Oh I plan too. In fact within the next couple of weeks not only will I be re-releasing the fixed versions of the Columbia, Mercury and Solaria class Battlestars but I will also be releasing the ships I am working on now. I only need to hardpoint the Titan and Valkyrie and it's variants and then I have all the current BSG complete and just need to ready them for release (build buttons, HP maps, wireframes etc).

As for the wireframes Chile, might I suggest doing what I do and just use a buildbutton for the fireframe. I make mine 96x96 pixels then add in the entry the following:

Code:
shipnamew1 0 0 96 96
shipnamew2 0 0 96 96
shipnamew3 0 0 96 96
shipnamew4 0 0 96 96
shipnamew5 0 0 96 96

I find it easier and if someone wants a correct working wireframe, they are free to make one using Fahres tutorial he released sometime ago.

Just a suggestion and an option to consider.

WARNING: Image Heavy Post

Double post, a big double post, but has to be worth it just look below to find out.

Here I have done a bit of work today and over the past few days and wanted to show you all what I've done since no one has asked.

First off I have fixed the material settings on the Mercury, Solaria and Columbia class Battlestars.

Now the good stuff, below are the new vessels. First up the Colonial Olympia class Jumpstar. A small vessel only 250 meters long, she can only carry a maximum of two Raptors and is utilised for scouting missions primarily where a Raptor is ill equipped. Secondary mission profiles include escort duties, supply runs for important cargo and lastly anti-fighter screening duties.

Next up on the list is the Defender class Strikestar. This vessel is really more a pocket Battlestar than a Strikestar, she can hold up to 12 Vipers and Two Raptors, this limit can change depending how many of each are on board. This class can even land on a planetary surface, to deploy Marines and ground assault vessels or to recover personal and equipment for evacuation missions.

Following the Defender but started and completed before is the Cygnus class Gunstar. A capital ship combat vessel, like the Jumpstar, the Cygnus carries a small compliment of support vessels which only consist of Raptors for scouting ahead and for ship to ship transport of officers. The Cygnus, while rather old is still a essential part of the Colonial fleet and hails from the Cylon war era.

Aye, beauties certainly worthy of much praise, am looking forward taking my job as the official MSFC photographer of these babies. Thanks a bunch mate.

Oh, and a follow up question if I may. Any plans on the Viper and Raptor models soon?

Thanks Jet, some like the Cygnus took me over 30 hours to do. So I really hope the community likes.

Raptors are a certain, Vipers not too sure yet I'll say a probably or a might with those.

From the pics you've shown us, these are going to be very nice indeed. I am especially looking forward to the smaller ships. I've always thought both of the BSG series did not do enough of those. It has been explained the "BSG" in the designations is supposed to stand for "BattleStar Group", a task force grouping of one or two battlestars with several smaller ships in support. If there is anything you'd like to use in the Pegasus releases, A2PP X, or the Solaria package I sent you, to complete or fill out your Colonial Fleet, please do so with my encouragement.

Thank you Thunderfoot, I have been considering doing a Colonial race like you are, but not sure yet. I think I'll just keep releasing the models for a while and see where it goes. But I can say one thing, if I do eventually end up doing something with the ships and models I am releasing, I'll be sure to include some of your work as your coding especially the physics is top notch.

That last post was done last night close to Midnight for me, so I forgot to add that Jetfreak has agreed to become my official photographer, so he will be doing the shots for the download files now. :excited:

Oh and I made a new logo for the project "PRP" that is now going to be on all in-game shots, pretty nifty huh? :)

The Titan and Valkyrie are no doubt going to get their hardpointing treatment today then I plan on finishing the Raptor I started a while back. I am going to see if I can get her down even more by re-doing the engines.

Is there any chance of seeing some Colonial stations to go with all the new ships we'll be getting? A shipyard or outpost where the ships can be built from?

I want to do them, I already have Rangar (the model) and some designs thought up, the only thing holding me back is textures to match the ship textures I already have. That's why I am asking for anyone who can make textures to please help me here.

If I can get a texture artist then I would and will release some stations such as a outpost, orbital defence stations, shipyards etc.

Lets just hope someone is willing to help. :)

Hello:
I don't think I can offer the stations I am making based on the Scorpion Fleetyards due to the fact that they may be part of BSA. But you can get the designs from there, at least for 3 shipyards and then the whole complex.
Texture making is kinda time-consuming and hard at times, but Achilles' tutorial in a2files is a must, and that allowed me to make my own textures.
Keep it up!.

Excellent designs Majestic, the new stars really begin to form a well rounded fleet along with the main capital ships.

I love the Gunstar's design!!! Gunstars, ah just had a Last Starfighter flshback for a moment there

One question though. It might be the ambient lighting or perhaps I don't recall correctly but are your Colonial ships kind of green tinted? I think they seem kinda greenish somehow. Aren't the ships supposed to be more grayish and metallic colored in nature? Just wondering.

They look fantastic!

Thanks Chile, however I've never been able to make textures. I even looked through that tutorial a while back. With everything else going on I simply can't commit the time to work through it, if I did nothing would get released for like 12 months.

So I just hope someone will be able to help me out in that fashion. I can model the stations no problems, I can even apply the textures no problems but making the textures... I'm outta luck at last until everything calms down and I don't see that happening for a couple of years. 2009 has been the year of hell for me and my family.

The greenish feel is due to the lighting on the map, it's Thunderfoot's map designed to make it look like Dawn. The textures are grey, no doubt about it, next time I take some shots I will use a different map to show you the ships in different lighting. Or I'll just hand them to Jet and he can work his magic instead.

Hmm, if making textures in the only problem standing in the way of making stations, perhaps there is a way to modify the ship textures you already have to work as station textures? Maybe thicken the armour plating, remove the colonial symbol & raptor launch tubes and then darken them to make them look like thick bulkheads rather than ship hulls. Just an idea but it may be worth a try.

It's an option I might consider attempting using the Pegasus textures at some point down the road hopefully not too far away. How successful I am well only time will tell. Rangar will be my guinea pig.

Thanks for the suggestion. :)

It looks like my volunteer job might become a paid job, and as such I won't have as much time to work on this as I used to. I will find out possibly tomorrow about this, which is good news financially for Katala and I.

Anyway I have started to re-vamp the Solaria, not just material settings either. I am partially re-texturing her, mainly her head. I am also making two versions, the Battlestar Solaria hero version, with a registry that I have already done and a standard fleet version.

I should have pictures up sometime this weekend at the latest. :)

Hello:
I am sorry to hear that 2009 has been an awful year, let's hope that what remains of his year will be better and next year a great year for you.
As for BSG ships, I was tempted to hijack your topic, but I'll first try to get some better pics of my ships and make a topic, doing the same for the BSA forums too.
Keep it up with your modding, and remember to work at your own pace, not forcing yourself .

Thanks Chile, feel free to start your own BSG Model thread here, this is the general PRP thread and doesn't only consist of BSG content but other shows like Babylon 5 etc.

Also to let everyone know that you are allowed to use the attachment feature, everyone one has unlimited space for attachments.

Now the Solaria, it's going to take more time than originally thought. I am doing a total revamp on the model including some modelling. Once that is done I plan to release her as it's only the model that is to be changed, not the hardpoints, or anything else. So a v1.1 is very possible within a week unless work picks up sooner than I think. :)

Hello:
And that sounds like good news. Right now i'm kinda busy, so maybe in the next few days I may be able to do some modding too. We'll just have to keep up then:D.
About a possible location for a topic, maybe here is not the best place since it is for your mod. But I may find a place :naughty:. Thanks for the room for my stuff too.

I am really looking forward to your work Chile, I have heard a lot of good things about it.

Okay a little something I am working on for the v1.1 and all future BSG "Battlestar" ship releases.

attachment.php

*Notice the ship on the left is different to the one on the right*

The Mercury is going to have three of these variations, the Valkyrie will have three, the Solaria at least one or two and the Columbia (which is going to be the hardest) will have at least four.

Hello:
I found extra space in the map editor, in the "miscellaneous menu" (sp?), there is plenty of space there :D . I hope that can help everybody.
About future releases, well, I can see your hero ship only a couple of jumps away from the download section Majestic, Hero ships are always hard to find:naughty:.
I hope my work will be what you expect it to be, I'm sorry with my delays, but I am sure I'll have the time very soon, at least to show some of the things I have done.

So far I am planning the following heroes for each ship:

Mercury:
  • Endeavour
  • Pegasus
  • Ethernal

Solaria:
  • Solaria
  • ?
  • ?

Columbia:
  • Galactica
  • Prometheus
  • Pacifica

Valkyrie:
  • Valkyrie
  • Vahalla
  • Aegir

It's all cool Chile, time is a major factor when it comes to modding, some of us have more time than others and sometimes we have more time and one point than we do the next. I look forward to seeing what you show off when the time comes.

As for the releases, the Cygnus, Olympia and Solaria v1.1 will be the next to be released. The others will come a little later.

I have a question...

For the Columbia class I asume you are leaving the Columbia off the list as it was destroyed in the first cylon war corect?

Also some names I feel would be good for battlestars in case you need some more are:

Chimera
Hephaestus

Wish I could think of some more but my brain is completely burned out from work today and those were the two that poped in my head.

Do you mean Eternal or Ethereal, maybe? I've never heard of the term 'ethernal' before.

Also, if you're looking for recommendations for the Solaria class, I'd suggest the Selena and maybe Centaurus. Sun, moon and nearest star. ;)

:D

Thanks, it's Eternal, my mistake. Spelling and grammar isn't my strong point. :lol2:

You're looking for naming suggestions for the Colombia class and Solaria class? I would suggest leaving the obvious Graeco-Roman references alone. Why? Because they are too familiar and have been done to the point of boredom. Norse names may be new to most people. There are a few which are not as widely known as people think. Another oft overlooked source of names from mythological backgrounds are ancient Egyptian and Middle Eastern tales. I use Gilgamesh from this source. He is a kind of combination of Heracles and Arthur. It is not a name which is all that familiar to Western society and culture. Another would be Ptah. I am unsure on the pronunciation, but this is the Egyptian god who made everything else. Including the other gods. There are also the gods and heroes of the tales told by the Aztec, Incas, and Mayans. One of my Solaria class is named Quetzacouatl, the feathered flying serpent god of all three of these cultures. Lastly, but by no means least the huge number of deities, spirits and other things found in ancient Chinese myths and legends.

Oh all right, I'll just do the same thing here I did over in FahreS' thread, lol.

Mjolnir
Spartan
Cortana
Arbiter
(been playing a lot of HALO online lately, so these are obvious. lol)

The Egyptians

Amon Ra
Horus
Osirus
Seti

Names of some Chinese dragon types

Men Shen
Sha Yu
Lao Hu
Yu Lang
Lung Wang - see Note
Note:transliteration = "Celestial Dragon". Entirely appropriate for a Battlestar, lol.

Random thoughts which popped up as I was writing this post

Beowulf
Grendel
(I am surprised by how many people are not familiar with this wonderful epic poem which is easily the equal of the Illiad or the Odyssey)

Raven
Coyote
( Sorry, the American Indian reference wrote itself before i could stop it)

Arioch
Stormbringer
Elric
(Thank you, Michael Moorcock)

Hyboria
Sonja
Crom
(And you as well, Robert E. Howard)

This is all I have right now. I am quite sure this list will spur others to contribute. Actually, I am hoping this is the case. I really do not want to be known as "Da Name Guy" around here.

There is no reason there couldn't be another Columbia. They simply had to build another ship and name her Columbia, this could be done at any time after the last one was destroyed so it could be any class of BS.
