I would love to see a Clone Wars only mod, or failing that a Knights of the Old Republic one. I think there is enough Galactic Civil War games and mods for games out there.

I'd love to see a Clone Wars era mod as well, you could use some of the new designs seen in the Clone Wars animates series for inspiration

This, the Clone Wars definitely provides for some material for a good RTS game. Be cool to see, especially those Venator-Class Star Destroyers and Trade Federation Battleships.

Also, don't know if this is what you're talking about or not. but a fighter system like the one in Empire at War would be pretty legit. I don't know if its possible or not, I saw Adm Z talking about it on the FleetOps board a while back.

Yep, the fighter system I am developing is specifically for this mod. It isn't perfect right now but I am tinkering with it to try and get them to act like fighters in homeworld or EaW:thumbsup:

If you did a Clones Wars mod I am sure Amateur would donate a few models that he has done as would I. I would even help out with some of the modelling down the track as I have a few designs that I have always wanted to make from the Clone Wars.

If I want Trek, I play Armada. If I want SW, I'll go to EaW. So much of the good parts of SW happen on the ground-- gigantic space battles without planetary content, or hero units, like the kind I'd find in EaW, would be sort of a letdown relatively speaking. EaW got just about everything right, and since I own that game as well as A2, I can have the duality.

And I have minimal contact with the Clone Wars stuff being discussed here. So I'll say "sure, what Z and Dan and Majestic said!" in the hopes that it's worth the effort of someone doing for the game. Most of what I've seen of Clone Wars looks like various hot rod attempts at making super-starfighters and a whole lotta other stuff I don't really care about (and which wouldn't make it into an A2 mod anyway, like ground forces and random Jedi/Sith characters and so forth).

I dunno, some of the prequel ship designs do have some merit. I actually liked the Eta-2 and ARC-170.

I say go for it, although at this point ANY new SW content is welcomed.

Models aren't really a problem. Star Wars is as popular as trek so there is a supluss of stuff to convert. The main problem is time. I'm 1 guy so getting any project done will take a bit. Other real problems include guies and FO modding for that part of the mod. There os just too many gun and fighter options to not do an FO version:cool:

There is no way to better EAW or FOC in armada. These games where designed from the ground up to do what the do very well. That said there is really no reason someone couldn't mod A2 back into a ground battle game if they had the time.:p

I suppose it would be possible, but the engine changes since Battlezone mean it would probably require hooks like FO uses to look right.

Anyway, like everybody else says, Clone Wars would be fun, though I personally like the ships in KOTOR. There weren't really enough ships in KOTOR from both the Sith and the Republic to make even one full race, though.

A good CW mod, which gives a huge importance of fighters. In any earlier SW mod, fighters were only good for cannon fodder.
And, I'd like to see the Star Destroyers in their full grace, with tons of cannons!

Talking about that, does anybody remember Naval Armada? I remember Westworkl having a buttload of problems with it, and he ... he knew how **** worked.

I have to agree a little bit with Starbald's opinion about CW. It was an attempt to show how the Imperial military we know came into existence, and it was mostly a credible attempt. Some people went over the top with designs. Stuff was supposed to be just a little bit below Imperial tech (they had 20 years (?) to improve CW tech). Instead some people went for an "OMG WE MAKE IT OVER 9000 AWESOME AMIRITE?" effect. Still, most of it is credible. And I'd love to see an ACCLAMATOR in A2. :yum:

Thankfully in FO you can have fighters now which means they can be more useful and realistic compared to what we could do in the past. You may not be able to control them, but they are useful in attacking enemies.

I believe you are using FO as a base for this mod? It will give you more options and give a more realistic SW Mod.

Well maybe 1 but it would come off real weak to all the other races.:(

The importance of fighters in any era of SW is one of the difficulties of doing a good mod as even low poly fighters will quickly overwelm the low end pcs. I have some ides there but can't twst them yet.

As far as guns in their full glory go A2 is not the engine for that. You want hundreds of guns blazing get HW2 or BC. I tried it with te SSD and have never been truly happy with the resuaults and it is somthing you can't do in MS3D. Don'r woppy though I have been doing alot of work there and just about have somthing worth testing.

Right now I plan on doing somthing for stock and FO. Most of the stuff, models, sprites, guis, ect..., will work in both games with no changes. Its just odf, bzn, and cfg files that would need to be different from 1 install to the other.

Just to add Starfox, I've got a few Clone Wars models sitting around on my Harddrive. I'm in a modelling mood and have got some free time this weekend, so anything that ever gets done you're welcome to use. :)

Need to go through, but I'll post them in my thread anyways :)

This is not entirely true.:D You can make them both autonomous, and controllable. And, you can get past the limitation of too many fighters by adding in a fleet cap on all fighters or limit them by their carrier.

i.e. a ship can only support N number of fighters at a time, N being specified by the launching replace-weapon. This works better if your fighters are autonomous, but will work to a degree if you want to control them too.

If I get a chance this weekend, and I should, I"ll email you what I made and some ideas on different fighter systems.

I missed something important: I want a CANON Star Wars mod. No Interdictors in Clone Wars and no ARC-170s in GCW.

Cool please do

I've got a few Clone Wars models sitting around on my Harddrive.

I'll let you know. I have Evil Jedi's stuff from HW2 and I'm trying to get the extra models in his Sins mod plus I have all the XWAUP ships and the SFC/BC stuff. I haven't hit up Major Paine for any EAW/FOC stuff yet.

Generally, I've always put Star Wars down to two eras (which, lets be honest, there are only two of). You've got the first three films (newer ones) and then the latter three films (old ones). Each set has two main sides, though there are bounty hunters and such throughout.

I think it would be nice to mix it up a little; try maybe three factions?

The Rebel Alliance
The Galactic Empire
The Droid Army (a collection of droids and pirates)

Just a thought. :)

You left a few era out:
The Ancient Sith War era, the Old Republic era (KotOR), the New Republic era, the Yuuzhan Vong era, the Legacy era etc.
It would be hard to make TCs for them indeed, because there are no reference models around, but with some work, any of them could be a theme of an Armada II TC.

Honestly, I would stick to the GCW and the Clone wars. Mainly because of how I view canon, but also because I like to get things right, and you can only know that you got it right when you have something like a trilogy of movies to compare it to. I don't really like making a mod after a string of books because every series of books tells the story a little different. My opinion anyway.

Maybe it's just me, but... I've never been a fan of non-canon books. I loves me the book version of any canon movie, they sometimes mix in little non-canon (or semi-canon) details that are just small things that don't change the story in any way but make it nicer.
Most of the "official" or "expanded universe" books, though, (not just SW) seem to suffer from their author's hybris.

"In MY book the Empire has a new Mega-Super-Laser!"
"But d00d, they already had one in MY book!"
"So what? MY Mega-Super-Laser is much more powerful than YOURS! And they also have a new Super Star Destroyer with 9000 turbolasers!"
"Can't you do something new, d00d? The SSD in MY book had OVER 9000 turbolasers!"

I'd hate to make a mod from THAT material.

exactly. I won't say that I haven't read and enjoyed some of the books when I was younger, but I don't consider them canon.

My favorite series(though it was a long time ago) was always the Jedi Apprentice books that focused on Obi-Wan's training under Qui-Gon Jinn but even then, alot of the personality and characters the author added in were definitely contrary to what we saw in the movies.

Either way, I would stick to the two wars because you have the most material to work with.

And I would have to agree with Aerilon. Though I might split the galactic empire into the Republic and the Empire, so you can have two era's and 4 races.

CIS
Republic
Empire
Rebels

and then maybe some bounty hunter npc's. Or... maybe even some other special weapons that allow you to enlist a bounty hunter... Infact, I even thought of a way to do it!

If you use warpin, you could have a weapon that you could use(for a price) that would warp in a random bounty hunter that you could use for say, 5 minutes. after then, it would warp back out. if it was destroyed in those 5 minutes, you would be charged a fee(already works that way with warpin) and you could make it so that the waprin was instant like Hyperspace rather that the way it happens in FO currently. The bounty hunters could have some cool incredibly OP weapons or tactics they could use, like basically a hero ship, but you could balance it by having the time limit.

I like that a lot actually. The AI could even use it.:yum:

To further this idea, you could do Jedi like this. Have Jedi in their standard starfighters, but give them a lot of aoe weapons that would make all your ships and fighters better. make them deadly accurate against other fighters ect. They could warpin the same way as bounty hunters, but they wouldn't cost you at first, and would really cost you if they died.

Actually most of the books arn't like that. Only once did a reall Death Star like weapon come up in Darksaber. Most of the stories center around the ebb and flow of the war between the Empire and the New Republic. Executor SSDs are the super weapon of choice.

As for factions I'm thinking

CIS
Republic
Empire
Rebels

and maybe

New Republic
Imperial Rimnant
Vong

As for the other eras I personally think they lack enough information to do full factions for a game like A2.

Have to think about that one for later; already have a tone of work infront of me as it is:p

If you supplied me with a couple models(e.g. slave one and at least one other bounty hunter ship, + at least 1 ship for each of the other categories) I would be willing to do the rest.

I also had an idea about doing these as "hero ships" where you could even choose whether you wanted to call a jedi, a bounty hunter, or a sith, no matter what race you were. Here's how I would do it:

Jedi - in jedi Starfighter with a random paintjob, blue glow around the entire ship, would have automated weapons that increased the dodge rate of nearby ships, made them take less damage, and maybe even charged their health/special energy(depending on what you used it for)
Jedi would stay until they died. They would cost you nothing unless they died, in which case you would be charged a serious sum of X resource.

Bounty hunter/pirate -in a random ship marked as a pirate or bountyhunter, green glow around fighter, special weapons would be for taking over ships/ sabotaging a single ship or station and salvage. Bounty hunters would cost you half the full price up front, but would cost double if they were destroyed. You would also have the option of sending them home for the other half of the original full price meaning their job is done.

Alternatively, you pay up front, and the ship leaves after a set time period, and only costs you more if they die.

Sith - not quite sure... some kind of sith fighter I suppose, red glow around ship, special weapons would be purely offensive, maybe increasing the damage of your ships, causing aoe damage to a specific area, ect. Sith would cost a very small sum every 30 seconds or so. You could have the option to 'fire' the sith, but it would not jump away. Instead, it would become AI controlled and turn on you, and you would have to blow it up.:D

If you only wanted rebels and republic to be able to call jedi, and only CIS and Empire to call sith, I would decrease the cost of the death of a jedi, and remove the turning on you feature from the Sith. I kinda like being able to choose darkside or lightside, nomatter what race you are, but that would ultimately be up to you. I assume bounty hunters are a universal resource utilized by all sides at some point.

And btw, all of this is completely possible. None of it is theoretical as most of it is already done in FO in some way or another.

Seriously, I can do this fairly easily. it might take a couple weeks, but I could definitely get it done if you want it.

Guys, you're thinking like a real Trekker :D

If you type starwarsDOTwikiaDOTcom (NOT EXTERNAL LINK :p), everything you'll find there is canon. Unlike Star Trek, anything which is released under the name of Star Wars is revisited by George Lucas and his staff before release, and it can only be released if it fits into everything we knew about Star Wars earlier.

You won't find any Star Wars material, in the stores which is not fits perfectly into the Star Wars canon. Well, you'll find a few, but they're uncommon and the authors always had to face with a really serious lawsuit by Lucas
That's one of the main differences between ST and SW.

Every series (Clone Wars), every book (Thrawn-trilogy) and every comic (Legacy, Old Sith Wars etc.) fits into a gigantic history and philosophy called together the Star Wars Universe. Isn't this beautiful? :)

Sorry, I just had to clarify this one.

To the topic: If anyone wants to start a Star Wars mod, he has to check EAWfiles first. Hey have almost every available SW model.
ANd I'd drop the Sith fighter idea. There are no Siths since the Great Sith War. If you want to have a dark side pilot expert, there are many other choices, for instance the Sigma Squadron (elite TIE squadron, they usually flew TIE-Ins, TIE-Advs and TIE-Defs).

If you need any knowledge help, just let me know. As far as I know, I'm the most fanatic SW fan around here

just because lucas says its canon doesn't mean I have to accept it.

"Han shot first!"

And the point about there being no sith is kinda silly too considering darth vader, darth sidous, darth tyranus, darth maul, ect. And there are plenty of sith in EU comics and stuff too.

I consider any person who is in control of the Darkside of the force and uses it against the good side a sith.
I suppose if you only consider a sith one of those guys in the war, then what I mean by 'sith' is dark jedi.

Either way, it would work.

//edit, oh and you can link to wikis.

The Sith where a race strong in the force and steaped in the Darkside. First contact with the Sith caused the Great schisum and the 1st Jedi Civil War. Today the Sith race is extinct but their teachings live on. Now all Sith are Dark Jedi but not all Dark Jedi are Sith.

Because of the combination of games, comics, books and movies the time period from 40BY to around 50AY is the best known and most fleshed out. We have several workable factions and full scale battle fleets. I don't much care about cannon as I do about practicality. Case in point Death Stars, totaly cannon, completely impractal in this kind of mod. Don't want em; cant use em. :p
