Hello:
And those are very cool pics! I wish I can take pics like those ones, hehehe.
I am very happy that you will release that Battlestar, it should make quite an addition to any BSG fan.
... or almost any
.
Hah! I can always count on MSFC's resident Cylon! Perhaps we should change your username to, ahem, "Number Thirteen"
That is indeed a very well done Pegasus. For Parallels EAS_Intrepid did a scratch built Pegasus and used Coxxon's textures to texture her, I am planning on releasing it at some point, but it doesn't look as stunning as these. I might send it to you first to get the Thunderfoot treatment before releasing it. It would give people options to have two Pegasus' or one hero and none fleet.
In any case these screenshots look stunning as does the model. You and Dan should be congratulated.
+rep for you.
The technique I have developed for tweaking textures is actually pretty basic. Nearly all the textures done for any A2 custom ship are far too bright. the brightness obscures a great many details and can make a great model and texture set look cartoonish. Here are the settings I use to get what a lot of people refer to as "the
Akira Treatment". I call it this because MAP's BIVR
Akira was the first ship I tried it out on.
1) Reduce the gamma on a texture by at least 15%. Shadows are what give a two dimensional object the illusion of mass and depth. If these are minimized the object looks flat.
2) Sharpen the details on the texture by at least 25%. If your graphics application has a setting for preserving the original colours, click on 'Yes'. I use a threshold setting of 64 to prevent the edge lines from taking over.
The original model was something Dan1025 gave all the members of Starbase34. TSK and I were discussing how to best get her into the game. I got started on making everything else because at the time I wanted some BSG content available on the other A2 site. Because of an incredibly stupid April Fool's joke by someone about a mod cancellation which displayed poor judgement, poor leadership skills, and extremely bad timimg, I disassociated myself(i.e. got myself banned from there by my own choice) from Starbase 34 before I finished everything. I
loathe, detest, and despise April Fool's jokes and people who play them. When I was done with her, I sent TSK the completed ship for release as a Starbase 34 Project, since nearly everyone there had contributed at least a little something. And nothing ever came of it. He seemed skittish at the time about releasing it as an SB34 project. Probably because I would be associated with it and I was no longer part of the SB34 crew. As far as I know, the ship was supposed to be in the next SB34 project. I have heard nothing else and the ship has never appeared anywhere. I found the file on one of my thumb drives the other day and thought, "Not bad, but I can update everything to the current BSG stuff I have and make it better." I contacted Dan1025 about releasing her here at MSFC and he agreed. Mike McKeon and I have a standing agreement for free useage with credit for anything we've done for BSG in A2 so the
Vipers and
Raptors included are his. Mike has also done a version of
Pegasus and a few other BSG ships which are pretty good. I'll need to go through the file to ensure the only content included is Dan's, Mike's, or mine. After this, which should not take too long, I can send it in. I have included a set of ingame voiceovers for both the battlestar and the fighters which I recorded. They are just as cheesy as the stock A2 ones, lol.
