Since STO went F2P and there are more and more of us joining in now that we can afford to, I thought it might be nice for us to share info and pictures about our crews.

Here is a quick image/wallpaper of mine, information will come later.

How do you get the high quality pics of your crew? That is pretty cool.

Well, I'll try assembling a pic of my Federation Crew. My Klingon crew is still young and I didn't really "Choose" them.

I used a program called Snagit. However one can do it by just clicking PRTSCN (Print Screen) and then minimizing STO and pasting it into a graphic program such as MSPaint, Photoshop, GIMP etc.

Same here, I only created them yesterday so Kat and I could get the Klingon ship for the event going on atm. I plan to replace the Gorn at first viable opportunity.

There is also a folder when you press "printscreen" it saves a screen shot to a folder in you game directory. Go to the following location.

C:\Users\Public\Games\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live\screenshots

This is the default location for the game install. Substitute any part of the directory if you changed the install location.

So you are just photoshopping them onto a transparent background?

This is the pack of miscreants and ne'er-do-wells which sometimes pretend to be the command crew of Relentless. They're a matey lot an' if you don't hose them down every day, they stink up the place. Still they're my pack of miscreants, so I kinda am fond of them. A little.

Have finally joined up too. Not 100% impressed so far, but I'll give it a go. :)

My crew and ship in my sig. Not a particularly imaginitive design for a ship, I know, Centaur saucer and Miranda everything-else, but it's the nicest looking ship possible with the given options.

Welcome aboard!! Once you get into the higher levels you may enjoy it a little more. As Thunderfoot said, that is a beautiful configuation. I used the same on my first starter ship but I used the Centaur nacelles.

No need to yell at us ISS, that's pretty rude imo and it ain't a race. If anything I feel the characters rank too fast. I have several Captain's already and a VA and once they get to VA I feel what is the point of playing them? You can't gain any more experience or develop them any further.

Congrats on your promotion Thunder, which ship are you going to/already got for your Captain?

As I've said before, all I'm doing is wandering around and sticking my nose into every possible nook and cranny in the game. I was surprised more by the promotion than I was expecting it. Short version, I got lucky. Chill out, ISS. This isn't a competition to see who gets where first. I've been racking up some serious game time is all. I've also gone back and picked up a few missions I declined earlier.

Congrats on your promotion Thunder, which ship are you going to/already got for your Captain?
USS Shangri La NCC-93353 Galaxy class Exploration Cruiser. I am having a blast with Relentless, so I decided to try out a cruiser. Wanna see what it's like to jump right into the middle of an enemy formation and then dare them to do something about it, rofl.

Sorry about that guys, a bit of impulsiveness that got out of hand.

That aside, full congratulations on your promotion Thunderfoot! Nice to see yet another Galaxy floating around out among us.

It is a lot of fun. I have the Odyssey tanked pretty good. Congrats on the promotion.

Well, despite initial reservations about this game, I'm now hooked. I think the problem is that there's a bit too much information overload to begin with, so many choices and options, that it makes you think that once you've made all those choices, there's not much more to it. But then more features start to get added (Duty Officers & Assignments, for example), and although for a total newbie there's still a lot of reading involved in figuring these things out, it does keep the interest going. And the storylines seem pretty good too, so far anyway.

So, I've made LtCdr. Am close to Commander already, but I'm in no real rush. I went for the Science Vessel option, and... I have to say, although the ship customisation thing is pretty good, it needs to have a LOT more options than just 3 for each part. Like how that S&S game, Starship Creator, had... So yeah, the only option I thought looked any good was just box-standard Nova.

Signature pic updated to show my current crew & ships.

Glad to hear and see you're enjoying yourself, Atlantis. I have had a really good time today fitting out and doing builder's trials on my new exploration cruiser. Added a Tactical Officer, too. Been giving the Remans no end of trouble and heartache. Shangri La is a tough old girl. We went nose to beak with a D'Deridex and gave as good as we got. When the Reman's warp containment field blew, it dropped us to about two percent of hull remaining. Cost a fortune to repair, but it was worth it

Nice! I actually slaughter big D's with my steamrunner or defiant, but it is actually the fast targets(mogai escorts?) that are hard to get, because their down shields never stay towards you. Those big D's are so slow, a rapid burst, phaser overload and high yield torp will bring them down past 60%. :D

I actually feel bad for rommie BoP's because they die so quickly.:lol2: For some reason though, those rommie escorts give me trouble.:exter:

(ok ok, these are the romulan ones. Reman big D's are quite troublesome sometimes.)

I went with the Nova as well for my science officer Isria. I too felt that the alternatives were a bit yuck. I felt the same with the Prometheus and Galaxy kitbashes. I do think they still have much to do to improve upon the alternatives they have on offer.

The Valdore's are hard for any ship, they are so quick and powerful for a ship of their size. A good way to deal with them is to train your science bridge officer with Tachyon burst that takes down their shields for a while. That's what I have done with my Klingon characters and now I make short work on them.

Just wait till you fight the Reman Scimitar's, they have dual shields and are a beast to fight. Being a Captain I will have to assume you've already fought one but with an entire Armada to help. Wait till Sela and her scimitar fights you, if I recall you do it yourself with one AI assist, a Valdore of all things too if I recall.

I am currently running a carrier for my Orion character, lots of fun launching Orion Interceptors who do a lot of damage actually for such small ships. I can have 6 fighters launched at a time and can even order them to escort my allies. Lots of fun.

I've had fun with Shangri La, but you never really forget your first true love, lol. I've gone back to Relentless. Although this one is vastly, wickedly improved over the original. So I decided to make her look the part. With Oslo saucer and nacelles. For weapons, I have dual disruptor cannons and chroniton torps for'ard and a disruptor turret and a photon mine launcher aft. Been working on strafing and bombing runs since I pulled her from storage. That Dominion battleship only added to the frustration of my IP provider suddenly dropping half their bandwidth. All of a sudden, the lag got bad enough I thought I was on dialup like back in the day.

:lol2: Kat run the same setup in terms of hull pieces on her escort.

[About an hour after my last post, I made Commander; that's how out-of-date my last "news" was, heh. Sig-pic updated.]

...and I've done exactly the same too, hehe. It does seem to be the best combination of the parts available.
Have put a couple of £££ into getting the NX prefix for the USS Locksley, and 2 more bridge officer slots so I now have (left to right):
- Chell Inari, Bolian Female Engineering, Chief Operations Officer
- Sotaak, Vulcan Male Science, Chief Science Officer
- Atrin R'Mir, Andorian Female Tactical, Chief Tactical & Security Officer
- Endrana Delann, Betazoid Female Science, Chief Medical Officer
- Shi'ak Avim, Andorian Male Engineering, Chief Engineering OFficer
- Lenara Miral, Trill Female Science, First Officer
- Lana M'Giia, Andorian Female Science, Captain
