• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Looking great, I would love to see a couple with the Apollo, Daedalus and Odyssey together in formation in normal space and hyperspace. :)

That sounds like a good idea.

Well when I have time to make the name plates for the other ships I'll get that started.

ok, now that is a fantastic image.

You should have a gallery up here instead of posting them in the thread, eh Majest?

Well I guess I can use the gallery as a more permanent home for my finished scene and still use here as a wip and discussion thread leading up to my finished works.

Okay I will see about setting up a new one in the next week or two. Need to reorganize the gallery a bit and create a new usergroup.

I see no harm in posting the finish ones both here and in the gallery. I find you get more responces posting them in the forums than in a gallery.

Thank you Majestic and I look forward to making some submissions in that week or so.

And the good thing about the thread is you can see what lead up to the final work which some people may be able to learn from. It also lets people see the finish work and give me some input before I make it 100% final.

Again I want to thank you all for make me feel so welcomed here.

No worries. :)

Indeed, you sure do some great work relating to Stargate, like those low poly models for the Stargate Project, ie Advanced Tauri Cruiser etc.

Again I want to thank you all for make me feel so welcomed here.

Your welcome its part of the initial founding ideas of this site, on many sites especially the larger much older ones your ignored, mistreated or taken as granted unless your a staff member or been there since day one of the site.

Thats something I didn't like, who would so when I started this site up 2 years ago it was my aim to make sure everyone no matter where they came from, their nationality, their beliefs, their sexuality etc that they would be accepted and welcomed here. I think I have done a pretty reasonable job.

Can I ask a slightly off-topic question?

Do you 'make' the backgrounds yourself? (In Photoshop or something similar) or just do a lot of internet searches?

Because they look awesome, and spiffy space backgrounds like the ones you're using are kinda hard to come by... At least it seems that way to me... :)

Feel free to ask away if you got a question.

Yes I do make my own background and they are all done in Photoshop. I've pretty much got making basic star maps down to an art and am now expanding into the more elaborate background with nebulas and more complex star patterns which you have seen in my last few scenes. (The planets are still just 3d models in the scene.)

Basically a few months back I came across a wonderful tutorial that expands how to make more detailed and exciting backgrounds and I have been expanding off what I have learned from it.

If you want I can pm you the link if I can dig it up from my bookmarks/favorites.

I just have to say :Y :Y :Y .
How did you get started doing these ships?

I Was wondering if that gallery was set up yet or if there are other galleries of other work you have done.

Well I start by making the basic shape of the model and once I'm happy with the way it looks I start at one end and start adding detail. Basically I start simple and build up from that to make the final high polygon model.

As for the gallery here, that will be setup in the next few weeks but if you want I can PM you a link to my main art gallery.

Thank you and it may be a bit of await till I get my Tempest done. Once it's done I think I'll do a fleet scene showing off all my Tau'ri ships.

Right now my Tempest is my pride and joy since it's the calumniation of all I learned while making my other SG ships but I guess it is a fairly common name. :)

Ok I thought it was only based on linking them on the main forum where it was viewable by everyone.

Also is linking to tutorials also counting as advertising?

Tutorials are fine, one of the staff will check them out to see that the site doesn't conflict with our rules though.

I will see about getting that gallery set up either today or tomorrow, the site is a little sluggish for me at the moment so it won't be happening just yet.

Well I need a break from the endless detailing of my Tempest so I started an original Babylon 5 EA ship. (A friend of mine has been asking me to do this for months. lol ).

The ship will be set around 2275-2280 as a replacement for the aging Hyperion class light cruiser and will incorporate many technologies the EA has gained from being a member of the ISA.

(Stats subject to change.)

Class: (not yet named)
Type: Light Cruiser
Length: 800 meters
Crew: 250
Fighters: 8
Reactor / Power Plant: 3 Advanced Fusion Reactors.
Weapons: 2x Heavy fusion beam / pulse cannon combos, 1x heavy Plasma Cannon (surface bombardment), 6x light fusion beam cannons, 16x Energy pulse interceptors.
Defenses: 6-8 meters of polycrystalline hull armor, gravimetric defensive field.

Note: This is still a very early WIP
Only about 2 hours of work in and about 5-7% done modeling
