as some of you may know, i absolutely love Ninja Gaiden not only is it a visually stunning game (for its times) it also has a great story and surprisingly involved gameplay.
while at a glance you do do a lot of "hack and slash" there are also puzzles, skills and tactics in this game.
in my opinion the first was the hardest game on the Xbox. it was certainly teh hardest game i ever played opn the Xbox. to this day i am unable to get past the 6th boss. however when i normally meet a game like this i think "screw it" and give up, but for some reason i feel compelled to try and beat the game, even after the first 7 nights i spent on the first boss.
This new one, while there are 2 difficulty settings (Easy and Hard), is still tricky, if you dont use your head, and the skills you aquire.
another thing i love about this game (and the first) is that these skills are accessable whether you have played teh game before, or just starting. for example.
a combo of X+X+Y+X is usable in the begining (it has a name, which i forget) and is a very powerful attack, giving you an advantage to help at the begining if you have played this before, or, in my case generally, if you are just lucky enough to button bash the right combination
The array of weaponary is fantastic, im only on the 3rd chapter, and i already have 3 weapons.
The Dragon sword - (which you start with) which is a fantastic alrounder.
Lunar Staff - i rarely use this, but it seems to be the "slow but powerful"type
and finally
Falcon's Talons - these are basically fist (and foot) mounted blades, no range but lightening quick, and poerfull too, you get great combos and fantastic De-limbing possibilities.
Also, this game is exceptionally gory. so not for the squeemish.
The Best bit about this game (not because of the unadultorated Blood'n'guts) is that you can cut the limbs off of your foe, but, this makes them far more dangerous (I got over confident, and an enemy ninja, with no legs, and only one arm came crawling up to Ryu, but before i could do anything, it grabbed hold of Ryu and exploded, doing a LOT of damage)
To counter this you have an "Obliterate Technique" which gives your foe a cinematic and bloody end, should they be missing one or more limbs. should you buy the game, expect some spectacular looking deaths.
While i admit this game is not for everyone, if you liked the first you will love this, and it is definately worth a purchase.
Id like to see what other people think of this game as well,
