• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

TF's site is excellent, I myself use that resource now and then.
For determining in-game sizes and scaleSOD factors, I recommend my scale calculator included in v2 of The Modder's Toolbox. In combination with Achilles' Measurement Stick, you can achieve very exact scaling with it.

The trouble is, Chiletrek, ScaleSOD isn't a linear multiplier. You'd be best off working from something with a scaleSod of 1.00.

Hello:
Achillies gave me this and I use it to do all my scalling. It is 1500 m long at 1:1 in game meters. Mayby it will help.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3697428/measurestick.zip

Thanks for the link, I did not have this and now I will take a look at it. Maybe, if I add it to the game, it would be the second more strange thing to see after the obelisk from "2001: A Space Odyssey" :lol2: .

STARSHIP DIMENSIONS This is a website devoted exclusively to how big or small science fiction space ships are. I locate the ship in question on this site or the closest one available to it and use half the length listed to ensure all my ships are to scale with one another. I also use Achillies' Measurestick in conjunction with this.

Right now I use the stock Sovereign class scaled to 1.4 as a reference, because it measures 685 meters lenght, so there are no many decimal numbers at all to affect calculations. I just hope I am doing it ok with that ship. So you all bet I am kinda scared to use the stick and having tp re-scale everything again.

TF's site is excellent, I myself use that resource now and then.

I have used this page aswell, it is very cool :D .

Yes, that is why I want to have all my models scaled using the same reference so I can remain with the scaleSod 1.0. That is also useful if someday I want a model to be animated, because we all know that the scaleSod can ruin an animation  .

if your animation is a simple rotation and is centered in the scene you can scale it all you want, apart from that yeah, the scaleSod issue is a pain.

The scaleSod command does work with the "stick", just requires some hazy math. I generally just use it make sure my scaling isn't ridiculous.

Who knew that darn stick would cause such headaches.

Hello:
Well, the stick sure helps as I already saw many people saying it is good, so don't worry Achilles :) .

And you are right about animations, because I have a model that has centered animation and there is no problem for the scaleSod... any other gos kaboom.

And a little news, the Species 8472 Terrasphre is on it's way! I already sent it to Armada2files and now to send it here too.

Fantastic work Chile, really glad to see this available for download. Can we expect more 8472 stuff next or is it back to the BSG mods?

Either way I can't wait to download

Hello:
The Terraspsher is up Chile. :)

MSFC - Terrasphere

And thanks majestic, that sure was quick :excited:.

Well, I have completed the redo of all the stock 8472 units and the Terrasphere that is canon. I do have some fan-designed 8472 ships ingame and some more are planned but they are not ready for release yet. Between those bioships I made I can say I made my own versions of the Magma, the Queen Behemoth and some others :D . I might still try to contact the authors, so they know I made a complete redo of the designs, but every polygon and texture are my own, so it might be for courtesy.

But for now, I need to do a homeword :x , but then I will do some more BSG stuff, I must complete another rebuild and then to retouch some other models (small things, nothing big). The ship been rebuild is the Cygnus MKII.

That all sounds great Chile, and yeah if you've created the model(s) and textures from scratch yourself then I think you just need to credit whoever came up with the original design in the readme (unless the designer has said otherwise). Hopefully they won't have a problem with you creating renditions of their designs anyway (why would they really lol?)

Any idea what BSG stuff you'll be releasing first? I recall you saying somewhere that the Valkyrie was almost done/ready? ;)

Hello:
Well, I don't think there would be a problem releasing my rendition of their designs, specially since I made my own textures so they'll fit with the other 8472 bioships I have already made :D .

As for BSG releases, I still think Score will kill me, but what I really need to do before anything are some model and texture retouches as I have some that I'd like to release (not near something like a total rebuild, like I did with Valkyrie).

What I liked since I finished the Valkyrie is that I was able to redraw the little Colonial Seals in the runways so I will add them to all my ships.

I am testing some wireframe designs, those are what delay me as I try them to look good so any suggestions would help me.

I also now know how to make Build-buttons with the glows Majestic once suggested me (stock-like buttons will be included too).

All I ask is a little bit of patience, I hope that is ok for all of you people :) .

Yeah of course it is mate, we all know that the quality of your work will make it worth the wait. As for Score/BSA, I think that topic has been talked about enough as it is, we've all said our piece, the rest is your decision whether to continue believeing he's coming back or not, but let's not start on that discussion again eh?

As for wireframe designs, there's 3 or 4 ways I know of, which ones have you tried out so far? Also depends on what effect you're trying to achieve ingame.

Patience isn't a problem, looking forward to whatever you do next :)

Hello:
It is not my intention to restart that discussion, it was just a comment meaning that I will bring my Resurrection Ship closer to me... just in case :lol2:.

As for wireframes, I have been testing something like the 8472 wireframes I have been doing, but I followed a wireframe-like system display shown in the miniserie, so I have a top view of the ship with green dots everywhere, so when a system gets damaged or disabled, those specific dots will change their color. How does that sound?

Sounds really cool, nice idea to go with the same sort of display we saw in the series, and it's an approach I don't think I've seen before

No, he won't. Because I'm covering you. If he tries something over you, I'll exercise the Nuclear Option and burn him down to a cinder. Further, I'll wager 500 kilos of gold pressed latinum right now I'm not the only person in this Community who feels this way about you and how shabbily you've been treated. Already spoke on this and not looking to reopen it here, either.

We've waited this long, I do not think a little longer will matter

As for designs, all I do is credted the original designer, if you're making the model and textures that's all that is required. You can contact them and let them know but in the grand scheme of things they don't have any hold over the design, unless it's an original universe design and have copyrighted them.

However adding a link to their website (if they have one in the readme) is also a nice touch. Asking is also nice touch, just a bit of respect to the original author.

Yes no need to go into the whole BSA and Score thing. We all know where we all stand and now it's up to Chiletrek to decide what he wants to do.

I did some experiments, I just forgot and left the dots white  I guess I can experiment some more but I'd like your and everybody's opinion, because I'd like to release something that you'll all like :) .

Pics posted as attachments! the ship is the Battlestar Talos (designed by Iosys).

Well, it will be better to start counting my Baseship's nukes again, just in case you took some warheads :lol2:.

I don't think I have been treated shabbily, the community has been very nice with me and it makes me very happy that you all like the things I do :) .

I try to contact the authors, but since all polygons and textures are mine and not their work, then it is more of a courtesy... and in one mod I placed the link to a guy's webpage, I think it was when I first released an 8472 sensor array (loooong ago).

But yes, it seems we both, or we all, think the same way when it comes to credits, because I do know we must be very careful with that.

Just got done placing the Terrasphere into my install. What an amazing job you did on this! If I adjust the lighting correctly it looks exactly like the one from VOY. Thank you for sharing this with the rest of us.

Hello:
It sounds great, I am so glad you like it :excited:, I hope everybody likes it. Now we just need to be creative in it's role I guess, anyways I left the menu available to build any ships from it .

Wasn't the Terrasphers's primary purpose to assist 8472 in gaining a better understanding and some measure of control over our universe? Specifically the Federation? Why not allow it to use some special weapons not normally available to Species 8472? Such as the Romulan Spy and the Computer Override? I am sure it would be fairly easy to write up 8472 specific versions of these.

And for those of you who may still be undecided if this ship is for you...
attachmentid 4417

but back to topic the Borg Crewleech AssimBeam would be a good candidate as well given that 8472 do some time ingrate captured enemys in to ther Bio ship reface Harry Kim VOY Scorpion

The wireframe in those pics looks really good! I'd say it's about as close a match to the one in the show as we're gonna get. I'd be more than happy with that format if you released it :)

I guess I can experiment some more but I'd like your and everybody's opinion, because I'd like to release something that you'll all like :)

Chile I thinks it's pretty much guaranteed that if you release it, we'll love it :)

I hope you didn't take that bet, because TF's right. And I'm quoting what he said for truth.

Hello:
This might e my biggest multi-quiting so far  .

I am sure it would be fairly easy to write up 8472 specific versions of these.

I think it's best role is to gain intelligence and understanding. I know that for what the 8472-Archer said. The Romulan Spy can work as we have seen 8472 getting inside the USS Voyager undetected  .

Look Chile my friend I think Thunderfoot is starting a war between us see :lol2:

but back to topic the Borg Crewleech AssimBeam would be a good candidate as well given that 8472 do some time ingrate captured enemys in to ther Bio ship reface Harry Kim VOY Scorpion

Captain Janeway was very kind to share with us some of the power of coffee (and modified nanoprobes too) so we won't fire against you if you don't fire :D . I guess.....

The wireframe in those pics looks really good! I'd say it's about as close a match to the one in the show as we're gonna get. I'd be more than happy with that format if you released it :)

Thank you very much! I will give it green dots instead of white so it is closer to what we saw in BSG then :).

I hope you didn't take that bet, because TF's right. And I'm quoting what he said for truth.

Agreed, we're all with you on this Chile, don't worry :)

So say we all

Thank you very much people :excited:. Anyways, expect some releases (relatively) soon.

Hello:
Here is another rebuild I am making (oh noes!), the Colonial Cygnus class Gunstar MK2. MK2 because the hull colors, details and guns are a match of more modern Colonial ships (Mercuries, Valkyries), while the MK1 were the first ships built to help the original Battlestars during and after the First Cylon War.

As of now, I think the only thing I have tha is still originally from Coxxon is the turret mesh as even the big Colonial Seal has been fully repainted in MSPaint at some point (I think). So EO convinced me to make my own turrets for my Colonial ships as I already made turrets for the Berzerk and Valkyrie classes. Custom textures will be made too and it would make things easier if a specific ship requieres a differently coloured turret, so it would be easier to recolour if needed.

Well, here is a pic of the Cygnus texture WIP so far. The mesh was fully redone, all shapes and proportions are fully accurate now and Bow Guns are detailed, but the ship is still quite low in polies.

I hope you'll all like it.

I really like this one! I always loved the Cygnus design and you've taken it in a really cool direction here

Will this be a stand-alone release once it's finished or are you making a larger scale mod?

Can't wait to see more :)

The best part is that both Backstep (the original designer) and Ice-Dragon (who made the high-poly MK2) agreed that I should make this low-poly version for games... I will still send them pics of the finished model :D.

And the BSG ships will be stand-alone releases :).
