just putting this out there because it really seems that words like Research and Common sense mean absolutely nothing these days in Star Trek. I mean really, has anyone even read Worf's Bio? If they did they will notice that Worf will probably never be asked to command a Starship in Starfleet. Yet Continuity means nothing so we will bounce it around like a football until we do it anyway because who pays attention to what happened before, like how Scotty said "The Technology to recrystallize Dilithium Crystals is not even available in the 23rd Century...yet on a Short Trek that turns out to be a falsehood (the episode is so stupid and flighty, I don't want to remember it). So my point is they don't even pay attention to what's in front of your face, I guess you can fail history...unless making up a new one I guess. I have misgivings for Star Trek Picard, Worf being his XO is not one. Even the cut ending of Nemesis...They knew that Worf could not be the XO. Yet I'm the only TrekkieGal to remember the episode (DS9-Change of Heart), and I swear Continuity is gone because these idiots will probably make him Captain just to spite it all.
If you have read the books you'll know they covered the Change of Heart situation in it. Worf actually becomes a great Xo when Starfleet needed them the most. If you haven't I recommend you read them so much better than a lot of the so called official stuff Trek puts out.

literally everything they've put out for Picard has only made me more and more excited for it's arrival. Sorry to y'all that won't, but I honestly could not be happier this is happening.

Plus they showed the Enterprise-D. Hologram, flashbacks, what the heck ever, she made an appearance and that's all I need, they can crossover with Orville or Firefly for all I care, this is all that matters to me.

As far as Worf is concerned, I don't see him ever being offered the seat. Star Trek Nemesis kind of made that clear in deleted scenes, as well if we really have to do this First, Second officer thing, I would go with Geordi before Worf (he always outranked him), now unless someone is lost in heated combat...THEN I will give it to you, but the continuity of Star Trek is in the wind as it were, so none of this makes much sense to speculate who is the Captain of the Enterprise, seeing none of this is canon, to begin with.

I have nothing against books, it's the Continuity of what Canon there was, everybody wants to re-write it, so I can actually give two cents of if Worf is a Captain, all I said it is Not Likely he is. Seeing how his son in the KDF, and a bunch of other house of Mogh crap going on, losing two mates...I'd just be an Ambassador and call it a day.

Well in all fairness, if continuity were actually being followed: Data would be dead, Worf would be an Ambassador if not retired on Qo'nos and Picard would have a mental degenerative disease which I don't recall was cured at any point.

But then Star Trek continuity is as fluid as what washes up on the shore of a beach. They couldn't even keep proper continuity within one show, much less from one show to another, far less so an entire series of shows.

It's quite possible that several elements of the "future" where Picard was suffering from this were invented by Q.

Also, unless I missed something, nowhere in the previews did it say Picard wasn't suffering from it...

This is true. In the same fashion, I don't recall anything stating that those elements were invented by Q either.

You are also correct that the previews have not implicitly shown Picard to have escaped suffering that disease, however, given what the previews have shown, Picard seems quite healthy and lucid in just about every scene that has been shown to this point.

Given that the time period for this series and the time period for the future shown in "All Good Things..." more or less overlaps, it is a reasonable deduction to make that Picard is not suffering from the disease which featured in the episode and had Picard in constant states of fatigue and confusion, among other things, most of the time.

@ Candace, I don't mind Star Wars like repair droids on ships, especially for vacuum repairs, but it is sort of out of nowhere that Discovery placed them on their ships when at no other point in time throughout history before or after were these apparently used.

Have people seen the first ep yet?

If not DO NOT READ BELOW!!!!! (this forum needs a spoiler button lol)

I loved the opening shot with the camera closing in on the Enterprise D (which had some interesting design modifications) and going through the window into to the room.. the kind of shot you always wanted to see as a kid watching TNG but knew they couldn't really do effectively (well not without spending some heavy money lol, which is kind of ironic considering the 60s failed trek pilot sort of has a camera through bridge window shot)..

I enjoyed the whole episode but I feel like I can't quite give judgement yet. I need to know more about what's going on and need to see how things pan out story wise.

Also the zero mention of Lal and Lore seems a bit strange in a world where the daystrom institute desperately wanted to replicate Data. I mean what happened to their parts after they were disassembled? B4 was in a drawer so where's the Lal and Lore drawers haha?

First thought was.. did the writers forget them?.. but that seems unlikely consider they brought Hugh back which means they clearly remember Descent 1 & 2 which Lore was in. The whole Daughter 2.0 storyline suggests the Lal episode is something they know too. Plus Frakes directed that one and he's involved in Picard.

The forum does have spoiler tags, just press the insert button to the right of the emoticon/image/video buttons. ~Terra

shot from visible in the remastered version of the TOS episode "Charlie X episode of 2007 which was a cargo drone ship a full Droid / automated ship ( canon )

as to Picard medical conditions

Irumodic Syndrome was a degenerative neurological disorder that caused deterioration of the synaptic pathways. The condition caused confusion, delusions, and eventually death. It could take several years to develop and several more before it proved deadly. The treatment of choice in 2370 was peridaxon, though this only relieved the symptoms. Genetic testing could determine if a person may develop Irumodic Syndrome in later life, but not all persons who tested positive would develop the condition.

In the anti-time future, Jean-Luc Picard had contracted advanced Irumodic Syndrome. His condition caused many of his friends to doubt his claims that he has been shifting back and forth through time. In this time period, no cure was known to exist.

In the anti-time present, while seeking evidence that he could already have Irumodic Syndrome, Picard was informed by Beverly Crusher that while he did not have the disease itself, he did have a small structural defect in his parietal lobe that could lead to a number of neurological disorders, including Irumodic Syndrome. The defect was so small it required a level 4 neurographic scan to be located. (TNG: "All Good Things...")

It was caused by Q allowing him to jump back and forth in time and was not true Irumodic Syndrome but a misdiagnosis of side effect of the time jumping.

The canon is vast and is subject to change it's a fictional story after all not a hard history and we are not a Q can't know everything about everything.

Besides you would not want to it be absolutely boring just ask this guy ;)

Anyone notice they got rid of the Hobus plot line from the comics? Originally, the star that went nova was named Hobus and was about 500ly from Romulus, which created a massive number of questions, like how in the world it could possibly have threatened Romulus itself. The explanations put forth so far have generally been along the lines of, "something something Subspace something something Iconians something something." Instead, PIC is working off of the premise that the star that went nova was the one Romulus orbited, which they can do because the movies never actually said which star went nova. Why the star went nova prematurely still hasn't been explained, but at least there's no longer an FTL shockwave.

"but at least there's no longer an FTL shockwave." this is the point, and if is the romulan sun which explode to a supernova, you can observe the change of the star in a large time scale. And now we have star trek, with subspace sensors, which can look faster then light speed and the romulans have not enought time to prepare?????

Here are a few things we can consider in the timeline. It may not be that the Romulans didn't have time to prepare but did not have the resources to do so. In Nemesis, the conversation between Donatra and the Romulan Admiral infers that a large portion of the Romulan Armada was decimated by Shinzon on his way to Romulus. So one could postulate that only after heavy losses, the Romulan navy decided to back Shinzon's coup instead of facing destruction. After Shinzon's defeat, there would have be a power vacuum. There could have been massive amount of infighting that would have further depleted resources. So with this, when the star goes nova, there just isn't enough to evacuate everyone. In steps the Federation with an offer to help. But while the Federation is assembling the rescue armada, tragedy strikes at it's own doorstep. I still don't understand why that would cause the council to abandon the Romulans unless they felt the risk of civilian lives was too great. Considering all of this, I can see why Nero went stark raving mad and why Picard left.

Given the the Romulans use of Trilithium it could have been a rogue Romulan or even Reman revenge group that cause it. Poisoning the well and salting the fields tactics

It would be possible that said group on hand had enough to cause the star to go unstable with no dispersal method unlike in the cases of Amargosa or Veridian where it was and weaponized.

Also, there is nothing saying that the supernova and attack on Mars isn't unrelated. If there is either an existing power wanting to make a name for itself or an ancient power wanting to re-emerge, what better way to do so than to destabilize the region. As powerful as the Federation is, the Romulan Star Empire and Klingons are the bigger threats as they are quicker to action.

We really need to wait and see how it all plays out.

Naturally it's region locked though urgh.

Episode 2 of Picard seen. Glad it explains some of the mysteries & fan complaints about the first episode.

A few fans complained about the weird Starfleet HQ 'rooftop cleanup' job & leave Picard on his couch with no questions asked scene jump moment in ep 1 but now we see the Commodore reviewing the battle cleanup footage (questioning it's effectiveness) and discover this fascinating Starfleet conspiracy with secret Romulan sect plot. I remember people in the past getting so upset about the English writing in the Romulan Borg research post but there are a lots of humans there which explains that one.

We see that the Androids that destroyed Utopia planitia were 'hacked' presumably by this secret synthetic hating Romulan faction. And holy moly they actually acknowledged Picard's Irumodic syndrome that afflicted him around now in the alternate future seen in TNG finale All Good Things. I'm impressed with their attention to detail (regarding old Trek events), which makes me hope the writers haven't forgotten Lore & Lal after all.

The only real gaff I saw was Laris saying Romulans never had a cybernetic program which contradicts the awesome TNG S3 ep the defector where Admiral Jarok tells Data that he knows a number of Romulan cyberneticists that would love to get their hands on him. Although then again maybe its not a gaff as we saw Romulan experts pulling apart dead Borg. You cant really study Borgs without some good cyberneticists lol. Probably just more Romulan secrets lol.

OK, we are two episodes in, and all I can say is this. I prefer to call this series Star Trek: DISCARD. It's one thing to show me a Galaxy Class Starship, but if your going to include the Discovery version of the Original Enterprise then lets DISCARD of 50 years for your F$#@ing hubris. Otherwise, it's watchable, they are keeping the Continuity story-wise, and I can NEVER let go of that stupid Chalkboard. Only other complaint I got, how many more F-bombs will we hear in the CBS Star Trek Universe?

Excuse me, the Antares Class? No, the Antares type. You see you are confusing two different types of the same model.

as oppose to

Which makes more sense then a Military ship loaded with weapons. Besides even today we use Drone Spacecraft to make deliveries to the ISS. Nice try but as I said, I am a TrekkieGal.

Hello:
As far I've seen for several franchises: "Class" is the official name given to all ships with the same design, like Constitution class heavy cruiser or Mercury class Battlestar. But "Type" is used to identify a certain design of a ship in an unofficial way because we don't know the correct designation, like Valkyrie type Battlestar or Antares type Cargo Vessel :) .

All I can go is with what Canon information I am given. Seeing it is not spoken, then I have to go with Production. I mean I don't exactly make this up, that belongs to Mike Okuda who officially named it an Antares-type because by the time they made these RMS for TOS an Antares class TNG already established it as a FREIGHTER. Now can we drop this because I really think this thread is for Star Trek: Picard

Hello:
Sigh, this was all a total misunderstanding, because yes, it is called Antares type as that was just the ship's name during the episode (so not necessarily it's class, so who knows what is it's real class name, unless the producer did got the semantic error Hellkite mentioned) and that it has 2 versions, drone and with a crew (which makes the ship extremely versatile!). Also, if it is a freighter or a cargo ship is beyond me because I don't remember much else of the episode.
---
As for the real topic! As I have no clue why this mess of a ship came to be in the first place, my brother will hire Amazon Prime so I should be able to watch the series soon :) .

The point that is relevant to Picard is this

"The canon is vast and is subject to change it's a fictional story after all not a hard history and we are not a Q can't know everything about everything."

The reason I brought up the Antares is it is an example of a canon change in the broadcast TOS episode "Charlie X " the ship never showed .
Then in 2007 remastered version came out
and showed her making her cannon.

See the Antares-type originally existed as the robot grain ship, which originally appeared in Star Trek: The Animated Series. and so was not " Canon " but was made canon overnight.

I made that response because of

"Yeah I guess not, after all Continuity is irrelevant, we will be assimilated." - Candice Greene

So I restate and clarify my point ( The canon / Continuity is vast and is subject to change it's a fictional story after all not a hard history)

Edit

And by the way

According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 326), the starship class of the Antares in "Charlie X" was called Antares-class. The USS Hermes, on p. 330, was listed as a sister ship of the Antares listed as Antares-class.

I'm honestly getting a little tired of this cycle of "not my canon" shenanigans.

I like redesigned because it doesn't look retro. I don't want more nostalgia cash-in from a new Trek show. I want something bold. Visuals that scream hey, remember a popular 60's TV show??? - please no. Don't embarrass me in this way as a Trek fan. Franchise consistency is having a bridge, not what it looks like.

And maybe some "purist" fans could be a little more flexible, and feel some joy in the creativity of a new set of designs and an expansion of the franchise's visual vocab, along with some serious production value. Why never look on the bright side? Why not celebrate the new? It reminds me of Luddites who insist that dinosaurs sHoULD LoOk like lizards despite new scientific evidence that they had feathers.

Star Trek is like reverse archaeology, there is always new material to work with sometimes it shakes up the very foundations of our beliefs. For better or worse.

In my line of work, there's this saying that if Trek artists actually listened to whiny fanbois, the entirety of ship fanart would just be TOS Enterprises lmao.
