• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

    We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Yeah, I mean I can help with that if we go there, but I think it is more work than we need. If this is just intended to work in FO, and not be a FO style mod, then I think it will be fine to do single ranks and such. We could have a vet rank once a ship has accumulated a lot of XP, but I think that we shouldn't do all 6 ranks.

If we don't do ranks then I don't think it would be a stretch to do the system backgrounds and icons, but it is certainly not required either.:)

I like that idea. Plus it can be a unique feature of the race: standard and veteran.

Any ship stuff I can do with a render, setting up a little studio type thing so they all have the same type of light and shadow and are at the same angle. Depending on how many new assets we have, this can take anything from half an hour to two hours work.

On other note, Syf is there anyway that the 'Ship Stats & Names' role could be split? The only reason I ask is that stats and everything may fit better in a 'Gameplay Systems' role, where we can have people actually work out what ships and stuff we need and what roles they fill; plus things like techtrees and research options.

Ship stats sounds like a key role you see, and I think it needs a lot of thought and planning.

Oh, and for reference I don't mind being in either/both groups :).

I have already started workups for mission rols and ship specs as part of Modeling/HPing for the fleet. I'll try to get it all wrot down for whom ever ends up needing it before the model work is done.

Speaking of models I need all members of the Model/Texture teams to compile good pics and short descriptions of all Breen ships and stations you have except for the BC/SFC RedDragon fleet of models. I already have them and will be working up a unified texture for the ships from that group we end up using. With any luck that texture may work to cover the majority if not all the models in the mod. I'll be PMing you all with specifics latter today.

Ill start doing some research and compilations for Breen ships and some stats...get a working set of files going and then we can go from there... I keep an updated version of my odfs on my phone so that if i wanna mod them at work..i can..then i just drag the file to my mod on my computer and voila..i can test and play at will...ill start some today when i have some downtime..

I honestly don't have time to do that for all 40 ships that I have, sorry. I can send you the files or upload them somewhere but I really can't do that for all the models I've done.

I never really got around to coming up with any to be honest, I designed each ship with a specific role in mind but other than that I didin't start making up background information.

Shall I just send the models to you specifically or shall I put them up for everyone?

I'll leave that up to you. With the time constaints theres no way to get all of them in this mod so I'm really looking to cherry pick the best ones to fill out any holes in the fleet roster once that settles down in a day or 2.

I never showed or released any of the Breen stuff I did. I was quietly working on a full race mod on my own during the summer, but it dead-ended when I went back to uni and had no free time, plus I could never come up with any decent station designs.

Starfox, I've got no Breen ships I'm afraid so that'd be a very, very short list :lol:. We'll need stations though, so I can give those a shot if you want.

Basically, any bits and pieces to do with the 3d side (modelling/UVWing/rendering) I'm available for.

File transfers should be kept private right now. If your the Primary of the group, then all files, documents, models, etc need to go to you, and through you. All Role groups do need to work together. So if one needs access to model or documents, please share them. Use the PM system, or email, file transfer sites, etc, but keep it private until we can compile and upload the mod.

We are simply building on what FO already has. We do not have to use "the entire new system", but rather, only the pieces we want. So if everyone likes the regular & Veteran system, we can use it. But we don't need to use the 6 rank system. I think we can bypass that. Maybe after we release the mod, if we are going for making more races, then we can explore the multi-rank system. It's up to you, the community, the team making this mod.

I do however wish to see modular stations. Also let's not forget the feature to call in reinforcements.

Majestic, once again I need to call on you. when you have time, could you make a list for the team what all FO does that stock A2 can not. Then everyone can decide on what features we use, and which ones we don't.

You can split this, but currently we have CptBenSisko and you in this role group. We would need at least one more community member. Plus also not forget, I will be here to help you, as well as anyone else. Also Majestic is a good Advisor, feel free to pick his brain if you get any snags. Also, the Background Story people can help out here, with things like ship names and such. You can focus on the one part at a time, and just ask others to give you a hand.

Let me just say, everyone in the mod team is a "helper" to each role. The ones that offered specific talents are assigned, while the others are a "resource" for each other.

Dan1025, I put you in secondary and helper roles for a reason. One, the workload issues, and two, you are a seasoned modder and can assist in many roles. If you had more time, I might have asked you to be the mod lead, but I don't want to push you into it.

Another thing to remember here. This is a community project. Other than files and actual mod pieces, everything should be openly talked about. Use this thread. If you feel you need a specific thread for your group, then you may make one (please start the title of the thread with "2011 Community Mod -" ). However, please come in here and let us know what your working on and how things are going.

List here which ships you decide to use guys, and I can go ahead and make FO buttons, wireframes, log pics and unless Amateur wants to do it, the systembackgrounds too.

I'm not fussed. Only reason I said is because Max makes it very simple to do generic renders like that; and the global illumination settings really make the details stand out.

You can do that or yousendit has a 7 day up to 1GB file hosting and you can download it straight away, you can email the link to yourself then share it with whoever you wish. Just an alternative you guys may not had considered.

As for Fleet Ops and how we are making this mod:

Modular stations are doable, I would recommend doing a shipyard like the early Klingon yard, if the Breen are going to spam their early units that would be a good way of doing it. I do also agree doing all the ranks at this point is a bit much, perhaps when the Son'a are being done they can be added in. Also one does not need to have the different weapons, perhaps just the stronger hull strengths. It depends now much the team wants this to work in with the FO stock races.

That's a tall order, I'll see what I can do it probably won't be anywhere near a full list and most of it will probably be a copy and paste from the guide for time saving and detailed purposes.

I suppose, but I have to do something and extraneous details like that are really lost on a less than 64x64 image.:lol:

you don't need wireframes anymore when you have systembackgrounds and weapon icons..... And the buildbuttons don't have to have a load of detail in them either..

Personally, Syf, I think you'd be better off letting your imagination roam for ideas and then we can tell you what can and cannot be done :) . There are a lot of coding possibilities built into Fleet Ops for modders (and that aren't used in the game itself), and you can do a large number of really nicely linked abilities and things (for instance, having a ship explode and thereby create a utritiumBall with a replaceWeapon which has the possibility of spawning a blackhole with a limited lifetime, or a Sphere, or whatever you want :thumbsup: )

Given that they are Minor races and are not as like to field a large congregant

these are brush war

brush war - brush is a synomym for skirmish, a brief minor fight. A brush war is a short, minor war.
