Thank you all for the kind words. The Surgery went well. The doctor said he couldn't see how my dad was able to handle it for so long. I will be picking him up this morning (Wednesday 11-18-09 9:00 am CST USA). The doctors said that the cancer started on his tongue and spread to a lymph node on his neck and then to his shoulder with small spots on his shoulder blades, spine, and hips. They say that it would be the first time they seen a cancer move from the tongue to other parts of the body. They also said (on the positive side) that the cancer on his tongue has a 99% curable rate. They hope that if the cancer did in fact move from the tongue that the rest will also be as easily treatable.

SciFiFan, I lost my own father to cancer many years ago. I am delighted and greatly relieved to hear things are going well so far. All I can offer is prayers for your Dad to continue along this successful path. But I will offer as many as you want for as long as you want.

That's good news Sci-Fi Fan. I hope it all ends up good and a happy ending. My mother had a very rare cancer, only two people in Australia ever had it, one being her and a man in Melbourne. She pulled through and I believe your father will too, especially after what the Doctors said to you.

I am sitting a work all day and got to piddling around. I want to see what the community thinks of this.

Love it if you want, hate it if you must, just be nice.

PS: See if you can guess the poly count.

Not a bad attempt at all for a STXI version of the Excelsior. Looking good mate.

As I mentioned over at A2Files when a similar subject came up, to me what makes the Excelsior legendary is the differentiation from the Connie. It's the bussard collectors and the length of the nacelles that make it such a distinctive starship in my mind. Maybe if you slimmed the bussards a bit (you've already resolved the nacelle length issue) it'd be more in keeping. But I like this mesh-in-progress more than either of the conversion models I saw in pics at A2Files. They're just a little too Connie to stand out.

Are you planning on using a dish-based or lit-circle-based secondary hull for a main sensor/deflector?

:D

I originally did the nacelles without the "inflated" bussard. If you do notice, I do not have the collector like what the Connie sports. I may go bake to the straight nacelle, I just wanted to see a little more curves.

I am planning on doing a sort of hybrid. It will be somewhat designed like the dish on the Connie, just it would not be a dish.

Looks like a great start. However, you could try adding more curves to her general shape to make her more streamlined. Much like the one I used for my version.

Yeah, I wanted more curves on her secondary hull. I may try again but, I am afraid her poly count will go through the roof. The saucer and neck were over 1000 poly themselves. The model finish as you see it at around 1900. I have since added the deflector area taking the count to almost 2100. If I put too many curves.....I'll have to learn how to mod SFC III.

2100 is very fine for a model of this size, especially for a battleship/explorer, so you still have some leeway man. Besides, Amateur's XI Connie was over 4000 as last glance.

The model isn't going to be used in a TNG era mod anyway, so 2000 is more than fine, 2500 would also be okay, even 3000 if they weren't massed built.

You've managed all of this on less than 2,500 polies? Exceptional! Add the curves, I'd say.

With or without?

I have been working on my AR Excelsior. I would like everyone's opinion. I have made it with a little extra area under the secondary hull. Does it look better with or without it?

I say with it, as without it I feel it's too narrow. Also could you give us some more views of the beauty? :)

I like it with the bulge as well. Makes for a nice place to put a pair of aft-firing torpedo tubes and a ventral phaser battery. One of the things I've always disliked about the Excelsior is she seems a little undergunned for her size.

Now that I am back into the swing of things and I have the AR Miranda completed, I have decided to go back to some of my unfinished projects. Next up is to finish my TOS Kelvin.

I did some fiddling with my AR Excelsior. I was not completely satisfied with my secondary hull so, I took the secondary hull of the original (from SFC3) and modified it a little and combined it with my own primary hull, pylons, and nacelles. Here is the results.

Looks good! I think jet already said so, but if you'd like to use the textures for this on the STXI Ent go ahead, please.

Yeah, and if you mix some of the textures from the p81 Excelsior, then we have ourselves a winner :D

Really love how she's shaping op.

Pretty much looks similar to my Version 2 AR Excelsior...

Thanks. I'd be lying if I said your design didn't influence this.
