• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Hello:

Since some time I've been thinking to start a topic here, so here I am and I will begin showing some of the models I am making for the game... and maybe one of other things I have done too.

But due to university things, modding will be slow, but I think I will have things to show for now ;).

Here are some pics of a Battlestar I made based on one of Atolm's designs. I name it the Chrysaor Class Battlestar... and I think it could be the Colonial equivalent for the special type of ship.

I hope you'll like the ship, it has turned into one of the ships I like the most. It is modern like the Pegasus but smaller, a bit larger than Galactica (and that is due to the tail section). Atolm said the ship has an advanced sensor suite.

Beautiful work Chiletrek. Atolm always does some very interesting designs, and you've done a beautiful low poly model of it.

Hello:
And thank you Majestic. That ship does not have the teeth of the Mercury Class, but it can still defend itself very well (and the Pegasus-like forward guns help too  ).

Another design that is also great is the Talos class, that one was designed by Iosys. I should post pics of that ship too... soon, I hope.

Yeah I'm familiar with the Talos, never a great fan of the design personally but that's just me. I am sure your model will do the original justice.

Bueno, mi compadre! Well done! It is my fondest wish all of your incredible BSG ships will be available for release sometime in the near future. Especially the ones you've shown me. Your models and textures are far too good to not be shared with the Community at large. Long past time people got to see, and use, some of the amazing things you've done over the years.

Indeed with some tweaking of the textures they would easily fit in with the PRP BSG models. :)

Hello:
@Thundertfoot: Thank you very much for your comments!. I will try to find a way so I can release some BSG stuff. And I am also very happy that you like my models so much, it really makes me want to do even better when modding and modelling.

@Majestic: Those pics, and most of my pics for models in MS3d, will have the default settings in the material (yes, in singular as I always make 1 texture per ship :D ) because with the default settings you can see more details in the model, but then I change the settings and add the proper preffix & suffix for the material's name before exporting :) . So I can almost bet that they will fit well with your ships.

Like this:

ChrysaorValkyrie13a.jpg

Hmm.... jpg always kill quality on pics :( . The models look better than they do in the pics, but oh well...

Again, thank you for your comments.

Hello:

And thank you Adm_Z. But the truth is that the Chrysaor is about the size of the Galactica, so imagine a Valkyrie next to a Mercury Class... or maybe next to the Prometheus (from the famous Battlestar Prometheus fanfic):lol2:.

Valkyrie is the smallest Battlestar design I think, but those ships can do a lot of missions, they are very versatile and they still carry quite a punch, and since they strike in numbers, that adds to their usefulness too :D .

I really, really, really would love to see that Valkyrie available somewhere, anywhere for D/L. It is nearly a perfect match for the series!

Indeed the Valkyrie of Chiletrek's is a lot more accurate to mine.

Hello:

They do, it's why I use PNG. They keep the quality and aren't all that much bigger in size to a JPG.

Being quite fond of all these designs, I must say you've done a fantastic job with them. Being quite fond of everything you produce, and knowing you've made these designs playable in-game, I must politely reduce myself to begging for a release as immediately as possible. I'll just be off whimpering in the corner making puppy-dog eyes until then, k? Anyone who wants to join me is always welcome.

Closest thing I can find in a smiley is this guy: :cry2:

Loving the design man, with those Valkyries escorting her, she looks to be quite the heavy hitter, you've done a great rendition of the design.

I second the motion. The floor will now vote. All those in favor, say "AYE!" All those opposed? *Pulls out large calibre phaser rifle and very pointedly adjusts the setting to 'Completely Obliterate' while staring harshly across the assembled body* Thought so.

Chile, please release your BSG work! ALL OF IT! I cannot do more than ask. I understand your reasons for deferring. The people you made that promise to have no intention of ever doing anything but holding your wonderful work hostage. Their own models and textures will never ever begin to compare to yours and they've no intentions of doing anything but keeping your ships and stations from the Community for no reason other than they can do so. This is an excellent example of Community politics at its very worst. I've not seen or heard anything out of the BSA team for nearly a year and half now. Except for something vague about Stargate. If they were serious about releasing something, they've had more than enough time to do so.

So say we all!

Hello:

It is something difficult indeed, for the reasons you have mentioned Thunderfoot, but I guess I just announce that I am releasing one Battlestar, maybe as an appetizer and see what happens. Maybe Score will object, that is for sure, but you are right when you said that if I don't do that, then the community will never receive anything. Maybe with a release, Score could do something at all.

Thanks to Freyr, I made my own weapon sprite file for BSG weapons (at least the basic ones) so that should be enough, but don't be expecting Vipers or Raptors.

Right now I am testing the attachment feature, the pics will show an ingame image for the Chrysaor and for the Talos... I was thinking in releasing the Talos since Iosys told me that he'd like to see it in the game. What do you all think?

I would say release it. You can email it to me personally and I'll make a fast attempt to get it all up on MSFC very fast. That also includes your other work such as Species 8472 if you decide you want to host here as well. (Unless you want me to release the entire lot all working together as one here, since I installed it all for my personal mod).

But I have to agree with Thunderfoot here, BSA I can't see ever seeing the light of day. At least I personally have released a lot of what the Parallels Team has done to the community. Just because a mod isn't still being worked on doesn't mean the community can't benefit from what has been done. I also plan to get the Peacekeeper stuff out at some point. I just don't know when, maybe Dan will get it done and if he doesn't I or Syf certainly will.

So I would say since it's your work, you made it, the mod BSA isn't being worked on anymore *haven't seen anything in ages* I say you should release your stuff. Otherwise it was a total waste of your time. As we mod to improve the game and share, and I know you'll get nothing but positive feedback.

Hello:

Well I do hope you are not luring me into a trap :lol2:, I'm joking. I will see to make some packs as I have to do wireframes and buildbuttons before attempting any release.

As for ships from other universes, that will be easier for me, but since most universes make use of fighters, I haven't made releases as I usually first make the capital ships before (like the Rodger Young from SST or the PK Command Carrier) than any fighters.

Peacekeeper ships would be nice to release, as I also made the Flagship Variant from the PK Wars and I will make the canon variant of the Pantak Class (but it was shown only once)... I would love to see pics of Peacekeeper designs from you Majestic, as they would be very interesting to see as a race and I have no idea for stations.

As for Species8472, I would release a pack here, but I say that you all have some patience as I have something very big near completion for that race, the wait should be worthy (I hope).

Chile, it is very good news you are releasing something out of your BSG work. As to, ahem, 'Score objecting', let him. I think he'd be in for a rude surprise as to just how many people of this Community would be lined up to support you and your actions, should you choose to release everything. He has no right to to ask you to continue to abide by of an agreement which he himself no longer has any intentions of adhering to. I fully understand the concept of exclusivity. But does it really apply to a mod which will now probably not be released at all? Anywhere? This has become yet another Zero Hour. And that has been being worked on and promised since April, 2006. The month I joined this Community. I understand completely you gave your word. Its shows just how excellent a man you truly are you still honor a promise which you made in good faith with someone who has done what Score has done to you.

Hello:

Well, I'll see what can I done, right now I am working on addon Species 8472 bioships and my free time is not as much due to the things I have to do for the university, so I will require some days before I release the Talos. But it will have wireframe, buildbutton, and maybe other little surprises.

I hope that is ok ^^

And you are right Majestic, png format is nice! the pics are much better now.

I'll see what I can do about getting some images for PK ships, I may have a couple of old ones in my old Parallels Install.

I do love surprises and look forward to seeing any new 8472 stuff you release when the time is right.

Hello:

About Species8472, well, I am thinking in releasing a big pack with all the stock-redo stuff, so it should be more organized, but some things have been updated since my first release . And new things will be added.

Peacekeepers have very nice ships, I only wish that the people would be nicer though. But it could be worse, we'll see when I start the Scarran Dreadnought and use it to wreak havok ingame.

Majestic, can I ask an off-topic question? who is the "Invisible" member of this forum? Curiosity is getting the ebst of me in this one :).

Only Admins can be invisible. I keep forgetting to take my status off of that. I put it on after my accident last year and returned but Syf and Katala were doing all the Admin duties.

Perhaps after you and I finish our in progress projects we could combine our peacekeeper/farscape stuff together and make a mini-mod for the community out of it. Get a few other members here to help out with it as well, those whom have skills/specialities in other areas that we ourself don't have so much. :)

I agreed before, and I will agree again. I've seen so many mods that were "canceled by time". I haven't heard or seen anything from BSA for ages - and usually, I am quite well informed about projects I'm interested in. If the person responsible for BSA doesn't even reply to mails, I personally would treat the agreement as void.
Regardless of how you decide to deal with that, it is always great to see new material from you. I like what you've shown us here. And your work on Species 8472 is great, you've literally brought them back to life. Can't wait to see more of your work on them!

Just to add my own few cents to the pile that others have already put in here lol - I completely agree with what thunderfoot and all the others have said about releasing your work, BSA has been silent far too long to be considered 'active' anymore; Greathor vanished years ago, kel as well, and Score hasn't done anything with the mod in more than a year. At this point you are the only member of the team still working and it's not fair for the others to force you to keep your work to yourself on the slim chance they decide to show up again one day.

I can understand your reluctance to break your promise to Score, as someone who values his word above almost anything else I know how much it means to you, but at this point it's not worth keeping at the expense of the joy so many others could get from it, and the joy you'd get from releasing it.

I'm thrilled you plan to release some of your work (once you find the time of course, believe me I know how that goes lol). It all looks excellent and I'd say it's easily the highest quality and most accurate BSG material I've seen for any game. In fact I plan to join you; I have all the models Major Payne sent Score to use for BSA, including things like the Talos and the Cylon Worldstar, and I'll be getting those up and released soon like I did with my Lightstar.

I'm really looking forward to your BSG and Species 8472 work, and like thunderfoot says we're all here to support you if you should need it

Hello:
Adm_Z: As I said before, Freyr taught me how to do weapons and since I was so impressed with the weapons you have for your mod that I tried to emulate them. But the ones I have showed are my own .

Everybody: I really had no idea there are so many people waiting to see more of the things I have done, it makes me feel very happy, and I'll try not to dissapoint any of you.

As for a combined Farscape mod, I agree that we should wait for a bit, as I am busy doing other mods too, and that is taking all of my free time... but I already got all the designs I need to make a Colonial Full Race, and I have some designs to help me with the Cylons too; the Colony is beautiful so I am using a scaled-down version for a main base... if I use the original scale, the Colony will not fit in almost any maps :lol2:

As for ships from other universes, that will be easier for me, but since most universes make use of fighters, I haven't made releases as I usually first make the capital ships before (like the Rodger Young from SST or the PK Command Carrier) than any fighters.

I would humbly suggest (from my begging, prostrate position over in the corner) that perhaps you might release such cap-ships WITHOUT the fighters, then simply release the fighters if you want to, later. Then if you do, just include an updated capship ODF that incorporates whatever method of launching you choose to rely upon, and let the modders take it from there.

To speak generally (not just to Chiletrek here, but to all those of you sitting on good mod material), if the model is hardpointed and textured, bundle it up and SEND IT TO ME! I will put together a build button, wireframe, Admiral's Log pic, .ODF, and if you've got weapons with textures or sprites, I'll get 'em to work. I am offering my services (I think Jet does something similar) because I want new mod content SO BAD that I'm willing to become the infomercial dude of mod releases if that's what it takes to get new stuff available.

As long as that isn't an advertisement for SB34 or A2Files, whom aren't affiliates then I won't be sad. ;)

Billy Mays would be so very proud right now.

Oh I remember watching the episode he died in South Park a few months back one night on TV after Katala fell asleep, it even had Michael Jackson in it. While not a huge fan of it, I loved that episode.

I was under the impression SB34 was an affiliate of MSFC. Correct me if I'm wrong. But no, it's not an advertisement for either site, nor was it particularly intended as anything beyond a solicitation of services. I figure if I can't do it myself, might as well do what I can to help others and serve the community as best I can.

We probably shouldn't take anything away from Chiletrek's thread any longer on the subject, however.

:D
