Hey Chile! Would you please post a pic or two of both your versions of Galactica? You know, the regular one and the one with the Flight Pods retracted?

Hello:

Right now I must finish a homework before going to the university again (taking a moment to check e-mails and take a look at Majestic's Valkyrie), but I guess I can take new pics of Galactica as the model received a slight update since the last time you saw it Thunderfoot.

I will post pics in my next post, is that ok?

As for what StarfleetKid has posted, well, I did learn how to do wieframes as they are included with my 8472 releases, I just need some time to make some for my Battlestars (and I think I know how to do cool buttons by "borrowing" one of Thunderfoot's ideas  ). But I really appreciate your offer and don't be surprised if you receive a pm sometime.

Hello:

Yay! for double posts! but I think this might be the only way to make sure Thunderfoot can see that I updated this topic.

Here are the pics of the Galactica... I am thinking in a total rebuild, but the reduction I have is pretty good right now.

I hope you'll all like the pics :).

The texture was updated from Coxxon's original to add all missing AAA guns, nuke launchers and some other details.

In my next reply, I will post some pics of a surprise BSG model I have, so stay tuned :D.

I really wish there were some BSG ships with turrets still on them available somewhere. I love your Valkyrie, Mercury, Columbia, ect. I think those turrets just add one extra level of canon-ness to the ships. Even if they are much higher poly, I think the turrets are worth it.

Beautiful work Chile, the reason I personally remove turrets off my BSG ships is due to the fire arcs of weapons and it would look weird having a weapon fire from the side of a turret. Plus they add a great deal of poly's to the overall model.

That Columbia is beautiful, better than the one I did. I had mine down approx 3k poly's, what did you get yours to? :)

Hello:
And thank you for your comments, my Columbia class (with no turrets) has about 2028 polies but still having all antenas and details (like in the pics).

I also have them with no turrets for normal ingame or with some low-poly turrets I made, specially for non mass-production ships (like the bigger ones). The Galactica with low-poly guns has 3036 polies and the one in the pic has 8262 polies.

Z, the turrets are what pushes the poly counts thru the roof. I have an earlier version of this Galactica which Chiletrek shared with me on the promise I would not pass it on. She is gorgeous aganist an MU2.0 background with one of Yacuzza's named planets in it. But five or six just like her will onscreen all shooting and launching Vipers will tax a vidcard pretty quickly. And before anyone gets the wrong idea, I am Chiletrek's biggest fan. He is my oldest Internet friend. Without his help and guidance to a newbie modder, none of the things I've released over the years would have ever come to pass. I sent Chiletrek copies of the ODFs I did for this ship and his Pegasus(which is equally gorgeous). BTW, Chile, incase you've forgotten, you have carte blanche to do whatever you want with anything I've shared with you over the years, so the ODFs can be released with these ships. It should be not too complicated for anyone to add these to the Half Race Mod, or any other BSG based mod available for A2.

The Half Race Mod uses Majestic's PRP ships because they have a much lower poly count. We did not want to create something where lag interfered with one's enjoyment of actually playing as the Colonial Fleet. The PRP BSG ships really are quality ships as well. They had the added virtue of being available when kjc733 and I were putting together BSGHRM 1.0. Chile's work was still tied to BSA at the time. Maj's firm belief low poly does not equal low quality is valid. Especially late game when one has five or six battle groups swanning about launching clouds of Vipers and Raptors and shooting up everything in sight.

Uncle Thunder's A2 Modding Rule Number Seven: When modding new ships into an old game, prioritize towards effect rather canon level accuracy.

Could you post pics of the lower poly Galactica with guns? (the one with ~3000 polys)

Hello:

Lol, I can try to go ingame and take pics of Galactica with the lower turret, but I hope you won't get mad if I post them tomorrow, is that ok? :). (I am still trying to finish a variant of the Pantak class Vigilante).

But I have some pics of what MaP once said could be "the highest-poly model ever for Armada.". I quoted him to show some pics of the Battlestar Galactica with full ribbing!

This monster has 60000 polies, so you can expect lags from this one, but to see it ingame is just amazing.

Holy... Now thats what I call a ship!!

If I had a Galactica as a map object or hero ship, that is what I would want:yum:

Oh, and post pics whenever you please. Today, tomarrow, next week, never... No problem.

Hello:
Well, I'll try and have pics to show tomorow, after all, the ships with lower-count turrets are the ones I used to most for hero units like Galactica and Pegasus.

@Thunderfoot: I cannot take all the credit for the modding you have made and will make. I may have answered your questions, and I may have been there to help you by giving you a push in the right direction, but it is you who made all the mods you have made, and they are great indeed :).

Well done indeed, that's a amazing poly count you have there, beats me. I wasn't happy with the 3k poly count on the PRP version but I really didn't want to have to do a total rebuild, I did a partial rebuild mainly on the flightpods and engine area. That was enough for me.

Keep up the great work.

Which I hope you contine to use, it's the Half Race mod that has inspired me to release many more of the ships including the recently released Valkyrie and her variants. :)

Maj's firm belief low poly does not equal low quality is valid. Especially late game when one has five or six battle groups swanning about launching clouds of Vipers and Raptors and shooting up everything in sight.

Hey I like that motto, I may borrow it.

Hello:
That motto will be nice to see again, because I think it is true too. I am always trying to get my models the more good-looking possible by making them to have the less possible polygons, because I do enjoy a good game with no lags too... like we all do.

Maybe soon I can post some pics from other models too, I guess people might want to see some Leviathans too :D.

Heh, i still like to see the turrets. for any ship like that, i wouldn't have more than one or two onscreen anyway. In my mod, you are really only in control of one battle group and, not counting fighters, you can have a max of... hmmm 8 ships? most people will only have 7 though. Eventually I'll add more, but I really wish I could get highish poly ships for the hero/map units. even for the main ships because there aren't many in use at once.

I have to say though, I am one of the many that would not be where I am today without Chili. Though you may not know it Chili, many of my ideas came from you, and many of my problems were solved by simply talking to you. Yay for Chili:excited:

Wow, that was something I really didn't know. I am always glad to lend a hand so your message was indeed a nice surprise for me :).

As for more ships, you may have more soon... as I first need some spare time to make some final touches to some models :D .

This monster has 60000 polies

That would tax even BC or Legacy.

I agree with this but have learned of to make use of the game's built in resource management systems. So I load the polies on the front end when you are in close and try and get as low as posible on the back 400+ meters out. Good low poly models make that eaiser as there is less polies to dump along the way out.

Hello:
Yes, the full-ribbed Galactica made by Coxxon can sure cause lags ingame, so I would just use it to take eye-candy pics only.

And you are correct about the polygons, with time, one can figure where to put a bit more of polies than in other places that could barely seen, but that also depends on the design. But I am very happy about the thinking of making models with a good balance of polygons and looks.

Its more then that. The game let you use up to 4 different distinct mesh lods. that means at 50m from the camera the model can be 5000polies, at 100m 3000 polies, at 200m 1500 polies, and at 400 750 polies. Add 4 lods for the textures and at 400m all your models can run at stock resouce levels and still be POTD quality up close at least that is what I'm trying to perfect.

Hello:
Well, I really know nothing about lods except for what have I seen in stock ships and maybe things posted by you (probably), but it can be difficult at times to make so many versions of a same ship. I hope you'll be able to do some tutorials if and when you feel that your methos is perfect *insert Borg face here*.

There really are not enough adjectives to describe how amazing your work is Chile, seriously I cannot say enough about the quality of everything you mod :)

As always I look forward to more from you whenever you have the chance to post it, whether it's Farscape, BSG or other material it's sure to be brilliant

Hello:
And thank you very much Dan. I am posting some ingame pics of some Battlestars, not too fancy I pressume so I admit I wish I can take pics Jetfreak style :D. As for new mods, since when I was a kid I always loved Moonbase Alpha and the Eagle Transporters from "Space: 1999" but I was never able to have a toy of those... so thanks to a friend of mine 8not a modder) I might try them. What do you, and everybody think of that idea?

I'll see what I can do but I t would help speed the process if people would trst and comment on the 4 ships I have posted in my thread.

Hello:
I am sorry to hear that, maybe you need to post some more fancy pics maybe? I can try and go take a look at them. But if to make a ship has a lot of wrok, I can only try to imagine the ammount of work to make lods.
Keep it up!

Here are the pics I mentioned above.

Hello:
In September13th 1999, a massive explosion caused by an accident in the nuclear waste deposits in the Moon caused that our natural satellite were blows away from it's orbit. The 311 people from Moonbase Alpha found themselves flying into deep space with no means to return home. That is how their adventures started.

As a little tribute to the sci-fi serie "Space:1999", I made something I've been wanting to do since I started modding: I made my own Eagle Transporters from the serie and I wanted to share some pics with you all.

Sadly, I ran out of time and I was unable to fully complete some modules and I haven't even started on Moonbase Alpha, but here are some pics of what I have done so far :).

EagleMeshModule01-transportarms.jpg

EagleMeshModule02-lab.jpg

EagleMeshModule02-labbooster.jpg

EagleMeshModule03-winch.jpg

EagleMeshModule04-cargo.jpg

And finally, two pics of fully textured models. The designs are very modular so you can comnine modules and pods to fit your needs.

I hope you'll all like my little tribute to Space:1999.
