• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Very, very nice  . Some nice shadows on the engines, gives a nice sense of depth.

Whats the final poly count, if I had to hazard a guess I'd say between 100,000 or 200,00 polies.

Still though, beautiful ship; looks like it belongs in orbit above a planet, with maybe a few wraith ships nearby for a quick test...

She comes in at 284,782 polygons and do expect a new scene in the next few days.

Quite a strain, but for the quality is extremely good.

I know that it'd take me about an hour to render something like that with a good lighting set up; but then I use mental ray so that takes a while longer.

Well it's not too bad. Just rendering the Tempest with its light setup (which is fairly complex) at 1280*1024 takes about 30ish minutes. Now when I get into scenes with 10-20 ships and multiple effect now that takes about 1-3 hours.

They are part of the shield system.

Oh wow, it looks even better textured. :p Ok, now I've got a technical-ish question for ya... Where you have the lighting on the words Tempest and USAF, is that from a surface glow? Or did you have to manually add a light (or rather 6 lights?) to the scene?

All of that is done with lights with falloffs. The name Tempest has 2 on each side and the USAF has 2 on each side as well.

Basically since I'm building up a nice sized fleet I do want to do an animation sometime in the future so this is just setting up for that.

Oh cool. :) Since I'm still not all that familiar with Lightwave, are you able to parent the lights to the ship so that when/if you move it around the lights follow? Or do you have to do all that yourself everytime the ship moves?

Yes the lights can be parented to the main model or any model and you can also exclude other models from each light. :)

Oh that's so awesome

Is the Daedalus in that shot rendered in or is it a screen cap?

They are all rendered in with some color balancing in photoshop.

May I ask what class that is as I haven't seen further than season 2 in SG-1?

By the way, awesome picture. You really are giving us new wallpapers here. :D
It's an original design set in the stargate universe.

I'm just glad you guys are enjoying them. :)

Thanks for answer. :) As it's an original design, have you decided the name of it?
