• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. Any thoughts from anyone here about the earlier mentioned weapon? I would have thought the concept would be of more interest here since the usage of the new FO code is not as popular here.:angel:

New capabilities are always of interest. Sounds like a good idea.
Hows the randomisation done, as A2 doesn't usually do random all that well.

well, its as random as it can be. the Fleetops devs somehow figured it out and I don't profess to completely understand it, but somewhow they managed to get it random enough, and weight your listed ships in the weapon odf so that you can make really powerful ships less likely to come, ect.

Well... It turns out that it is a bit harder to change the warpin than I thought. I can copy it easy enough, but I can't get the ships to warp to the Excalibur, nor can I get them to do anything once there. I have pretty much give up on this idea since it is really uncharted territory, and there isn't much help available.:oops:

Alright, I am still working on a suitable special special weapon, but I just got word from Yacuzza that I am good to release the ship.:excited: As soon as I can think of a good weapon for it, I"ll try and package it up and send it out. Because i haven't written stock a2 ship odf's in a long time, I won't include them in the package, but will include a regular version with no glows, and a set of wireframes and buildbuttons. If somebody wants to volunteer to write an odf or two for the ship with tooltips, that would be nice. They can just attach it here and I"ll add it to the pack as well as give credit to the writer.


As for the weapon, any more ideas for a command ship's special weapon would be great. :sweat:

I believe that the AI always warps those ships to it's SFC - maybe you could checkout why that happens? Or, wouldn't a simple change of 'needtarget = 0' work? Just guessing here as I haven't played around with Warp In in a looooong time. Or perhaps changing the range so you can only call it within a narrow area from the ship?

Letting the cat out of the bag, if you wait until 3.1.4, there will be a unit that does exactly what you want it to do (calls ships to self) :)

well, I can get ships to come to the point the ship was when you hit the button, but not to come to a moving ship, or get the ships do do anything once they are there(because I want them AI controlled)

But until 3.1.4, I guess I'll just have to figure something else out. ;)

Ah yup, I don't believe getting them to follow the ship is exactly possible with the current state of the replaceweapon :sweat: . That will have to wait until orders are perfectly transferable I believe, which will take some time.

You could always replace the Descent (the experimental warp in ship that I never use) with it. :thumbsup:

True, I could add it to experimental warpin(Which I will probably do), but I would still like to give it a special weapon of some kind:).

Here is an update on this. I gave it some kind of healing weapon, but it might change now. I might give it a fighter escort as it has 4 different fighter bays.:lol: I actually really like that idea...:idea:

Anyway, just got finished adding glows to the model and updating the warp nacelles to a more detailed look. Also fixed a material setting issue I was having.

Oh, and i forgot to post a while ago that Yacuzza gave me permission to use the model so I am gonna work on this mod a little more to try and get it finished, along with the Acquiescent(/Audacious. the name that was chosen in place of Acquiescent at fleetops) and maybe the century(with which we are having some issues at fleetops... it might get pulled and another ship put in its place)

EDIT: after re-reading what Yacuzza said, to avoid any possible problems(I might be that he intended me to use it in a single ship mod, not a multi-ship mod) I am gonna release these as separate ships but made to work together in a mod. Just to be on the safe side.:sweat:

I even had the Orca at one point:), however I will probably just use FO's peregrines in this case. :thumbsup:

FO's new fighter abilities are really impressive.

"The fighter ship AI has been vastly improved. Fighters do now directly support their fighter carriers. Fighter stay much closer to their carriers and attack what their carrier attacks... Improved fighter carriers: Fighter squadrons can now be controlled through their carriers...
Fighter squadron ship AI vastly improved" And, when the carrier dies, a ship fitted with adequate cargo space will gain control of the fighters.

Yes it's great to see the fighter ability improved. I have yet to figure out how to control them so they can attack different targets, but it's great to see the improvement. :)

I would, however I think it will be easiest if i just give the ship the same ability as the Avalon, which is FO's current carrier ship. Thanks for the offer though.:cool:

Aha, thats easy!:D Thats how I do it in my BSG mod.

Just remove the ignoreinterface = 1 line, or just let the fighters have a standard odf with fighter physics. :cool:

The Wyvern is my fighter not my carrier

My Carrier that is the Seraphim Class ,which you would be welcome to as well.

I was just given you a alternative to the out dated peregrines :)

Ah, I mis-worded that. I specified the avalon as being a carrier because I didn't think you would have known it was a carrier. I meant that the avalon has a special weapon that launches fighters and I would just give that same weapon to the excalibur.

Interesting adjustments to the textures. Nice to see some use my Mercury as I know the other versions out there are more popular than the PRP version. :thumbsup:

I don't know about that. Others may be more accurate to the origional because they have more detail, however I think yours has such a unique style, it mixes with FO stuff quite nicely. :thumbsup:

Thanks I try to make my models unique and not the run of the mill accurate. I sometimes purpose don't follow canon just to be different like the YY Federation textures I have been working on. :thumbsup:

Too true.

So... my OCD and pickyness got the better of me after looking at some pictures of the mercury's gun emplacements. See if you can figure out what my latest endeavor entails. :sweat:


Lets just say my 20 sum odf's for the mercury will be full of restricted firing arcs. :lol2:
