• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

    We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Was never a fan of the design myself, but still a quality model and texture. Better than I could do at any rate haha.

To be fair, I've got a few ENT one-episode-wonder ships I still need to make headway on, so back to regular scheduling soon.

That ENT ship I mentioned will have to wait as I've been on a Vulcan kit-bash spree lately...

This is what I'm calling the Pahn-Ree class, a Battlecruiser taking inspiration from the Defiant class.

This time I figured I'd try my hand at restoring an old BotF model, the Romulan R'Derex class, which looks like this for those who may not remember:

It turns out the artist Sebastian Hyde had posted some higher-resolution assets from this model on his website. These then were scaled further, recoloured and given some (hopefully) appropriate materials and normals:

Pretty cool. Love the Garidian, they are often ignored due to only appearing in "A Final Unity", a fond game from my childhood.

Yeah, I loved A Final Unity. I try and make Garidian textures of all Romulan ships I use.

I made some Chodak ships a while back too, which I could probably update to be less... rubbish. Might add them to the list of redos.

Yeah it was a great game. I wanted to do TMP era Garidan's for a bit of fun, give them a mixture of Romulan/Vulcan style mixture. Never got around to that though like so many ideas of mine hahaha.

Found a really interesting but untextured model on a free download site a while back, which caught my eye as it fit my mental image of a Betazoid design. After some extensive re-texturing and remodelling I had a good starting point for a small set of three (for now) ships. The Avandar class Scout, Khara class Light Cruiser, Indar class Command Cruiser:

In hindsight the colour scheme ended up a little bit too close to the "Covenant" from Halo, and I might shift it closer to white than purple. The central theme is the inner ring area, which I'm positing as part of the warp propulsion system, similar to the the Vulcan exterior rings. I also used a ring-shape for the Scout's sensor suite attachment.

EDIT: Just realised that the logo decal at the rear of the top of the Command Cruiser didn't render correctly... I'm too lazy to re-run right now, so just imagine it has the Betazoid flag emblem there. :D

These are amazing mate. Very interesting take, not what I was expecting when I think Betazoid, but so much better as they're so different to the Earth based Federation.

Less obscure this time, I thought I'd take a crack at adapting a T'Liss model I was using to become the variant from Picard S1. Took forever to find some decent reference images...

Fortunately the normal map was pretty easy to put together for this one, and I think it turned out okay.

how high poly are some of these models?
The Warbird is... About 5k I think. Not on Desktop at the moment so can't check, but most of the detail is in the normal map.

The Betazoid ships are in the same ballpark too, though the Tellarite station ended up a bit bigger. I need to do a final final pass on it, and bake the textures properly. I tend to avoid that for stations because the game I use them in (Stellaris) needs five levels for Starbase models and doesn't support separate ambient occlusion maps...

How is Stellaris? Ive seen people talk about it over on the Stellar Parallax Discord.. they have a section for it.. is it an RTS? similar to Sins?

Yeah, Stellar Parallax were working on a full total conversion many moons ago, but had some messy interactions with another project and ended up releasing a (really good) shipset for it. Max was kind enough though to share some Vulcan content with me for my project (Star Trek New Civilisations).

It's not really Sins-like - you don't control combat directly. It's very much a Paradox Grand Strategy game where you spend just as much time handling the economy or exploring as you do fighting people.
