Some tidying and tinkering on the Rhode Island.

Back to the one I'm supposed to be working on. A few more tweaks to clean up the base mesh, added the cutouts to the nacelles, added a sensor dome and placeholder waverider shuttle (which I hate - seriously, who thought it'd be a good idea to cut a massive hole in the hull to fit a shuttle into. What happens if it crashes? You get left with a hole in the hull )

Well, it does allow the ship to carry a support vessel even larger than a runabout. I imagine they would reinforce the docking area so it's more that the hull is contoured to the craft rather than having a hole in the shape of the craft.

True, but it's still wasted space in a relatively small hull. We all saw how often Voyager used its aeroshuttle in its seven years - they even went as far as designing a totally new one!

Good point. I think the writers may have forgotten about it.

I'm afraid that not all of my ships are designed for A2, a number of them are high poly models - 30-75k polygons. My low poly meshes are, for the most part, in the downloads section, but the high poly ones aren't.
The Rhode Island is one of the high poly meshes and so won't be uploaded, although if there is significant interest I may see if I can modify the base mesh to A2 standards once I've finished the big one. The Starfuries come in around 10k in Maya, which means they'll be around 18k if I were to convert them to A2. So it may be possible to make beauty shots with them but they won't be gameworthy.

And placement of the big windows and lower sensor pallets. The upper pallets have me stumped at the moment, it's proving difficult to match the rather unusual shape on a sloped surface.

Ok, so I've figured out how to build the RCS thrusters. Here's another picture with a base material half heartedly thrown onto the nacelles. I'm loving the nacelles, I may have to rebuild my Intrepid nacelles along these lines.

Big News!!!
I have quadrupled the RAM on my Maya PC to a whopping 2GB (well it seems massive to me  ). To celebrate I have run an experiment on glow maps. All that time placing windows on the mesh, wasted...

Still trying to get the hang of the light levels, grrrr.
Also threw an image on my Rhode Island mesh, seems I misjudged that secondary deflector by a fair margin...

And the uv mapping has been progressing with a vengeance. I'm still trying to figure out a basic hull texture to use and still need a few changes to the engineering hull before I can finish though. (as ever ignore the upper surface skin, that's just a picture overlaid on it)

Replaced the upper hull shield grids and finally put the escape pods in properly. Next up, the upper saucer windows.
Meh, back to work tomorrow :(

Looks good so far!

I always liked the look of the Nova class, and I am also currently watching the Voyager episode Equinox (...well tonight when I get home from work since it is the next episode in Netflix's queue).

Anyone remember that SSN I was working on? Well I got fed up of doing windows on the Rhode Island so I decided I'd finish uv mapping it as i's on the "to do" list. Here she is alongside the Reverence (not mine - background). As the SSN is only 135m long, you can see she's somewhat dwarfed by the much larger battle carrier. And no, I never did choose a name.

And an update with another picture.

How about the Lamprey for the smaller one and Leviathan for the larger?

I decided "what the hell" and started doing my Archangel variant of the Atlantis DSV as well. Not quite finished yet, but well on the way.

Archangel textures finished, just the tubes, windows and lights to go. And a picture in case people don't grasp how big an Atlantis class DSV actually is...

EDIT:
And now complete. It took about 15 minutes for all the torpedo tubes (36 of them :D) and windows to process when I boolianed them! I think I still need some practice with my lighting, but thats enough for tonight.
