• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

    We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Nice, you really got the mix right man. I've noticed that a lot of the textures for the Feds in FO are a little washed out, I guess the bump mapping makes up for giving out extra detail and heavier lines. :cool:

yeah, the washed out-ness is due to the low contrast. If I knew how to do the bumpmapping the Devs use, it would be a little better. Heh, but since I can't, I will do the best with the allusion of a bumpmap.:sweat:

I personally would love to know how to do bump maps but I have never been able to learn how nor has anyone I asked has shown me.

Yeah, it has something to do with the model itself though. Like a LOD I assume. I just use a bumpmap filter on the textures, and some times it turns out well, some times, not.


As said before, Here is the Midway class given a FO makeover. The windows aren't as bright as I would like, but it is kinda hard to go back and edit everything, but the windows, so I just left them as they were. Here are some before and after shots.

I intend on attempting to add glows to these at some point for picture taking, as I have no intent on actually playing my mods. I mean, who does that?;)

It's very nice to see the carrier Fleet Opped. It actually looks very nice, only the windows as you mentioned. That's a great achievement. :)

Couldn't you just select the windows via the alpha channel?

Either way, I think you've really captured the FLOPs style with these. Not my favourite type of aesthetic; bit nice nonetheless :thumbsup:

True, the FO bump maps aren't exactly copies of the textures themselves. They have some differences like certain parts being highlighted and they also have a bit more details.

It's possible to replicate them for custom ships but that would take too much time, let alone copy the style entirely. Now THAT would be a challenge, even for me :p lol

It also looks like the Avalon's got some competition. That is one fine carrier. ;)

Indeed and one day I'll have to go back and make a more detailed version, fighter bays and all.

Thanks guys! I actually used the addon folder to replace the SOD of the descent class. The Midway bears a striking resemblance to her.

Adm_Z I think with all this work you've been doing you've convinced me (albeit not your purpose) to move my personal mod over the the FO system and give it a shot at modding.

Those texture adjustments look far better than my attempts over the years to match FO style and I think you have matched it minus the bump mapping.:thumbsup:


Sometimes the actual modding is more addictive than playing with the mod lol.

Not bad there, those lines seem to a bit heavy on the Achilles though. Must be why I was never too fond of bump maps.

Personally, I liked the random triangles on the Flourish myself :cool:, adds some uniqueness to a future ship.

Personally, I love bump maps... you just have to do it right. And I think Zaxx may have forgot to cut the seams between the armor plates into the lower levels.

Would you like me to do the bump maps? All I'll need is the main texture set to compare with and the current bump textures.

I"m sure I don't know what you mean.:confused: That quote is from an earlier attempt. I think I got it right in one of my later posts.

In any case, the main texture's have not been edited, and bumpmaps are in black and white, so you can download them from here.

If you need any help at all, I am willing to provide it, and if I can't help, I know others who should be able to.(TUN, Blade, ect.) :thumbsup:

Looking great mate, for a ship who's textures I were never overly found of you've made the ship look nice and making me thinking of once released including her in my mod. :)

Can't wait till you re-work the windows on the Midway. :cool:

thanks! Here is my final ship texture. I know the other one was good, so I kept it also, I just changed this one to match all the others.
