Hey guys, I finally have a progress report here that's worth posting (finally). After a number of strenuous tries and a couple of hissy fits, I think I've settled on a definitive look for the big gal's primary hull. Late during the design process, I eventually decided to dump the originally planned Aventine-inspired color scheme as I didn't really find a good way to add it to the generally angular (stealthy?) hull lines in general. I'm also thinking that she may turn out to have different hull parts altogether seeing as she's a design from 2415.

I'm taking a very methodical texturing and design approach to the Seraphim while being faithful to Hellkite's original vision. However, technical merit and plausibility takes precedence over so called "aesthetics". I'm always keeping in mind her overall size and what kind of issues that may arise in her "in-universe" construction phase. This is why there is A LOT of hull segmentation, component modularity and other simplified shapes to make fabrication and construction easier for the various Starfleet contractors involved in this mega-project. Modularity is key in her design process.

So here's the Seraphim's as she stands, currently to scale at the finalized 3000 meters length. I've also placed the MSFC Dawnstar in comparison to get a sense of her overall size. She was also the basis for the Seraphim's main color scheme.
Seraph1-1.jpg

It is also worth noting that I omitted the additional bussards, I felt they were redundant.

The finalized phaser banks are also segemented, and with good reason. A traditional single massive phaser bank presents a massive demand for power and control. If segmented, it makes multiple targeting easier and the power demands are divided equally. Their sizes alone are mind boggling anyway, each bank is practically equal to three Galaxy-Class phaser arrays stacked together.

A view of the bottom saucer, with the preliminary paneling in place. Still lots of work needed there.

This is a close up of the bridge section and the superstructure below it. The 120m. Defiant and 345m Intrepid are placed for size comparison.
Seraph3-1.jpg

 Still more work to be done but she's shaping up nicely even at this stage.

Beautiful work, I knew you were the right person for the job. You have a knack for doing TNG era textures.

Hello:
It is looking amazing . And I am also very impressed because of the size, since Starfleet is not used to make ships that big, so be careful with pesky Borgs or Dominion trying to destroy it, or Romulans trying to steal it :).

Yeah, sorry about the lack of updates Hellkite. I apologize for the incognito status. You see, I've been deliberately abstaining to post some progress pics in order add to the surprise factor once she's done. :p I also don't want other people piling up on what "they think" the design should look like. That's usually the problem with posting WIP shots. You get conflicting opinions on what's "right" and "wrong". Sometimes, you get demanding posts which really get on your nerves. No offense intended.

But seriously, progress has been well. I've already finished the hull panels for the entire ship. All that remains now is the finer details like escape pods, windows, hatches, etc.

Pics will come when I'm happy with the 100% completion status. Meanwhile, I'll send the WIP shots to your inbox Hellkite.

I agree with Starfox on this, and time will tell. However on this model I doubt you have too much to be worried about as it has been sort of a community design. Hellkite designed her, I built her, Maj converted and did a base texture, you're texturing her properly. There's been a whole lot of input all the way along. In any case, if she's up to your usual standards she'll be a stunner. If you don't mind I'd like to try to apply the textures to the original hi-poly mesh when you're done.

... sounds like you're planning to put a fat "Built by drunk Vulcans" sign on her hull. :p j/k

Thanks for your patience Hellkite. Now that my Semester is over, I'll have more time to work on the textures.

Thanks gents, that's what I keep telling myself to keep me going. Maybe it's just my fear of pushing the envelope and breaking certain Starfleet rules in terms of design. When I finally post the finished pics, you'll see that I've made some "questionable" design directions on certain parts of the hull.

Oh well, it just adds to the surprise factor I suppose. I'll do it Aad Moerman style. No WIP pics, just boom! And you have the finished product. :p

So don't worry guys! I'll post pics when she'll be fully detailed. She's rather bland at the moment with no windows and stuff. :lol2:

And Terra, she's got it all dude! Seriously! Custom body kits, spoilers, spinners you name it! I even threw in a special Andorian vinyl set! Not to mention the killer Sound systems! :lol2:

100% Completion of Textures.

Yes, you are reading that statement correctly. Without further useless rambling from me, I'll just let these pictures speak for themselves. We can go through all the technical details and nitpicky explanations (excuses) later, I'm just happy to see these done!

Here's some teaser shots to get things started:

I've sent the necessary files over to Majestic. She's all yours from here on end. I'm really proud to see the Seraphim one step closer to completion! Been a real team effort and hope I didn't catch anybody too off-guard with the sudden post. :lol2:

Seriously, all that's left is the hardpointing and adding the registries. Should be dealt with in due time.

Beautiful work Jet, I'll be sure to complete this after my wedding, as I won't get much done before hand and I really want to make sure that she is fully ready for deployment. I think I'll do the registry like the ENT ships I am doing and get you to test it for me Jet.

It will be a couple of weeks at most, but she'll be well worth it. Jet you've done a fantastic job on her, you should be proud.

This might be enough to get me to start playing A2 again. You guys have done an amazingly good job on her. This isn't just a new A2 ship, it is a masterpiece!

I hope so I have missed seeing your A2 work on the forums and in the downloads section. A2 has been on a bit of a silent run these last couple of months.
