• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

    We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

thanks! Here is my final ship texture. I know the other one was good, so I kept it also, I just changed this one to match all the others.

Hmm... looks like you softened the warp nacelle colours... :rolleyes: Oh well, I can revise it I guess. But it looks great otherwise. :thumbsup:

yeah, thats what happened, but add a little glow there and it will look much better. I had another texture that I kept that was much better, but I figured I would do one just to match the others.

I hope you don't mind the competition with the Galaxy EVO. I too have been giving her some work. And I am pretty close to a stage where I can test it under stock. FO is a different story however. :p

Maybe someone can compare our textures and give a Pros and Cons comparison. ;)

Here is a tip on testing ships ingame.

If you have just edited a model and/or want to test it in-game without having to mod anything, a simple solution is to name the model something like fed_saber.sod and put it in the addon folder.(textures in the texture folder)* Then, just place the saber or selected ship on a map through the map editor and you can test it out.* You can see the model, size, effects, textures ect. without even opening an odf. In-fact, it would even be buildable if you wanted

In this case, I just put the textures in the texture folder and took the model and put it in the addon folder and named it fed_galaxy.sod.:thumbsup:

I always add it to the map editor build menu, it's what I did with the Dawnstar, Galor and Keldon ships I've showed off in my thread recently. It also means you don't override anything either. Although this is in standard A2 and not FO.

yeah, the cool thing with the addon folder in FO is that you can test it, build with it, ect, without overriding anything perminatly, and you don't have to edit a single odf.

Here are some more shots of my EVO edit. I might do more with it if we are to have some fun with this.:D

I would use regular borg textures, but I don't think they work for FO. I think FO used sprits and other things to add borg textures, not just textures. I"ll have to look into it though.:sweat:

FO uses the A2 system for assimilation but they also took advantage of the fact that the A1 system is still in place in the engine. The A1 system used mesh groups that had their corresponding nodes located in Root -> Damage -> Borg on the tree.

Yea the technice is often refered too as 3D borg textures.

All I really did was darken the textures, light up the lightmaps, and then create a FO based Borg texture set (optional).

Unless.... :idea:

Thats actually not the best way to do it.
It works without errors but one could do it better.
If you add the borg mesh to the joint "h_borg" you dont need this little white/transparent texture. Everything connected to the h_borg joint will appear after the assimilation. This feature was brought to us with Armada 1 and works in A2 too.
The advantage is, that you can use lightmaps on the borg mesh

Thats actually a very interesting idea. What if, when you captured a ship and were klingon, it had visible extra armor, and maby like a gun mounted to the top:lol2: You could do cool race specific things to it.

I don't know whether it is possible in stock A2, but maybe someone should suggest it to the FlOps makers. Maybe they could implement something like that.

well, they actually use a form of it called mixed tech. they disable the ability to steal construction ships from other races, but instead allow you to use that ship to build a mixed tech yard, which can build ships that have weapons and tech specialized for attacking that specific race.

I know they have a ton of other things planned as well.:yum:
