• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

    We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Which reminds me... I should probably get some testing done on my mod too. I hope you have better luck than I do, though, I understand you experienced the same sound crash problems that I do.

Wow, I really can't wait for 3.1.4... It will fix soo many problems.:sweat:

Multiplayer is definitely the best way to balance things out and very time consuming. It will be made much easier once the dev tools for FO come out though.

The resources seem balanced at the moment, I just think the rate of income code or whatever was changed between 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 of FO and that threw everything off until I fixed it. All that's really needed right now is a cloak detection system and I'm trying to find unique ways that every race has to do just that. :naughty:

I'd be glad to help you test things out this weekend if you want Admiral Z.

All that's really needed right now is a cloak detection system and I'm trying to find unique ways that every race has to do just that. :naughty:

Lets see, I can think of a few ways of cloak detect/anti-cloak.


Passive Detection:
Actively sees cloaked vessels within Range (like stock).

Ping Wave:
Sends out an expanding energy wave that 'pings' cloaked vessels. Pinged vessels are visible for x seconds.

Anti-Cloak Wave:
Sends out an expanding energy wave that force decloaks enemy ships, no after math detection if recloaking were to occur.

Anti-Cloak Beam:
Fires a beam at a random nearby cloaked ship, the cloaked ship that is hit is then charged with a detectable and target-able (aka it is visible) signature. Visible for x seconds.

Anti-Cloak Mine:
Launches a mine that clings to any cloaked hull. Drains the cloaking energy temporarily making cloaked ships visible.

Cloak Detect Probe:
Launches a probe that detects cloaked vessels passively for x seconds.

Holy cow man, that thing is huge. Just for that, I should make the scorpion fleet shipyards, and do it actual size. Actually... it would make a cool map background object.:idea:

Hehe the Ekoset base is quite massive, as are most of their ships. I uploaded a patch that allows players to play as these last races the other day if you want to try them out. I should have a new patch that fixes some of the issues (targeting the Mylocks in particular) ready soon too. :sweat:

I'm fairly certain I've managed to finish up my new Mylock ships, bringing the disappointing choices of 5 to a whopping 11 ships. Mylocks prefer speed over power, but for the sake of fun I gave them a Battleship they can eventually grow into at the end of their life cycle as seen on in this screenshot:

That Ekoset base is very huge, a bit bigger and that could be the Sigma-verse equivalent of a Borg Unimatrix :) . I like how battles are looking in those screenshots.
I also like that you started modelling your characters, as I also have plans to do a similar thing, but in my case, a Leviathan Pilot (wish me luck, hehehe).

Maybe we should host multiplayer matches in a week or two Dom :D

But yeah, still a few unbalanced things like siege ships at the moment and Mylock cloaking, but the cloaking should be fixed as soon as I get cloak detection working. :sweat:

After testing out a few matches online with some testers, one thing has been universally agreed on: The large Zevestivan Yard sucks. It's unnecessarily huge, clunky, and just looks ugly. I decided to redesign the large yard from scratch and when it's ready I'll throw it in the next patch. I still kept the yard large, though it's size is in verticalality rather then length and width. I also wanted to capture a very cathedral-esque feeling with it. After all, the biggest and most sacred of Zevestivan ships are manufactured at this place.

This yard builds ships in the normal manner, though the Zevestivan do have a gate that can call in ships and their character units from out of the sector via wormholes.

Wow. I think the real genius behind that yard's design is the colours of the stained glass make it look like an actual forge. Very nice.

In the recent weeks I've set aside actual modding to work on art for Sigma, in particular the portraits for all the leader characters that appear when you select them. Much like Fleet Ops, Sigma features a leader system akin to their avatar system, and each race features four leaders that grant unique ships, abilities, etc to the player.

Here's a look at all twenty leaders that will be playable down the road (more details on them specifically will come in the race detail threads)
