• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Progress is still being made despite the lack of activity in this thread. Firstly there is a preview video for you all to download and have a look at. Check out the media thread in this section.

Onto the mod.

All Federation ships are completed, there are only a few campaign only ships that require hardpointing at this curent time.

Syf is now working on the Klingon and Romulan ships with the first ship the Klingon destroyer now complete and on my harddrive. All of the Klingon and Romulan ships posted before will no longer be in the mod, the textures will be reused but the actual models will be rebuilt to get better poly counts. Don't expect many ships in the mod to be over the 2000 poly count range.

Weapon textures have been collected and I am now awaiting the permission email reply from Rake.

Federation buildbuttons and wireframes are now complete. All ships (Klingon and Romulan) are expected to be completed in a month to a month and a half if nothing crops up to slow us down that will then leave only the stations will need to be done. So nearly all models in the mod will be completely new models not available in any other mod.

So while this is all happening balancing will be getting done.

Each race will have their own pros and cons when it comes to playing them.

The Federation are good for begineers and have an excellent sense of balance. They have the strongest shields and hulls seen. Their phasers and photon torpedoes can do a good amount of damage during a battle. Their bases are heavily fortified and not easy to get a fleet into.

The Klingons are excellent at attacking and their ships are loaded with disruptors and photon torpedeos. But the shields and hulls are considerability weaker than their Federation counterparts. Their ships are cheaper to produce and also quicker. They are also not the best for defense. If your a defensive player best to stear clear of these guys when picking a race to play.

The Romulans rely heavily on stealth and the cloaking device. Their ships are equipped with disruptors for prolong battles and plasma torpedeos for hit and run attacks. Plasma torpedeos can do a great deal of damage at close range, so Captain watch out for them. ;) They have extraordinary long range sensors, allowing them to detect enemy fleets from much further away than their Klingon or Federation foes. Their bases are fairly well fortified, use a good sized fleet to attack one of these.

The classified race that appears in the campaign has both strengths and weakness of both the Klingons and Romulans. So you better watch out for them in the campaign and here you thought the Borg were tough.

There has been some thought about making them playable in multiplayer/instant action. This has yet to be decided and may not be until closer to the mods release date.

Nice! Very well done!!

I suppose the physics files of the ships will be altered later on, too?

Oh yes, one of the last things to do. Stock physics are pretty poor don't you agree?

I am completing reworking the resource system. I am only keeping one of the 3 resources from the stock game, the other two are gone and being replaced with new ones. Also planets will no longer have resources, they will only be there for colonization and gravity fields.

So orbital processing stations will no longer be in the mod, instead orbital stations used as defense starbases/outposts will be in. They will be used to defend planets as I am planning on removing the planetary shields from the mod.

Hint: Start the planet assault when the orbital station is on the far side of the planet. ;)

The orbital stations will serve as long range senor stations as well as the enemy will most likey bypass your colonies to attact your main base. (Minbari war anyone *Looks at Intrepid* ;) ).

If anyone knows who to change the colour of the resource text please contact me via PM as I would like to change them for the mod.

Oops, changing the text color. I changed resource names through dynamic_localized_strings.h but I don't think the color change thing would be there, I think RTS cfg is your best bet for that.

I skimmed through it but couldn't find it. But found some other nice little neat features that I am currently changing. :)

Be very careful. Change the wrong thing and strange things happen.

Well, the Earth Alliance did such a tactic in the Dilgar War, too.. but that goes too far off-topic and would spoil AoE

Somewhere in the Parallels staff room I posted a possible way to change the colour of the letters in the middle GUI.

It isn't exactly what I am looking for. I will be using it of course (have a look in the screenshot), but I am after trying to find where to change the resource text.

Oh yes Syf and Myself have a few surprises in store for you guys and girls.

Think Fleet Ops is good? Well wait till Yesteryears, she will be the TMP version of that mod, except with better models, graphics and a fully playable campaign, among other things. ;)

TM, if your system can run Armada II, then you should have no worries.

This mod is not going to anything like FleetOps. We are not making changes that make this mod unfriendly to existing systems that can run a standard A2.

Hm, FleetOps was crashing two or more large fleets in a high-end environment together... this does not look like such gameplay.

If Maj get's the AI right, what I think he will, as he is already contracted for AoE, this is going to be superb! Finallly a TMP mod!

the most importatnt of any mod is the AI all the way

@syf: Yeha I can run A2 don't worry as well i cna run FleetOps but in the lower resolution and my Pc still in lagg i cna un mods like the BI and some "actuals" but they are some whit top highly textures and models for nearly only high-end Pc.
