Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.
Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.
We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.
Ohh, I sure feel your pain!Yes they would add quite a chunk to the model. I find when adding turrets to models like B5 and BSG they massively add to the poly count.
Yup my latest model is 9500, then add 20k worth of turrets and MS3D chucks a ninny at me.Hello:

Just like my reimagined Galactica . But we cannot ignore how great the results are of adding turrets.Yup my latest model is 9500, then add 20k worth of turrets and MS3D chucks a ninny at me.
More like YOLO.... even if that message was not meant for meI figure.. go big or go home right?
So perhaps that is why keeps telling me to add moar polies! That's it. Since I only mod with Sins in mind and I have seen 60K models in it, it's like meh it'll work fine.
Indeed.. its 2024, not 2002 lolHello:

Yeah that's it. I model for Sin's now but I still try to keep my models as low as possible as I absolutely hate lag.Indeed.. its 2024, not 2002 lol
It' s only 22 years of difference in technological advancements and game-engine renderingsIndeed.. its 2024, not 2002 lol
I share the same sentiments! My mindset has however shifted to, as low as I can without sacrificing some looks.Yeah that's it. I model for Sin's now but I still try to keep my models as low as possible as I absolutely hate lag.
That is exactly how I work. Turrets are probably the only thing I am will to sacrifice looks for.I share the same sentiments! My mindset has however shifted to, as low as I can without sacrificing some looks.
That can work but only for certain angles, otherwise you will just get something that won't look as good. However, there is one instance I used that to great effect and that was when I once made Peacekeeper Command Carrier, as the turrets (frag cannons) had some crazy scaffolding-like details. using texture tricks those can be made .What if you handled turrets like sprits? with a sort of X shaped plane for barrels?
I always wanted to figure out a way to "fix" a turret to a ship like the Galactica, and have it spin in place and target enemies almost autonomously... If I remember, the problem is that usually renders the host ship immovable. Which... isn't overall an impossible mechanic to deal with... picketing fire and all that... but still. Unless you wanted 100 Galactica's on the map, one ship with all its turrets would be no more than a small fleet on screen.Hello:

I split the thread so we don't clog up @CptBenSisko Conny thread.

Guilty hahahaha.LOL I was wondering what happened here.. I was like? whos thread is this? all of the comments looked familiar and I could have sworn we were talking about it in my thread LOL
Yeah the Warzone engine that Armada 1/2 were based on just doesn't support animations on moving objects. A game like Star Wars: Empire at War on the other hand def does.. as ISDs and other ships can have moving turrets and gun emplacements.I always wanted to figure out a way to "fix" a turret to a ship like the Galactica, and have it spin in place and target enemies almost autonomously... Indeed, to have ships with proper turrets we might need to change the way we play Armada2. So no longer spamming battleships.I always wanted to figure out a way to "fix" a turret to a ship like the Galactica, and have it spin in place and target enemies almost autonomously... Oh dang, I was hoping FleetOps' revamped engine would have helped as we can have mobile research stations.Yeah the Warzone engine that Armada 1/2 were based on just doesn't support animations on moving objects. That is likely a feature requested by fans, due to the many mods been made for Sins.Sins 2 also supports moving turrets.
Totally agree with you there. Sins is made with modding in mind.Hello:
