• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Yesteryears Mod News/Updates

Last weekend I came up with an idea and started working on it.

Does any one have TMP era vibes?

I do.

So I decided to start to make a small mod set in the TMP era. Now this project will take a back seat to Parallels as Parallels is still the main mod in my priorites list and will continue to stay that way.

Now back to the TMP mod.

It will include 3 races.

1. The United Federation of Planets
2. The Klingon Empire
3. The Romulan Star Empire

I plan on the mod being set a few years after Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country, thus the Klingons and Federation are at peace, but there is a rogue Klingon house out there attacking the Federation as they see the peace as a bad idea. This house will have different texture ships.

After reading that you can tell I am planning a campaign. This is sort of a way to get to know how to edit campaigns for Parallels.

All I will say about the campaign at this time is that Durus wasn't the first Klingon to conspire with the Romulans.

Now some model screenshots. I know thats what you have all been waiting for. These will be included if the required permissions can be obtained.

There are more, but thats enough for now. I almost have the Romulans combats ships completed, they only require hardpointing. I am also thinking about adding glows to the models, never done that before so that is secondary on my to do list.

I also have a Constitution heavy cruiser, polly reduced to 2300 pollies. I am currently texturing her with another sfc3 models textures. Again permission has to be obtained before I can/will use them.

Due to the time era, the heavy ships (ie the Battleships) will be few and far between. You will have to mainly rely on your cruisers to win the day.

Also there won't be as many types of ships in the mod. I have removed the Assault and Special/Support ships from the mod. All ships will be stronger, not too sure about multi-targeting weapons yet either, again due to the time period.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome, but don't expect this to be done in a flash, it does take a back seat to Parallels, Federations and B5: Age of Expansion (When we start major work on it after Parallels). Also I have put my private mod (Clash of Empires) on hold as well.

Time for a little update:

Firstly I plan on having a campaign in this mod, you have three campaigns that replace the stock ones. So far it is planned in this order:

Federation -> Klingon -> Romulan.

The three camapigns tie in together with the Federation kicking it off as the victums, they just do such a good job at that don't they? :lol: The the Klingons do what Klingons do, use their guns and invade. Finally the Romulans and their cloak and dagger tactis finish off the storyline. Talking about the storyline it is set a few years after Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country, where the Federation and Klingons have been at peace for a few years. I won't mention much more on the campaign.

Now the mod. Elevatormusic has offered his assistance as GUI and weapon texture creator/modifier. So theres less work for me. :)

I am converting all the models from the Starfleet Command series, non stock of course, there are a few stock ones in there but they are the good ones. ;)

I have some new Klingon models done, just need retexturing and gaining the permissions which will be done over the next couple of days. I have kitbashed quite a few Klingon stations.

Stations now there is another topic. There will be not as many stations in the mod than in the stock game. The basics are still there like the Starbase, mining, trading sensor, shipyards etc. A few have been removed and a few merged together.

Here is the current list:

Thats the plan as it stands today. The research station has both ship upgrades and hull research in the one station. Thus she will have strong shields as you loose her, you go back to having only scouts and having to rebuild all your research.

There are only 4 combat ships namely:

Construction
Mining Freighter
Cargo
Colony

I have dropped the repair ship. :p

Combat ships, they are the most important aren't they? Well here is the list as it stands currently.

Scout/Corvette
Light Destroyer
Heavy Destroyer
Frigate
Light Cruiser
Medium Cruiser
Heavy Cruiser
Light Battleship
Heavy Battleship

Thats pretty much the order of strength as well. ;)

Like I said earlier Heavy Cruisers are the main ships in this mod, in a multiplayer game you may build only 6 battleships total during the entire length of the game. Thus they are powerful and also important to keep and really only use in important attacks.

There are a few reasons for this:

1. The stock game was really all about who could build the Battleships first
2. The Era didn't have many battleships, it was more about the cruisers.
3. The poly counts on the Battleships will be around 800-1000 pollies more than the cruisers.

Well thats it for the time being, comments welcome as well as suggestion on the mod, especially ideas on a name for the mod. I currently only have Yesteryears on the drawing board.

Parallels comes first in my priorities so I think a Colonial yard would be better for that model. ;)

Teasing... When I get the models ingame and make the new GUI's so may be a little while yet, as nearly all the models need either to be retextured, some models have 30 plus texture files or they need hardpoints.

Well here is an update, its a few days old though.

Update

The Federation cruisers are being worked on now. A close friend of mine and long time Armada modder/modeller is attempting to poly reduce the models I sent him. If he is unable to get them down to the poly sizes I requested he will be rebuilding them or poly reducing some of his own models are re-texturing them with textures I provided him with.

So now I am currently working on the Klingons, while keeping my eye open for a good Federation frigate. I am considering using the design from SFC1/2 but have yet to find a good model. I may end up kitbashing the Medium and Heavy cruisers to make the model. With the Klingons, I am looking for a good Bird of Prey model. I am unsure if I will be having 2 variants of it or just the one, so a model with it's wings down and up is what I am looking for. Also around the polly range of 1500 would be great. Again I will require the ms3d or 3ds file. I already have all the Klingon cruisers and battleships.

The majority of ship models in the mod will be in the ares of 1000-2000 pollies. There will be a few high poly models but most of them will be in the campaign only. The non-combatants will have lower poly counts as I am using a lot of stock SFC2 and 3 models.

Campaign
Now I have decided to keep the campaign under wraps, I don't want to spoil it for you guys and I do want to have some surprises in store. Everyone who has read this thread already know about the first Federation mission, but the rest of the campaign will not be disclosed.

The fleet listings have been updated. I looked on wikipedia for hull classifications and went from there. Below is a list of the fleet structure:

Heros
I have decided to spill the beans on the heros.

The Federation is going to have... Yes you guessed it the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-B. As far as the Captain, I am undecided weather to make up a new one or use the one seen in Generations. If the latter he will have a different sounding voice.

The Klingons. You will need to dig into your memory banks here. Recall Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country. Remember when Kirk and McCoy were on trial by the Klingons and were defended by a Klingon Colonel? He was played by Michael Dorn (also played Lieutenant Worf in TNG and DS9). His character was called Colonel Worf. It was never stated onscreen but it is believed by many fans that Colonel Worf was the father of Mogh, Lieutenant Worf's father. Well in this mod Colonel Worf is Lt Worf's grandfather and is now a General and has taken Changs previous position as Chief of Staff and Fleet Commander. This saves me having to firstly use my brain and come up with a completely new character as a hero. And secondary it allows me to use the Armada 1 worf sounds for ingame action.

The Romulans. To be 100% honest with you, I have nothing. Ideas and suggestions always welcome.

Weapons
I have already decided there will be a reduction in special weapons, of course there will still be some but they will be more realistic to Star Trek canon. Sorry Chain Reactor Pulsar fans and the alike. Ideas for new special weapons are wanted, I haven't really touched on this aspect of the mod yet.

Standard weapons. I plan on using new textures, I may be using stuff out of Freyr's upgrade project after I request and recieve permission. What I am currently looking for now is a good TMP Federation and Klingon photon torpedeo texture. If anyone could help me out it would be great.

Thats about if for the time being. More updates as they come

Topic split. Conquest wars stuff aded to its own thread in the PC games section.

Syf has delivered all the Federation cruisers for me so its all set there. I have just successfully after alot of trial and error and copy and pasting removed the registries from the Excelsior battleships.

All the cruisers Syf sent to me don't have registries so there is no need to edit them. :)

The Orca class scout I am using no longer has a registry and I will be making sure that neither does the Frigate or Destroyers when I kitbash/convert them.

Update:

I just hardpointed the 3 cruisers, the corvette, one of the Excelsiors and the heavy destroyer for the Federation.

My current plan to to have all the playable Federation ships done, hardpointed and ingame before moving back to the Klingons. I may even decide to do the Federation GUI before moving onto the Klingons and Romulans.

The only Federation vessels required now is a frigate, cargo, colony and repair.

I am currently not too sure on the light destroyer I kitbashed today so I may be kitbashing a new one and just having the one I make today as a vessel that appears in the campaign.

But alot of progress has been achieved today. If I have to estimate now much of the Federation is done now I would say around 35-40%, that includes the balancing, GUI, stations and weapons that need to be done. Model wise the Federation side is at about 50% give or take a model or two.

Also I have a general question. Does anyone know what colour the shields were for the ships in TMP era?

yeah , but TOS and TMP are the same to me , just upgraded . still looks interestin tho ;) . always wondered what the klingons would do when a excelsior class fired on there BoP , cloak or ram :eek:

Progress Update:

I have now hardpointed the following for the Federation and are now ingame:

Corvette
Heavy Destroyer
Light Cruiser
Medium Cruiser
Heavy Cruiser
Assault ship
Light Battleship
Heavy Battleship

Enterprise-B Hero
Enterprise-A Hero

Lord_Trekie is doing some texture modifications for me so the Enterprise-A will have the correct registry and the Excelsior hero unit will also have the correct registry as Lord_Trekie is also adding the registry to that ship as well.

Now I am looking for a someone who is able to modify the Orca class and turn it into the Oberth class and someone is is able to make a Okinawa and apply simular or the same textures that the other ships have.

Both vessels would have to be at or under the 1000 mark. The Orca herself is 700 so she may have to go over a little.

I am also thinking of seeing if I can get ahold or poly reduce the Niijima class for a map unit that will appear in the campaign.

For now I am going to be working on the Federation GUI, and trying to find a good design for a Federation light destroyer.

Update:

Been a bit more progress last night and this morning.

I am still awaiting a response from a SFC modeller about using his models. If the word is yes, them I will have all but three of the Klingon warships done as well as having 2 Romulan ships done.

I got the permission to use some cargo ships so the Romulans, Federation and Klingon cargo ships are done along with the scavenger cargo ship.

The former Klingon cargo ship is now the mining freighter, so I have both the Federation and Klingon freighters done.

The USS Excelsior hero unit is now completed thanks to Lord_Trekie.

I still have yet to come up with a Federation light destroyer and frigate.

I am trying to get into contact with Captain Fingers/Darth Spanky. If anyone knows how to contact him it would be greatly appreicated.

It's not textured. So, it would be best to send me the ship and TGAs. You know the drill. I may be able to make a lower poly pod too.

destroyer frigates ur lookin for ? . how about the Akula Class ? . she is small , not as well armed as the Miranda Light Cruisers and well , weaker ;) .

Yes, that is the one. Try to get the Akula for your Destroyer and the Okinawa for your Frigate...

You relly want to have the Akula (which means "Shark", by the way) in the mod? Personally I find it is ugly and does not honour the deadly elegance of the sub (or a shark).


The model itself is quite good, though! :thumbsup:

Just a question: which combat value has my all-time favourite Klingon K'T'Inga?

The K'Tinga? Shes not in the mod....

Just joking that like not having the Conny in it. :lol:

The K'Tinga is my all time favourite Klingon vessel as well. She will be the Empire's heavy cruiser, thus being the most common Klingon vessel in the mod. ;)

Update:

I have decided to drop the light destroyer from the list so each race only has one destroyer class each. I though about it and I didn't see the point in having 2 classes of destroyers, especially when having the frigate in there.

I am still on the look out for a Okinawa class around 1000 pollies that will fit in with the rest of the fleet. I many have to either use a model of less quality or find/make/kitbash a completely different class.

So while I am on the lookout I have been busy with the Klingons. I was going to do the Federation GUI first but I haven't had much of an inspiration to do it. I am thinking of using the SFC 2 GUI's as a base. So if anyone has the original graphics for the Federation, Klingn and Romulan SFC2 GUI's/interfaces it would be appreicated if you let me know and send them to me.

With the Romulans and the Klingons I am thinking of using a new K'Tinga and Stormbird model, but as I said earlier I am still awaiting the go ahead from the original SFC 3 modeller.

I have poly reduced them and they are a shade under 2000 pollies, I have retextured them to hav 5 texture maps each instead of the original 30 or so.
