Just a little something I started today, still a great deal of work to do on it, however it has progressed far enough along to give a sneak to the MSFC Community.

It's the Legacy Yorktown class Battleship, now a Battlecruiser/Carrier variant. Basically the entire secondary hull is a hangar and associated support system with only the deflector and two rear torpedo launchers not associated with fighters. Everything else including engineering is housed in the saucer section and the ship is roughly the size of the original Constitution class of some 300 meters in length.

She's part of my own universe re-make of Enterprise, as those of you whom visit my DeviantART account would known from my logos. Basically the Federation was never formed in this timeline, due to the impact of the Temporal Cold War and really how the ENT series should have followed rather that that quick few episodes at the end of the series which were some of the worst in the entire series.

I the Federation's place is the Coalition of several species working together with with no central organised military or government like the Federation has. So they continued building their own space fleet. The Coalition is basically just a big alliance for mutual co-operation and defence. Oh yeah the Enterprise class (NX) in this universe isn't the Akiraprise as seen in the series. That's on my list to do when I feel like it. This is also a side project to do when I burn myself out of need a break from YY.

I am only going on memory for this one, but I believe that the Federation Charter signing at the end of the series was set five years after the events of Terra Prime so that would put it roughly in the traditional timeframe of 2161, the last episode does mention that the NX-01 was in service for a total of 10 years since she was launched in 2151. From about 2155 - 2161 the Coalition of Planets existed, I'm just courious is this the timeframe your acting in or is it really different (Alternate Reality)?

It's ten years after the Enterprise NX-01 embarked on its mission and the crew is heading back to Earth for the decommission of Enterprise and the signing of the Federation charter. Archer is hard at work on a speech for this special moment, but he is interrupted by a hail from his old friend Shran. Shran, who is no longer with the Andorian Imperial Guard, tells Archer he needs Enterprise's help — his daughter has been kidnapped by some shady former associates. T'Pol doesn't trust the Andorian and thinks aiding him will make Enterprise late for the signing of the charter. Archer, however, is determined to help Shran.

I like the changes, the long secondary hull seems ideal for fighters . I, personally, would remove the rear-facing torpedoes however and have them in the saucer. You could fit another couple of fighters when you take those out.

Colouring is nice as well. Are you thinking of doing an NX in the same scheme?

I really couldn't care much for what the producers of that show thought or did, apart from the art department and Mandy Coto (I think that's his name), the rest didn't have a clue what they were doing, basically the blind leading the stupid. The series had so much potential and they blew it, so badly that it was till 2009 that we got taste of some new Star Trek again. I miss not having a Star Trek series to pine for at the end of each year. Basically apart from V really there is no sci-fi series in current production. Which is sad.

Thanks, I already have two aft torpedo tubes in the saucer and needed one more to match up with the front, for the only reason other than the A2 engine and coding the weapons in.

Yeah I do plan on doing the Enterprise class (aka NX class). However it won't be the one in the series, an alternative version while still vaguely resembling the one in the series but looking a lot better. But yes I do plan to do all my Earth designs in the same style. However I think I'll be doing a few other designs before I attack the NX. I am not in much of a modelling mood recently, but a texturing one instead.

Lovely work on the ship mate, the detailing is really great! Certainly nothing wrong with going about your personal interpretation of Trek history. If you can come up with convincing reasons, over-analyzed "canon" and the cluster of "official material" ain't worth jack! :p I've recently come to terms that Trek doesn't always have to be such a rigid and cohesive continuity. Anybody heard of the multiverse theory? It certainly applies here.

Can't wait for more stuff Maj, this is looking real good! The texturing is a little bland at the moment and it could use some details but you've nailed a solid ENT look.

Multi-verse, sure it's what initially drew me to Sliders, love that show.

Onto the Yorky, and Trek. Yeah I agree about the canon theory of Trek. It's a reason why ENT wasn't widely accepted and why many have issues with Star Trek XI. I was not one of them at all. I did enjoy ENT (even though the guys whom ran it were hopeless and really it could have been done much better) and I really enjoyed XI, even if I had a few small issues, which luckily I could ignore.

Yeah I know what you mean about looking bland, I do plan to make it a little less bland. I have also been experimenting with a new registry style. Rather than having it on a texture like I have done previously I have been trying to duplicate the Legacy style. It works in MS3D thus far, however I have yet to try it in-game and I have a feeling that it won't be successful. I don't like being negative however I know the A2 engine pretty well, considering I've been playing with it for a decade.

However I'll be sure to give it a go once I finish the texturing. Some images of the registry applied.

I thought of using that as well (the legacy style), I never actually got around to trying it though. The _!noalpha tag should (in theory) make it work.

Jetfreak, I took your observations into account and tried to bring the aztec pattern up a little, as well as giving it a bevel. Check out the screenshots/attachments below.

Yeah, I am looking forward to giving it a shot. :)

Much better buddy! ENT ships were always coarsely detailed with a distinctive metallic look. I'd suggest making them stand out a bit more though. I'd also add some black coloring on the side "clips" and adding some running lights.

I also like the registry! It simply fell into place!

Yorktown = NY-01

Awesome! Though to be honest I think the ENT and TOS font was called "Airborne".

Thank you, I am glad all of you like it. :)

Thanks, yeah I decided that if I am going to use it in-game it will be for FO and considering they seem to be able to run higher poly models than stock A2 thanks to updating the graphic code and software to something more modern I could get away with a higher poly ship and the Legacy version was prefect for this.

Thanks, I'll see about making them stand out a tad more. I am trying to get a balance between detail and my personal taste.

Yeah I decided unlike the Feds, that Earth would use different a registry structure as seen in the NX-01, NX-02 for the NX class and NV-01 for the Intrepid seen in a few episodes like Twilight. So I gave each class a different registry like NY for the Yorktown, NW for a Corvette style ship I eventually plan to build, NZ for the Challenger/Delta Warp, NC for the Daedalus etc.

Awesome! Though to be honest I think the ENT and TOS font was called "Airborne".

Do you by chance have this font?

Not a problem, fonts attached! I've included four variants for good measure!!!

Btw, it also struck me that the ships have a nice blend of the clean TOS look. :)

Thank you Jet, I really appreciate these. :)

Thanks Fireball I am glad you like her, I have sure put a fair bit of work into her and I am far from finished yet. I am using her as my guinea pig to get the feel for the Earth ENT ships right. Thankfully once I have got it down and finalised it will be much easer to produce the textures for the other ships.

I have done some more work on the Yorktown texture just minor things really, like making the deflector dish's aztec circular to match the contour of the dish. I have also added some more details to the nacelles, as well as playing around with the bussard collectors. I haven't found a texture for it that I like yet and have been experimenting with various styles for it. You'll also notice a lot of little circles on the saucer, those are phase cannon ports, where the phase cannons come out from. I also plan to have the pulse phase cannons seen in the first ENT episode over the more phaser like weapons seen later on in the following episodes. My aim is to get a more primitive, less advanced feel to it, rather than how the series evolved to a almost TOS tech by the end of the series.

Oh and I have also started modelling the Neptune class cruiser, I have only done the saucer thus far so not much to show off, so I'll wait till I get further along in the modelling aspect of the design.

However here are some updated images of the Yorktown. :)

Thanks, I haven't done any work on her today, as after I made that previous post I needed to do a re-install as my Vista install has had a nasty ad-ware virus for about a week or two now and it finally got the better of me. Pop-ups every few minutes can get real annoying. I was going to do it last week or the week before but the heat wave of 50 degrees we got stopped me for obvious reasons, I didn't want a cooked PC. I had already partitioned the drive as when I got my 2TB drive about 5 months back now, I had planned my 500GB to become by boot-drive with two versions of windows. However I only installed Vista on it and never got around to using the second partition for another operating system.

Well I am now once again running Windows 7 (Ultimate) and plan to re-format and re-install Vista (Ultimate) over the next week or two. I have finally gotten all my programs re-installed on this new system but none of my games yet.

However I am set-up again more or less to continue my work on these ships. :)

The Neptune class cruiser as seen in the ENT episodes Expanse and Twilight. Basically it's the predcessor (in my opinion) to the Enterprise class, having a speed of only warp 3 however later refitted with a warp 5 engine at the start of the conflict with the Romulans.

While the Enterprise can be considered a heavy cruiser, the Neptune is a light cruiser in comparision. I still have a fair bit left to do on this one and it is my first model in quite sometime. I am kind of regretting not putting more poly's into the saucer now, however considering the fact that the saucer took me the most time, I am not going to go back and re-do it, at least not this time. I may do a revamp at a later date if I feel the need.

She stands currently at just over 1700 poly's.

Thanks, no I won't be, I'll be making my own textures as I have for the Yorktown. Making the fleet uniform and all that. But I'll be attempting to get them as close to the actual show model that Doug Dexter did as possible.

She is now basically complete, more or less in the modelling department. I have finished modelling in the bridge and other mesh sections that I hadn't done when I updated the thread. I'll probably be starting on her textures tomorrow or the day after. I do however want to complete the Yorktown textures beforehand.

Very nice work on the Nepture, Majestic. It looks such a simple design, but there's an elegance about it that I think is only enhanced by the low poly count.

A question about the Yorktown textures though, how did you do the phase cannon ports?

The only reason I ask is that I love the way the legacy textures do the torpedo tubes; and would love to replicate them. Those phase cannon ports seem the closest to a circular version, and if I can replicate it then all I need to do is elongate them and problem solved.

Can't wait to see this beauty textured. Good to know you'll be adding your personal touches to the design. The original was a quickly made kitbash with some loose ends if you know what I mean. :D
