I second the NW request. I still use that little beauty in-game.

And I like this Neptune design. As I said earlier about the Yorktown, I hope you'll give some consideration to releasing a more ENT-style texture for this one, too. I realize what you're trying to do with your own view of the Trek universe, of course.

This ship is yet another reason why I truly love this guy! He always does something unexpected when he models. There are now enough ENT based ships to put together an ENT based full race for A2. Be kinda neat to see, wouldn't it?

Indeed it would. And it seems we're getting one, after a fashion :)

Very nice work on the Nepture, Majestic. It looks such a simple design, but there's an elegance about it that I think is only enhanced by the low poly count.

A question about the Yorktown textures though, how did you do the phase cannon ports?

The only reason I ask is that I love the way the legacy textures do the torpedo tubes; and would love to replicate them. Those phase cannon ports seem the closest to a circular version, and if I can replicate it then all I need to do is elongate them and problem solved.

Yeah it is a simple design, however not so simple to model. I plan to do some more touches to the secondard hull. The secondary hull is technically not canon to the model, I simplified it however I may look at giving the official one another crack I don't know yet.

Well for the textures what I do is created a circle, the colour I want, or put a colour overlay blending option on the white circle. Then I down a down bevel and lower the distance and size to be fairly small. Yeah that's it. It's the same process with the torpedo tubes, just a slight change with the blending options and the circle is more an oval than a circle. I hope I haven't lost you. Oh and I do this in Photoshop but I see no reason why it wouldn't work with Paint Shop Pro, as I have that program too and it seems to have all the same abilities as PS with a few more added on for good measure. :)

I always liked the Neptune design, though I can't put my finger on a reason why lol. You've certainly done a great job on her so far

I am the same, I have always had a fondness for this design and the Delta Warp. It's the sme really that these two weren't included in Legacy considering both are canon to the series of ENT.

Looks great man, good work! I missed a few ENT episodes, so I didn't know about this one. And they haven't rerun the show yet. Aaargh!

Looks wonderful Majestic. I too can't wait to see her completed.

Looks good mate :) .

Thank you all, I wasn't expecting this much activity in the thread, I was thinking when I was booting up the PC that maybe two or three posts.

Can't wait to see this beauty textured. Good to know you'll be adding your personal touches to the design. The original was a quickly made kitbash with some loose ends if you know what I mean. :D

Yeah I have seen other models of this on SFC sites and indeed it was done roughly but some where also done very well. I am actually working off a variety of sources for this one including some official renders of the ship bt Doug Dexter and some high poly fan made models.

With reference to the fleet topic, any chance we'll see a return of your nw class? Love that little ship

I second the NW request. I still use that little beauty in-game.

I may do one just for you two, after I get the NX and a couple other designs done first. Considering it's a kitbash means I won't have to make new textures either. :)

And I like this Neptune design. As I said earlier about the Yorktown, I hope you'll give some consideration to releasing a more ENT-style texture for this one, too. I realize what you're trying to do with your own view of the Trek universe, of course.

What are your views about a more ENT style textures? More brown or something? The reason I ask is I am not following as I have been attempting to duplicate the ENT style of texturing just not going brown as I tried brown and it wasn't working for me.

This ship is yet another reason why I truly love this guy! He always does something unexpected when he models. There are now enough ENT based ships to put together an ENT based full race for A2. Be kinda neat to see, wouldn't it?

Indeed it would. And it seems we're getting one, after a fashion :)

I'm loved, they really love me! :lol2:

Shhhh.... Don't give away state secrets Knight. My plan is to eventually make a ENT mod, each race having about 6 to 8 combat ships, about four stations and two to three non-combat vessels. Obviously I am starting with Earth, then I plan on doing the Andorians, Vulcans and Tellerites so the Coalition is complete. After which I'll do the Klingons, Romulans, Suliban and Xindi.

I am just prodding away one ship at a time and worry about the others later, I'll just switch between my three projects (YY and BSG being the other two) as my interest and motivation shifts.

Now below are some updated shots of the Neptune as it appeared last night when I shut down the PC and as it is now. :)

Brown? I don't really think 'brown' is the tone I see when I look at the NX class. I tend to describe it as a metallic tone-- while ENT-type hulls are a deep metallic shade, reflective and very deep in tone, they're still grey. The closest I can come to a text explanation is to call it "gunmetal". The closer to a Constitution class starship it gets in terms of starship evolution and development, the less pronounced the sheen and finer level of hull details, leaning more towards "titanium white" with a touch of grey. If that makes no sense, I am thoroughly unsurprised. :D

I always loved that ship.

Any plans of doing the Poseidon or that other destroyer thing? I really liked the ent ships seen in Legacy.

If I am following you right that might be above my abilities. I have have to look into recuriting Jet from some work.

The Poseidon is in the downloads section already, I ported that one from LGY. However I do plan to make some fan design ones, that look better than the LGY versions.

However what other destroyer thing are you refering to the Minutemen class, the one that has a sphere like saucer?

Yeah, minuteman. that was it. Not super fond of the design, but it was a good ship. just because it wasn't my favorite doesn't mean it couldn't be done, or even improved upon. it was OK, but not the best.

I didn't realize you had already ported the other one either:sweat:.

 I'll forgive you for that one. Yeah I converted the Posideon along with the Yorktown and Daedalus sometime back. :)

As for the minuteman I have the Legacy model thanks to Terradhyne converting it and I am considering using it and making some mesh changes to turn it into a construction ship. I don't like the idea of it being a destroyer personally.

No argument from me here, sweet update! But one question, was it a conscious design to omit the extra tailfins?

I also like the idea of making the Minuteman a construction tug. It's shape was far from a destroyer anyway. The Warp Delta could have been a far better choice!

Yeah I left them off for purpose, why would a ship in space need fins? It's not like it flys through the air or underwater amd no other design has them.

I agree about the Minuteman, I plan on doing the Delta Warp, which I call the Charger class in my own little universe, as the Earth destroyer.

"Why would a ship in space need fins?" Maybe for cooling system purposes? Naah, this is Star Trek we're talkin' 'bout here. Some CGI intern put 'em there because Berman told him to, lol.

The Rule Of Cool, my friend.

The limit of the willing suspension of disbelief for a given element is directly proportional to its degree of coolness.

I think fins gives a ship an "illusion" of aerodynamics. Since there is no "air" in space, it shows one of 2 things possible -

A.) The ship is designed to enter the atmosphere of planets, thus the fins act to stabilize the ship...

Or

B.) The Director had it added to "ah" and "wow" the audience with unrealistic eye-candy, thinking the viewers are too dumb to know science fact from science fiction.

I go with option B!

So Maj, I don't see the need for fins. But if you do use them, stick with option A to explain them.:)

Well in VOY, the Intrepid class could enter the atmosphere and it was a big thing, pretty advanced and all that. So I very much doubt a ship in the 22nd century could enter the atmosphere. So the fins will be staying off.

Thanks for the imput however everyone. :)

Hey, the Delta Flyer almost had fins, remember?

Everything is cooler with fins. Dolphins, for instance. Without fins they're just funny looking.

My apologies, I shall endeavour to keep state secrets secret lol.

Liking the new ship, she looks like one from legacy, I forget the name. She's coming along nicely though.

With regards to the nw class, will you remodel or use the existing model ?

Thanks for the imput however everyone. :)

I may point out an episode in season 4 in ENT where the NX-01 entered the atmosphere, so I believe all Starfleet vessels can enter the atmospshere, though I may be wrong. :)

PS.: In the new movie we also saw starships built on the planet.

Edit: Looking good, Majestic.

I think the big deal about the Intrepid was that it was capable of landing on the planetary surface, unlike other ships. (The Defiant also had landing gear, but AFAIK it was never used.)

She's the Minuteman class, just re-arranged and some drastic mesh changes.

I'll probably re-do the model, give it a higher poly count. I'll kitbash it from either the Poseidon class or the NX class that I am doing. I may even make a few changes to make it look better as well.

I really like the changes you've made on the Minuteman, good to see you've bothered to get rid of all the unnecessary pylons of the original. Now you've really made her look one step closer to the Daedalus.

And on the subject of non-combat ships, any chance you'll get around modelling the Sarajevo-type? That would make a pretty nice colony or cargo ship.

The ships I am planning on doing is a freighter (a fan made tanker actually) and 3 cargo freighters (two seen in the series [aka ECS Fortune and ECS Horizon] and a fan made design known as the L class).

I am actually considering after the Delta Warp to take a crack at one of the cargo freighters. Reason for three is well I like the ENT style freighters as they make sense and well I can give the different freighters different stats so a player can decide whether they want a cheap and slow freighter or a expensive and fast one that can hold more cargo as well.

Also eye candy is always a nice thing. :lol2:

I will however not be doing the Sarajevo-type, as I feel it's a non-human design as it looks nothing like the other Earth ships we have seen. As anyone whom knows me knows, I try to be consistent with my designs and fleets. For the Minuteman I attempted to keep the pylon that came off the back of the saucer/sphere but I couldn't get it to work so I dumped it.

This is so cool, we need more ENT ships :)
Are you planning on doing other races too, or just fed? Would be cool to see some romulans or perhaps a couple more ships using the Klingon ENT design style (not the random D7 that popped up though lol). If I knew how the buggery to export from blender I'd pick up modelling for Armada2 and see if I could turn out a half decent romulan design myself >.<

Yes I am planning on doing more races, but I am planning on doing the Earthers first then I'll progress to some of the other races. I'll probably do the Vulcan's, Andorian's, Tellerate's or Suliban next. :)

An update, I have started to texture another ship, I'll post screenshots when I have progressed some more on it. I only started this last night and only have the pylons and top of the saucer done. I used the textures from the Yorktown's nacelles to make things easier and faster. :)

Interested in seeing those (assuming you do some). She's a solid design, so she doesn't need much if anything. The only thing i might suggest if you do make changes, is add a slight incline on the roll bar, make it slightly more miranda like (at the moment, it goes straight across). beyond that is just slightly more polies to add to the beauty.

In my game, her history is that she was the first Starfleet ship to be provided with true shields, rather than hull polarisation, making her a key part of Federation history :)

Is she the new mystery ship your working on?

No she isn't but she is on my list.

Yes I plan to make the model smoother, I have been looking at getting my ships around the 3k mark lately, as I have been working with Fleet-Ops these days and with the updates in graphics they have done, they can handle higher poly models. I won't be going to FO's extremes of 5000 poly models, but I will be going to the 3k mark with a lot of the ships.

So you want the roll-bar included on her? Any other requests for the NW class, I may as well do as much as possible to get her to your liking this time around. Make the fan's happy.
