• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

As I had a long weekend with nothing much to do last week, I finished the bump map on my Starfury. Not that it makes much difference, but its the little things. So here's a basic render test - nothing fancy.
Also, I've had a request! So here's a grab of my latest WIP, an intermediate poly Rhode Island.

Although I've read plenty of B5 fanfiction, I've never actually watched any of the show. So this is the first time that I've actually had a clue as to what a Starfury looks like. Awesome work!

I highly recommend you watch the show. It doesn't look like any of the streaming services have it, though.

Agree wholeheartedly. You won't find a better constructed sci-fi story arc. The CGI is starting to look a little dated, but it still doesn't look bad (I've just finished rewatching series 3). If you watch it, you have to start from the season 1 as there all all sorts of small tidbits that become important later. Unfortunately, the first half of season 1 is a bit dry, but stick with it, the last couple of episodes of season 1 will get you hooked until the end of season 4.
I would advise that you give the spin off film Legend of the Rangers a miss - it's terrible. I would also suggest not watching the film In The Beginning until after you've finished (maybe end of Season 2 at the earliest) as it has spoilers for seasons 1 and 2.
If you've read B5 fanfiction, I hope you've read The Dilgar War. It is incredibly well written and ties into the series in all sorts of subtle ways. It could have been written by the One himself.

And don't forget to start with The Gathering. Sometimes it's labeled as a made-for-TV-movie, but it's really the pilot episode.

And if you can find it, I recommend the Thirdspace movie once you're done. It takes place sometime during season 4. I've heard people bash it, but has an interesting story, some great visuals and it's IMHO the closest B5 ever got to Lovecraft (and B5 is pretty Lovecraftian already). Worth watching if you end up liking these aspects of B5. I for one enjoyed it a lot.

Agreed, Thirdspace isn't a bad movie, it just doesn't fit anywhere with the series. Think of it as a special one off (with updated graphics) and watch it after finishing the series.

Nothing constructive to say other than, gorgeous ships!
Thank you.

Now whilst we wait for more paint to arrive (and we all know that if you upset the Post Office you get in real trouble) here's an update on the Nova refit.

I'd recommend this order:

The Gathering, Seasons 1, 2, 3, 4, Thirdspace, In the Beginning, Season 5, River of Souls, A Call to Arms, Crusade, Legends of the Rangers (Can be missed but it has G'Kar and worth watching just for him), Lost Tales.

It really is an awesome series and it up there in my top 2 series of all time, and no Trek doesn't make the top 2.

Babylon 5 really is an awesome series, I would like to see a graphic update on the series, basically a revamp on all the CGI to today's standards like what we say in the Lost Tales with the station and ships. I would happily re-buy the series again, on blu-ray this time if they did this. :D

A word of warning, the network actively tried to ruin Crusade so they could weasel out of the contract. It may not be entirely coherent as a whole.

I know that the big list of B5 things to watch sounds daunting, but just start with The Gathering and go from there. Thirdspace, In the Beginning, and River of Souls are nice, but hardly essential. If you start to get burned out, skip them and just do season 5. They're not important to the plot of the main show, so you're not going to have a problem if you hold off on watching them.

Thanks both. A surprisingly easy build, after a couple of false starts. Not finished yet, but you know you're getting close when you get a shiver down your spine from looking at it. A shadow cruiser radiates evil, but a sharlin is just intimidating.

Forgive me while I express my ignorance, but what ship is that a Minbari ship?

Minbar - The leading name in over-powered space-fish since the previous Shadow War. When you absolutely need to kill something, think Minbari. [cheesy jingle plays]

Sharlin class. A heavy cruiser where the designer had obviously never heard of the term overkill. Lotsa big guns, thick armour, a hanger full of the galaxies best fighter craft and a stealth system making them nigh on impossible to detect (a good thing as they're as big as the proverbial barn door... on a very big barn).

I think this says it all really...

And why, you may be asking, have I had a sudden obsession with the Sharlin? Because I wanted to make this picture.

Should be watched with this youtube clip - but only if you don't mind spoilers for the greatest war in human history.

Anyone else here get lost in watching all these video clips. I know I haven't, but I feel up to speed on B5 now after watching for over an hour. :)

Nope.

If only you knew...

One last picture before I finish up for the weekend. Just a few odds and ends to do before I can call the geometry complete.
