TV WEEK had something positive and negative to say about 24 in its latest issue.

I start off with the negative: Kim and the Mountain Lion in Day 2 came in 7th in the list of Silliest Story Lines on television. They didn't find it very believable nor with Kim being a computer operator at CTU a Day later.

Now the positive: the final hour of Day 5 on August 3 is TV WEEK's highlight of the day.

Day 5 on Australian TV

11PM-1AM:
21 1/2 hours before this started I incidentally saw the Point Pleasant episode Waking the Dead which featured briefly James Morrison's voice as he had earlier appeared in a three episodes of that show.
William Devane finally returns as Defence Secretary Heller.
President Logan now reminds me of another evil President - Marcus Clark in Babylon 5.
We did not see it on screen nor was it mentioned what exactly happened but presumably Evelyn and Amy have been killed by Henderson. It is very unlikely he would have kept them alive.
Very funny Chloe's remark of writing a report for being in the toilet.
Knew something was wrong when Jack entrusted the information about Logan to Heller as Heller decides to use it to blackmail Logan into resigning.
Chloe sure told Shari off.
What happened to Aaron???
During the last ad break, Kiefer Sutherland's new movie The Sentinel was shown.
Horrified when I saw blood dripping from Audrey's hand.
With Henderson getting the evidence, Logan was very cunning into turning his resignation into Heller's.
Very interesting to see what is going to happen in the next six hours.

Day 5 on Australian TV

1AM-3AM:
Director Dwight Little had previously directed Jayne Atkinson in Free Willy 2.
As it turns out Walt did not commit suicide but was murdered. Suspected as much.
Oh my Heller is dead. That makes five former or current regulars who have been killed off this Day.
The person that Logan talks to I am speculating that they maybe Nina's employers who we did not see before.
Karen does not seem dismissive when Shari told her what Chloe said about Logan. So glad she decided secretly to go to Jack's side.
Really feel sorry for Martha when Charles told her the truth.
Like the music that was played for a few minutes after 2AM.
The guy in the hotel that Chloe meets did not seem much of a problem as I thought he would as she stased him twice.
Ad for Sentinel was shown during an ad break.
Fun seeing Jack on the plane as he finally gets the recording back.
What a stunning end as Logan is being told by that person to shoot the plane down.

This is WOW and with Day 5 approaching its end 24 has truly excelled.

Day 5 on Australian TV

3AM-5AM:
This installment started with a plane in distress. Interestingly the A-Team episode Dishpan Man which was on TV1 a couple of hours before this installment of 24 started also had a plane in distress.
Yoo-hoo, Heller is still alive.
Like the music that was played about the plane being shot down.
How did Chloe get to CTU from the hotel so fast?
The shot of the plane above the freeway was used as part of 7's promo for the show prior to its return. Until it was used again for last Thursday's preview I had completely forgotten about it.
Karen tells Miles about the evidence. Miles then tells Logan about it. I so knew he could not be trusted.
If losing the recording was not bad enough, Bierko has escaped.
Just after 4:30AM Henderson says they don't have hours. He got that right.
Yippee Aaron is still alive. He is saved when Martha shot the agent who was about to kill him. A First Lady shooting someone, that is definitely something I have not seen before.
The lieutenant being shot dead, I so saw that coming.
A good ending as Bierko and his men takes over the submarine.

Day 5 on Australian TV

5AM-7AM:
The final two hours were directed by Jon Cassar. Of course, who else.
Liked the music in the submarine especially the drumbeat.
Jack kills Henderson. I really was not expecting that.
We meet Morris, Chloe's ex-husband. That is a surprise.
Absolutely brilliant the way Jack tricked Logan into giving his confession.
Laughed upon seeing the expression on Logan's face as he is being arrested.
However the group that Logan has been collaborating with are still at large. Perhaps a story for another Day.
Jack is told that he has a call from Kim. Therefore I thought we get to see Elisha only to turn out as a trap as Jack is grabbed by the people he ran away from in the first place: the Chinese.
Did not count the number of times I said "Oh no" upon seeing that final shot. Thank goodness there's another Day to look forward to.

I got to see the repeat of last week's At The Movies yesterday in which Margaret and David reviewed Kiefer Sutherland's movie The Sentinel in a role from the looks of it is not too dissimilar to Jack Bauer. However despite this neither Margaret or David mentioned 24. Guess neither of them are 24 fans. Either that or they did not want to alert viewers to the irony that they are reviewing this movie while Kiefer Sutherland at the same time was seen on 24 on 7.

In TV WEEK's list of Top Ten Comebacks of people in entertainment who have made a successful comeback in their careers, Alan Dale for playing Vice President Jim Prescott came in at fifth place. (Stefan Dennis from Neighbours came in at first.) It explained that because of his role on 24 it led to him having roles in other shows including The O.C. & Lost.

24 has won two Emmys, one for Outstanding Drama Series. It has beaten Grey's Anatomy, House, The Sopranos & The West Wing. The other award went to Kiefer Sutherland for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He has beaten Peter Krause (Six Feet Under), Denis Leary (Rescue Me), Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) and Martin Sheen (The West Wing).

Well done Kiefer.

Also nominated but unsuccessful in the Drama category were Gregory Itzin for Outstanding Supporting Actor and Jean Smart for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Itzin lost out to Alan Alda from The West Wing while Smart lost to Blythe Tanner from Huff.

Mr AJ over at the Dark Mirror forum informed me that 24 also won an Emmy for directing as Jon Cassar won for his direction of 7AM-8AM.

Last night I watched the Family Guy episode Stu & Stewie's Excellent Adventure on 7 last night and as it started, to my surprise came the 24 intro and I thought, has 7 put 24 on by mistake. It is no mistake at all because as soon as the 24 logo appeared it changed into FG and came on-screen "Previously on FG" with Kiefer Sutherland doing the voiceover as he says "Previously on Family Guy". Like 24, the Family Guy episode presents key characters with their names appearing on screening. Bizarrely enough this sequence ended with a clip from The Chevy Chase Show. In fact it stated clearly on-screen that this was unrelated.
It was absolutely fun watching it.

Jack Bauer was mentioned in this week's episode of House, Euphoria Part 2. For those who did not see it this is how it went (from TV.com):
House: Ooh, Level Three. You should call Jack Bauer.

Last night 7 began showing Dennis Haysbert's new show The Unit which is in similiar environment to 24. Overall it was not bad. Another interesting thing is that it guest starred Michael O'Neill who was Richard Walsh in Day 1 of 24.

A couple of hours after 7PM-9PM finished saw Dennis Haysbert again in Buck Rogers this time in the episode The Guardians and appears much more than his previous two appearances.
Saw the last of his appearances in Buck Rogers in the episodes The Hand of Goral & the final episode The Dorian Secret. Interestingly in the former episode his character is finally given a name while the latter simply credits him as a nameless character again. Still good to see him in addition to The Unit.

Another 24 person has appeared in The Unit as Tzi Ma (Cheng Zhi) appeared in last night's episode 200th Hour. It was a very good performance.

I just saw the trailer for season 6:
http://www.24trailer.com/

It looked pretty good and it includes one of the characters being in an important role, so if people don't want to know now better not click on it.

Sarah looked beautiful in the final Commander In Chief episode. In fact this brings Commander In Chief full circle with 24 viewers as the first episode featured Leslie Hope (who also appear in four later episodes). To add to this as Donald Sutherland, a Commander In Chief regular is of course Kiefer's father and another Commander In Chief regular Henry Lennix has since landed a role on 24.

Recently on 10, found out from Daniel McPherson that the upcoming new season of The Simpsons will have a spoof on 24 with Kiefer Sutherland voicing Jack Bauer on the show. Should be interesting to see.

I am pleased. I won some money at the casino. So, my efforts to do things I had not been able to do before included buying season 4 and 5 of 24. Now I just have to get the first 3 seasons.

Andrew Mercado from the Sydney Sunday Telegraph wrote the following in yesterday's paper:
"24 hurtles along
Seven is rushing the latest series of 24 to air as soon as the ratings year begins in a bid to keep the fast-paced show as close as possible to US episodes."

What a surprise that Aussies will be having Day 6 much sooner than expected.

Atleast now I know how long I have to wait to talk about the awesome events of this season. All I can say is at the end of the 4th episode. What they advertised about everything being different is true. The events of this new season blow all the other seasons away. literally.  I will wait till Feb 2nd to talk about the first 4 episodes. I would not want to give up anything. Everything I have already said is what was advertised on tv before it showed here in the US.

Day 6 on Australian TV

6AM-8AM:
First of alll like to comment on some of the new people that have turned up on the series.
Raphael Sbarge and Megan Gallagher, who played the husband and wife whose neighbour has been arrested, I have seen in other stuff. In fact coincidentally I saw Sbarge in the morning in the Quantum Leap episode Animal Frat.
Although Alexander Siddig makes his first appearance in 24, he however is not in unfamiliar territory as he guest starred in an episode of Spooks considered by many to be the British 24.
Henry Lennix (Walid Al-Rezani) was a regular in Commander In Chief whose co-stars include Donald Sutherland, Kiefer's father. Oh my the character he plays here in 24 is very different from the one he played in Commander In Chief. In fact beforehand I actually thought that I would seeing him in the White House.
Wayne Palmer President and Bill and Karen married. No surprises there. However I am surprised to see Peter MacNicol as someone we the audience loves to hate.
Overall despite the slow beginning I thought this is a very solid start to Day 6.

Day 6 on Australian TV

Well Alexander Siddig is not the first Star Trek person to have appear on 24 as Penny Johnson and Michelle Forbes have already done so in past seasons.

8AM-10AM:
An observation:noticed the time of 9:11 being displayed on screen. Probably deliberate.
Liked the music when Ahmed let Jillian go.
Quite fun seeing this fight between Milo and Morris and quite a surprise that Milo and Chloe had a thing together.
Wasn't surprised that Curtis got killed off as Roger Cross has been credited as a guest star rather than as a regular. However I was shocked that he was killed by Jack and I felt a tear in my eye when I saw it happened.
The explosion at the end was not like any other explosion I have seen before.

I have to say that I am not too sure I am happy with the new time of Wednesday 10:30 from next week. Another thing is that it follows on from Heroes & Prison Break both of which I also watch. So Wednesday nights is going to be a marathon for me.
