Hey there everyone. I decided to jump on the bandwagon and show WIP screenshots of models being done for Sigma. Generally when I start a model I finish it asap, but occasionally I have a few that sit around for long periods of time (sometimes months). I'll be posting W.I.P. screenshots of models I start that I feel are ok enough to show, but still have a ways to go before being finished.

First up are several models I've had floating around for about two weeks, I might finish them up this weekend if I get time.

picture.php
A Cruiser sort of ship for one of the unannounced NPC races.

picture.php
A smaller destroyer sort of ship for the same NPC race as the above cruiser.

picture.php
A large base-like creature I've yet to finish. This one is still very early W.I.P. and it probably needs a lot more texture work.

Looks promising. NPCs are neglected in most mods, so it's cool to see some. And those models look really hi-quality. Thumbs up!

Thanks guys

I'll probably finish up the first two models this weekend and add their race to the NPC thread if time permits. I think I might forget that Bio Station model though and redo it.

Hello:
The designs look quite good, and I hope you will not have trouble with names... I say because that is what costs me the most >.<
Keep it up!

Yeah names can be crazy to come up with sometimes, I'll figure one out sooner or later.

Here's a simple creature I manged to start on this morning. I'm not sure if I like it with the sharp edges or rounded body though.

Interesting critter. Maybe you could have both the pointy one and the rounded one with each one being a different gender?

Yeah I'll probably end up using both models, either for different genders or the pointy ones might be more mature ones.

Here's a little creature I started on rather then finishing models that should be finished:

It originally was going to be some sort of space jelly, so I'll probably add tentacles and things via animated sprites.

Wow - i love the organic shapes you have created - tell me, what sort of poly counts are you talking here??

Thanks Majestic and it's good to see you back online. Hopefully Halo Reach kept things fun in the downtime :D

Thanks it's great to be back. Yes Reach keep me and Katala sane, as if I don't have something productive to do I go stir crazy and pretty much everyone around me. Thankfully the PC is back up and just in time, as starting next week the school holidays start, two weeks of fighting, complaining and "I'm bored" starts up.

I tend to keep most of my models under 2000 polys, though i think the purple creature I made is about 6000. I'll have to double check as soon as I get back to my comp with 3DS. Knowing my luck it's a bajillion polys

A lot of people ask me why my mod is called Sigma. Well, after long last I can finally explain.

That big giant blue thingy in the background?

picture.php

picture.php

That's Sigma. :cry2:

Despite the fact that the model is almost too big, it's only a whopping 2500 polys. I still think I might add in some more detail and work on the texture some more, so even though the model is done and in the game I'm only considering it W.I.P. at this point.

As Starfox said, space station or life form? (or both?)

Either way it looks amazing

That would make a great background for a map like the Argus array is in one of the Fleet Ops maps.

I have to agree with that statement.

Sigma is really looking to be quite spectacular.

Hehe it's artificial and non-living, I'll say that much.

That would make a great background for a map like the Argus array is in one of the Fleet Ops maps.

Indeed the Argus Array map gave me the inspiration for this thing and it will appear in the background of a multiplayer map. :excited:

If you're only using 2500 polys then that is some truly amazing texture work. I also want to know what it is. If it's nonliving and artificial then somebody or something must have built it. But why call it Sigma, and why does it need to be so huge?

Hehe I don't think I'll reveal its nature so soon, though I'm sure I could answer some things. It was indeed built by a group of somebodies, and the name Sigma is just what the V.R.A. decided to call it upon discovery.

I took another screenshot from a different angle to show more of the top of the station. I might add in more incomplete framework between the outer ring and the central structure to help imply that the thing was never finished being built:

It's beautiful, I like the idea that it was never completed. :)

Hello:
The idea is fantastic and the model looks great! Of course if you think you can improve it more, then you are welcome to do that :excited:.

Not only the concept, but the pics are also amazing, maybe the FleetOps environment helps to give an even more unique feel.

Keep it up!

There really is something about FO that feels unique, as far as the environment goes anyway.

I worked some more on the Sigma model... I should probably be working on other things rather then obsessing on this one so much.
