I figured this was the best place to put this update....

I finally got an appointment with a specialist to check out my knee and see if they will give me a MRI to figure out why I have no stability in my right knee. My appointment is on Thursday. Hope it all goes well.

Hope you get some good news at your appointment CF, good luck on thursday our thoughts are with you :)

Are you hoping for a medical board or hoping they will fix it and keep you up and running?

I will take either one. If my knee is bad enough that I could not deploy. Then, the only option would be to go to a med board and make room for someone who could deploy if need be. If my knee can be fixed then I have a few options on staying in the service.

My main concern, as far as wether or not to try to stay in or not, is can I still do the job with my knee the way it is or would I become a liability in a combat situation. The last thing I would want is to have to much pride and cost another soldier their life.

I have the MRI scheduled for Monday morning. Then I should have an appointment with the specialist about 2-3 weeks after that to find out the results.

Commendable!
I hope the MRI shows what's wrong with your knee and that the doctors can fix it quickly and minimal invasive. Do you have an apointment with a civy doctor or is it a military hospital?
Heads up, soldier :)

The MRI is done by a civy company but it is being ordered by a doctor at the VA hospital. So, it is a military hospital but just for veterans.

Ouch, knee problems. I hope you'll get those problems fixed. As I myself has knee problems, I know how troublesome it can be.

Always hated knee injuries when I was in. And on an Abrams, it was all but impossible to avoid them for some reason. I am hoping and praying all of this turns out for the best for you.

Well, I have a permanent knee brace to help keep me standing and the specialist I went to today said I have a Labral tear and a partial thickness rotator cuff tear in my right shoulder. There might be nerve damage but they won't be able to test for that until I have surgery. It is hard to believe it has been three years since I was injured.

3 years is a long time to wait. The medical system over there is terrible. I hope you get your surgery soon and have a speedy recovery mate.

The main issue has been the VA requires proof for any test to be needed. My job title in the Army is expected to be stuck in an office and never see anything off of the base. Getting them to understand I did over 700 convoys, helped check in 20,000 trucks after they crossed the Pakistan border, and helped check those same trucks for explosives is sometimes difficult. After what ever different doctor they send me to understands the actual job I did instead of what the job title was suppose to be they normally cooperate with me pretty well.

I am actually navigating the VA system better than most do. That is the scary part.

Yes the red tape of the Va is extensive at times. But once you get past that part and get it all rated, one could not really ask for a better system it is some of the best health care in the world and all at no cost .

I agree with you there, Hellkite. I already have everything set up with my rep at the DAV to turn in the paperwork for upping my percentage after I have the surgery.

Alright. First off my schooling is going very well.... First quarter done with a 4.0 GPA. The second quarter started last week and will be interesting.
The second part is why....My surgery on my right shoulder is scheduled for April 9th. If they only go in and clean it up I am looking at 6-8 weeks recovery and 1 week of no driving. If they have to stitch up either tear I am looking at 3-4 months recovery with 1 month of no driving. I drive 100 miles round trip 3 days a week to go to school. I have classes the two days following the surgery. I am aiming to keep my 4.0 GPA. This is going to be interesting.
