• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hey, did any of you guys have any large trouble with the actual game launcher? I cannot get the thing to startup for 10 billion bucks and I really wanted to try and get into this game but it always says there's about 3 days worth of waiting...(please excuse me if this is a little off topic)

Someone at Fleetops was having that problem too. I am not having any trouble starting it myself though, sorry. Someone recommended forcing a re-install of the latest patch, but I don't know if that will work.

All I know is that the US servers have been filling up and are often maxed out on weekends. It could be that maybe in an attempt to distribute the load evenly, other countries may be receiving American clients and filling up their servers too.

Alright thanks, I'll just run a reinstall and give it a little time. Hopefully it'll run if I just let it be, and I'll see you online.

Gotta say about STO, although I'm loving the fact that I can finally play again, I HATE HATE HATE the loadtimes!!! I've been trying to start up the game for the last half hour, and I've had to reset twice! I utterly despise this waiting, but the fun I have when I do get on makes up for it rather quickly

Interesting. I am playing on a laptop and I have very quick load times. Maybe it is your internet speed?

I would have to agree as Maj and I have no issues loading from the same household.

*is getting rather addicted and tries to rush home from college to play STO*

I find this rather interesting considering I just cannot for the life of me get into A1 or A2 or even FleetOps :x

We are also running off 4 year old PC's, well mine is 4, Kat's is 3. The patching can be a pain when you load a system but that aside we have had no load issues.

Just registered and D/L'd the game. Should be fully online sometime later this week. Due to going back over the road, may not be able to play as regularly as I'd like. Be difficult to play online with rest of you for the same reason. But I surely will try.

Does anyone know the rate of USD to Zen/Cryptic Points? I want to know how much money I need to buy a ship.

Yeah, I just looked this up because I was thinking about buying some things from the C store. Ships aren't really worth it, but for $10 USD you get 1000 Zen or 800 C points. the conversion rate is 100z-80c:thumbsup:

A good ship will cost you around $20...

I am considering buying more ship and officer slots so I can try out some cruisers without getting rid of my current officers. its like 200 points for two more officer slots and 400 for two more ship slots.:yum:

:excited: Awesome! When you make your Character be sure to use the advanced options for appearance, and like Maj said to me, try to stick with it until you rank up. It took me a couple days to get addicted.:lol2:

Ok, now I have a question. How many ships can you get on a free account, and can you sell your old ships? I am wondering if it is worth it to buy the extra ship slots since you can only use one at a time. I definitely want more officer slots, but I could get other stuff if I don't get the extra ship slots.

Also, I just baught a $10 card and I can confirm that it is 800 c points.

From what we can gather you can only discard your old ships.. Though if you can sell them perhaps Scififan would know :)
The higher you level the more ship slots you get, At Maj and my level we currently have 8 ship slots, I think you get an extra 2 for each rank up from the looks of it, I'll be on most of today (the next 12hours on and off) it's my day off College but Maj will be doing his course all day, I'll be trying to catch up to Maj as he is 2 levels higher than I am now and almost Rear Admiral Lower half, if my son is feeling better later I may let him on his account too, he is having the day off sue to food poisoning from the schools shop I'll be having words with them today :x

Now you see what took me away from modding.

Unfortunately no, you can not sell your ships. This has been brought up many times on the forums. There were several that didn't think it was fair to not get any compensation. The answer we got from the devs is that they felt it would be exploited to get "rich" with EC. When you purchase a ship via C-Store, you can discard and reclaim them as many times as you want. This would "devalue" EC. Also, you get the ships for free so why should we be compensated. :p

Been dinkin' about with this all day, to get the graphics setting correct where they do not lag and a few other things. Although, I signed up more because everyone else seemed to be here and I wanted to play online with Y'all. I have to admit I kinda like it. There are some things which are a little silly, like the nightclub in SFHQ, but over all, it ain't too bad.

Enter 1 fresh captain and his shiny new Defiant. What can i say i like the Escort Class.

No puny science for me. No oversized cruisers.. give me a fighting ship anytime.

I may get a Intrepid for nostalgia, but my main fighting force will be the Escort Class.

Haha, yeah, the night club is silly, as are some of the noise makers and emotions people can use, however it made more sense when Q was sitting in the middle of it.

I absolutely love the Space combat. Has a very Star trek Feel to it, and is everything Legacy was not. I would like to control 4 ships at once, but hey, we can't have everything I guess.

Yeah, I am really fond of the dogfighting with escorts, and will definitly get a defiant, however I got the cruiser refit(connie) for the nostalgia, and I too might get an intrepid.

The ship combat has a very similar feel to that in SFC I and II, both which I enjoyed playing a great deal. Didn't have any real troubles figuring out how to recreate the tactics I used there. I can see where good shields and a nimble ship commanded by an able captain will do very well. GodShips there are in plenty. Big, fat, lumbering, slow targets which take forever to turn. All they need is one shot, but it takes them all day long to set that one shot up. Fought a fleet action and took down a Negh' Var with a Miranda. Easy to latch onto his hind end and stay there where he could do little to remove me. Then three Raptor escorts came over the top of his bow and s****ed me right off. Just in time to get caught up in the Negh' Var's warp core overload. I can easily see where someone could get really addicted to this. I'd like to see some more missions where science and engineering are more important than good reflexes and a fast trigger finger, though. I understand they've got to keep the shoot'em up aspect front and center for the masses, but thank goodness they've set up user created content. Pretty sure MSFC's bunch could come up with some excellent missions featuring skills other than a good shooting eye.

With my previous Akira i had trouble with Warbirds (or at least the Hero birds) but now with my Defiant i just swirl over them to close for those heavy plasma torps to hit while dumping Quantum mines, Quantum Torps/transfasic torps and heavy phaser fire.

Only the Hirogen Escorts are annoying since they tend to match my maneuverability and have a tough skin.

Yeah they seem to lower the AI's level to match the player, the higher you get the harder it gets

I swirl around doing damage up until the point where i have its shields down and one mine barrage will do the trick.. i dump the mines and sprint out of the blast range/warp core breach :p

There is a nice bit of exploration missions, but unfortunatly, they are mostly the same thing. Fly through an asteroid belt and scan everything, run around and scan all 5 of these plants, beam to the station and check all the records... Lots of those, but sometimes you get some good ones.

You'll notice there are a few bugs that can dampen the play, but for a game that we can play for free there really isn't much room for complaints.

The exploration missions are great to gather radiation samples and the like which are used for crafting. Oh and Adm_Z I discovered what the rare ones are for, crafting rare grade items.

I like how with the ships you have to choose a preference of firepower, damage absorption (aka tanks) or buffs. Just like one would in real life a ship is designed for a particular role and while all can be deployed and used in other areas they don't excel in the ones they aren't designed for. While I am sticking with the tactical ones this time around, next time I'll be taking a different route.

Hey guys... uhm.... I need to ask a question.... does anyone have any idea how many times you need to rank up to get a free officer slot?

Two dumb questions. How do I do screen captures and where does the game save them?

Then again the encounters in space are interesting. Beat up the Terrans, Borg or Remans.

Especially that Borg support ship is hard to take down with the time limit. We (a temp team.. playing at rear admiral difficulty, i am a captain) did manage to do it though today.

I wonder what the admiral escort is. the Prometheus or a Defiant Upgrade.
