I must admit I am really enjoying working on the ENT era designs.

Lets hope we can get this ship done and out to HK and the MSFC Community. :)

Thanks man, feel free to send me the Seraphim's 2d drawings so I can get a good idea on the design direction. I'm thinking on doing her in an Aventine/Proteus inspired aesthetic (if it's okay with you). :D

You're welcome. I have done a few minor details to the ship that I have no doubt Jet will improve upon once he gets his hands on it. I'll see about sorting out the issues with texture application today or tomorrow and send it off to Jet.

In the mean-time I have left a few screen-shots of it's current state.

Nice work man, I'm just thinking where to put the hangar bays. Are they like in the Akira?

The hangar bays are the back bits on the texture, well I think that's where they are supposed to be.

In any case I have sent the file your way, included is the model in ms3d format and the textures in psd format. Plus a little chit chat description in the email.

OTHER STATS
Maximum Quantum slipstream drive
Cruising Speed Warp 9.65
Mass 1,1915,000 metric tonnes

Length 5245 M

Decks 43

I'm just trying to make something sure here. I'm about to start some basic drafts on the ship's finer details and I'd like the confirm the mondo-massive size.

Good to see how far this is progressing

The way I understood it, the fighter bays are on the underside of the saucer (I assumed through-deck from the layout). I also modelled in a pair of hanger/cargo bays on the aft section of the saucer, between the two secondary hulls.

From the pics Maj has put up, looks as if you're assuming a hanger on the rear of the overhead rollbar, all I put up there was a bunch of torpedo tubes, but I don't see why there couldn't be. Not as if it's a small ship...

EDIT - purple aux-projectors, nice touch

yep she is a big girl LOL but

....From the size of the Achilles class (612m) I believe that you ship will be 2019m long.

think I will go with Fahres Size est :)

I really like what you did out of the high poly mesh. It looks like a complete new mesh to be true.

I textured in the bays you said in your post, but I also added the ones in the back pod, as I feel that space is wasted otherwise. I thought maybe it could be used as cargo bats, or a shuttle bay or something. It could even me an emergency huge bay for specialised missions like evac or emergency medical missions.

Thanks, I thought they looked good and would fit. I think you did your ones when you were building the mesh purple and that's where I got the idea from.

Thanks, but KJC did most the work, all I did was seperate the thing as the conversion process converted into into one mesh group. It's what took the longest to do. Especially the nacelle, I almost missed the bottom warp grill, that's on the bottom of the nacelle.

Got it Hellkite, 2019m it is!

Although to be honest I rather liked the 5km scale for some odd reason.

well if we went with the bigger size she would bigger than a Voth City Ship, 4900m of even a Spacedock is only approx. 5.5km in Height and Diameter: approx. 3.8km

With her at 2019m she is twice the size of Deep Space Nine "Diameter and Height : approx. 1km"

at current size everything to scale :)

Scalofs.png

Borg Cube is Length: approx. 3500m

Note at this size the width of the ship longer than Sovereign's 685m

 she a big girl

Yeah, I'm concerned about the vessel's apparent downsizing because it has an adverse affect on the launch bays as it is currently modeled. At a 2019m. length, the bays become shrunken too and the overall height is reduced by half, making recovery more precarious.

You know, after much thought, I'm somewhat inclined to stick with your original 5000+ meters (or a bit less, maybe 3500m). Hellkite, if the Seraphim is supposed to have a true extra-galactic capability, then I say we go for it. Starfleet has made massive structures as early as the 2280's anyway (See: Spacedock) and by 2415, its reasonable to assume that enough development has passed to apply such massive construction methods on a testbed starship. Besides, there's only one Seraphim in service right?

Additionally, it would make your design more imposing and unique. Not to mention be able carry MORE fighters. We just have to play our cards right and do our best the overall size plausible.

Another option is two texture sets, one for the 2km size and the other for the 5km size. Pretty much all you would need to do is change the size of the windows, escape pods etc. I can hardpoint two versions of the ship easily. ;)

We can still settle on the 3000m size as a middle ground.

It is a one off ship

As far as bay size I did Volume metrics based off my drawing

at the 2019m you Could dock 3 defiant Class Star ships have room and stack them two high and you still have room for a runabout to fly out LOL

defiant Class

Beam: 90.3 meters
Height: 25.5 meters

rear bay door

Beam: 384,meters
Height: 68 ,meters

3000m size as a middle ground. works

by the way that Volumetric was on just one of the back door of the hager

Yeah, sounds good to me. I was also talking about the smaller side hangars on the saucer bottom :lol2:
