Well this morning I took a go at lowering the turret on the Bolitho and I got it down to 482, basically it was a total re-build and I can't see it get really any lower than that. This means the Bolitho is now 2318, better than what I had but I was hoping for around 1600 at max due to it being a corvette.

With this result I am thinking of just throwing the turrets away completely and having it without turrets, as 2300 poly's is way to much for a ship that is supposed to be massed produced almost like you would a Viper.

I might take you up on that offer. I'll have to see if I can shave off any unwanted poly's from the model itself. However I very much doubt I can as I always build and remove hidden poly's as I progress through a model.

Hmm, well then either LODs or going without turrets altogether may be your best choice, you could even do both; release a version with several LODs and a version with the turrets.

True. What about making the turrets part of the LODs?

Well yea thats part of it. You keep them for the really close stuff and remove them for the far out ones.

But then the thing would fire out of nowhere... Why not just make them blocky or something that reduces teh polys? :confused: You could still keep them hi-poly for the LOD 1 and 2...

Please excuse what may be a silly question... but whats a LOD? I've seen the term banded about a couple of times but I'm unsure what it actually is.

And as for the topic at hand, I agree, a bit small to just drop the turrets, they're a key design feature. At the very least you could release two versions, one with (for those that can handle larger poly meshes) and one without.

The amount of detail an lod requires is dependent on what you can see at that distance. If you couldn't see the turrets anyway then that lod doesn't need them while closer ones will.

LODs stand for Levels Of Detail. They are different meshes and texture sizes that the game can switch between as the object moves closer or further away from the camera. They vastly improve the resource management of the game and can alow a 10k poly model to have the same impact as a 1k poly model.

I am alittle courious if any of the StarGate units mentioned that were never finished are also going to be released as completed game ready material for this project?

(I hope its alright to ask that.)

Sorry, I never did finish any of the Stargate models and probably never will, just for the fact Stargate doesn't appeal to me as much as some other sci-fi genres when it comes to modding and making models for.

But it was of course okay to ask. :thumbsup:

Ok, I'm at least glad that I asked you. :D

I just found one mod on Armada2files that I didn't download before, but it is the same thing as the Aurora Class that I already downloaded, the fact it was called a Dreadnought didn't trick me, but the pictures did so I never downloaded it before. I'm hoping that the weapons entitled "Durando Cannons" aren't the Drone Weapons, the ship's ODF had been missing the Drone Weapons but had coding saying:

Code:
// Drone Weapon
weapon7 = ""
weaponHardpoints7 = "hp05"

// Drone Weapon
weapon8 = ""
weaponHardpoints8 = "hp06"

As you can see the weapons weren't listed to but a spot was provided so I guess they are meant to be there because wouldn't that cause a crash?

I want to make this Dreadnought bigger than the Aurora Class, maybe half the size of the Hiveship from Armada2files which SOD scale size is 10. How big would be to big for this Ancients Dreadnought?

Hey there, I still haven't done anything with them, however if you want a copy of what I have (in unconverted form) I would be happy to send them to you. There are models with textures applied just not hardpointed on placed in-game.

That would be great majestic. The only thing is I don't use milkshape so we would need to figure out a neutral format (3ds maybe)?

Hello:
Well, that is good and bad. Good that the models are there, and bad that they are not ready. But I think the wait will be worthy :thumbsup:.

I just want to see some more PK designs because I only have the canon ships and I cannot really find much about fan-designed ships. It is way more easier for BSG.

Thought this might be the best place to post this.

Something I have been meaning to do for quite sometime, not my best work but I wanted to give it a better texture for release. I know it's a bit bland, but I feel I have spent enough time on this one, I have other fish to fry and want to get a start on them. I may one day come back and re-do this one but for the foreseeable future I don't see that happening. This will probably be the only ship from the series I will release.

I hope you like it.

Hello:
I agree, it is a nice version of the ship, nice point to mention is that it has almost the same colors than my version of it, hehehe, I should release it eventually too.

I am very glad you are working on these models, specially because you knew how curious I am to see your Farscape models.

Keep it up!

Thank you, actually I had forgotten about this one. I'll have to make sure I include it in the batch of files I plan to hardpoint and send off to Jetfreak in the next couple of weeks.

I send all my work to Jetfreak, he does all the screenshots for me, something that I simply don't have his skill to do myself. So it works both ways for us as we help each other, he also gets exclusive access to the models before anyone else and sometimes even get the MS3D files to help with hardpoint locations and such.

Indeed he does, you should check out his DeviantArt profile sometime, a great collection of images, same with Dan as well.

Good news everyone! Yesterday with Kat's help we put my 2TB drive into her computer, copied one of my restore points from August across the network, restored windows to the August configuration and put my 2TB drive into my computer. Wholla back in action, computer is no longer slow. We tested the RAM last week by using Kat's Ram in my computer for a day and it was still playing up so we nailed it to either a virus or windows itself being difficult/corrupt.

Brought in the expert (Kat) and we squashed it. :lol2:

Unfortunately I'm still having issues. Had to do a complete re-install as if it's a virus then it's still in my main drive after numerous full scans, but Kat and I think it could be a Windows corruption issue and so today I have spent re-building my install. A lot of programs no longer work which means Kat and I had to look into replacement ones, thankfully the main ones are up and running now. I am only installing what I use regularly atm, Illustrator is the only one left that is causing me issues.

I'm positive that by the end of the week all will be good again and I can bet back to my modelling and texturing. Along with a release or two.
