• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

LOL that is not surprising, I think it would be too OP though and exploited to the max!

I'm posting from the new(er) computer! I finally got it built enough to run!

Old specs:
2.24 Ghz single core 32bit Intel CPU
2GB DDR RAM
GeForce FX 5700LE

New specs:
2.33 Ghz dual core 64bit Intel CPU
4GB DDR2 RAM
GeForce 9400 GT

Still not top of the line by any means, but it's a huge improvement. It's also without Windows right now because XP doesn't support SATA, I don't have two hundred dollars to drop on 7 or 8, and I don't have a functioning DVD drive right now anyway (my old one died) so I'll need to see if I can set up a virtual machine with XP in the mean time.

I'm curious about using XP. It made me really nervous that all the security updates ceased so I quit using my XP machine even though I didn't use it too much anyway.

I used XP without antivirus for eight or nine years and was fine aside from the one time I had to wipe my computer and start over. So long as you aren't going to shady sites or downloading mysterious email attachments you should be safe. If the site's not dangerous, then it doesn't really matter how many security holes you have. However, XP doesn't support SATA devices, has iffy multi-core support, the 64bit version was horrible, and it can't use Direct X higher than 9.0c. I'd only really recommend XP for use in a virtual machine as a last ditch compatibility mode.

I personally use Ubuntu 12.04 as my main OS and have XP as a fallback for Windows programs that won't run with Wine, like Armada.

Forgot about the OEM copies. Still, I need to save money for now. At least the old computer is still assembled.

Got XP installed. I dumped it to an old IDE drive then added SATA drivers so it can access my SharedNTFS partition. Anything is possible when you're stubborn enough! Also means that once the data is transfered via my external hard drive, I can ditch the old system entirely.

I don't think anybody has used my stuff for a POTD, but I have seen Jetfreak use a modified version of my blue shields and that was pretty exciting.

I never spotted any of my ships on a POTD, but I always got super stoked when a picture I submitted would go up on SFC3Files. Especially considering they has some pretty high quality stuff being submitted there back then (2004-2007).

I don't think anyone has ever included my work in A2F POTD, though that being said I am not surprised as most of my stuff until recently has been restricted to a small number of people. I know Jetfreak does often use my work in his images on DeviantART which I often get a kick from. :D

I got nostalgic after posting and went and trudged through the SFC3Files POTD archives for some of mine...in some cases the recollection was more glorious than the actuality haha! Here's a few of my favorites though, even after all these years.

Those are some nice pics, Zelph. What is that ship at the bottom of the third image?

Today it was so hot that one of my cats needed help getting in the house. The porch was hot enough that when she jumped on it she immediately jumped back off and started meowing for help so I picked her up and carried her into the house.

I think that third ship is the Hecate. It's available in BI3

Twas indeed the Hecate! A heavy cruiser load out - phaser heavy - that I called the USS Rosenberg I believe. That was a fun battle. I had a few heavy battleships with me out of frame, took a while, but we beat that cube. Lost the sweet little Pulsar class frigate in front though.

We're still prepping for it here, took a fun picture when we dropped by the beach to see the waves earlier.

It says 'Arthur' and you're good man. It was tricky to get a shot where the words were semi-readable haha.

Ah thanks. How is it going now with the hurricane? We don't get many tornadoes but they are mainly water spouts, we do get a fair share of cyclones but usually in the summer seasons up north.

Still waiting for it to hit. It'll get to my area in the wee hours tonight and it's supposed to move through fairly quickly.

As far as storms go, this is the earliest one that they've had here in some time, it kind of caught everyone off-guard. When it hits us, we're supposed to be looking at some mildish winds, probably 60-70 mph. I'm more worried about flooding and the storm surge, we'll see what happens there. We're kind of on an island, so it'll be interesting for sure.

Hopefully it won't be too bad and you can get through it without issue. Keep us posted.

It's passed over now, just some residual showers and wind gusts. Last night felt dicey at a few points, mainly because of the strength of the wind. We weathered it fine though, just a minor roof leak and a damaged screen.

That's good to hear Zelph, could have been a lot worse. In 2007 were we used to live had it's 30 year storm, flash flooding and the works. We also weathered that fine, it was the year before I met Katala and was still working building trains.

Our biggest issue here in Australia is usually bushfires they just move so far and change direction so quickly like a tornado/hurricane etc you simply can't predict what they would do.
