Very nice V-wing mate, I'm impressed.
In fact I find myself trying to avoid this thread lately, 'cause it keeps giving me the urge to dust off my copy of Milkshape and start bashing out some models again.
Argh......I must resist.......

Loving the new fighters Maj, that v-wing is absolutely amazing, as is the NTB. Fantastic job you've done there. Very intrigued by this fighter only mod too :)

And there is a problem with that? I think if my own work can motivate others, then it's time well spent.

Thanks, I am glad you like them, lots of work but the results are great. Just wait till you see what I am doing atm, the next ship is about 50% complete in the texturing. So I am hoping to show it soon. I built this model today as well as starting the texturing. :D

Now this is what I have been working on the last couple of days, first I went into the past with the Nimbus V-wing, this time I have gone into the future with this design. Yes it's not the design I said a few posts ago that I was going to work on, motivation is to blame here.

I'll admit, I have never been a fan of the E-wing, from the Expanded Universe. I have always felt it was a brick with wings. It was horrible and a poor replacement to the highly popular and beloved X-wing in my opinion. Well fans who thought as I do have re-designed the E-wing into something that deserves respect and fills the role of the X-wing successor and does it justice. Being rather fond of the design I decided to have a crack at it and here is the result.

Unlike the official size of 11 meters this one turned out to be about 2 meters longer than the X-wing, so with the X-wing being 16 meters, that makes the E-wing 18 meters.

With the texturing I tried to incorporate as much X-wing as I could get away with, plus my own artistic licence for parts. Being that the E-wing was built by the X-wing designers, having founded their own company after the Battle of Endor, and that the E-wing is the X-wing successor I felt it made sense. I am also unsure if I should keep the Droid above like it is in the images below or have the cockpit section for it like the original design. I welcome opinions on this. Feels a bit exposed up there, much like on the Y-wing.

Awesome! This is probably my favorite starfighter in SW. As such, I feel obligated to provide opinion on certain aspects, so again, please bear with my nitpicks.

The overall model is great, love the textures but here are my thoughts. The droid, though not on the actual version is a nice touch, however imo it is too small for the size of the cockpit. Also, I think it could be moved back and the third cannon could be added. I always liked the three cannons on the e wing.

The only other think I think could use adjustment is the wing stance. They could be a bit wider and silted back a bit. Here is an example of what I am talking about.

Love the ship man, I can't wait for it to be released.

Not a problem man, I appreciate your views.

I scaled the Droid to the X-wing as I did with the whole E-wing model, the cockpit is made to be larger internally to the X-wing to give the pilot more room for long-rang missions. I was even thinking of waking it a two man cockpit, one for the pilot and the other for a passenger.

I removed the top cannon for a number of reasons, firstly I think it looks silly. Secondly I feel it's a hazard, blocking the cockpit for emergency ejection also the sliding mechanical thingy could malfunction or get hit in a battle trapping the pilot inside. I may be thinking too much into that, but those are my justifications for removing it apart from my personal tastes. When I do release it, feel free to add one on the model with a bit of kitbashing if you like the third cannon.

If I did as you asked now, I'd have to re-do the textures. :(

The torp tubes are on the side of it's hull like the X-wing. As for the top cannon, I didn't like it, for several reasons I voiced above.

The Droid question is that in the original model it sits behind the cockpit/pilot in it's own compartment for it's own protection. It would be easy to texture that in, I was just asking what people think, as I am not sure if I should or not.

Wow 9 months since I last posted, I guess you can't consider this a double post. :lol2:

Well during the first part of this year, Kat and I had neighbour issues, serious ones. The woman down the back ended up with this guy who to put it nicely was the worse type of human being I have ever personally encountered. Basically the polar opposite to everyone I have even known even those who are rather nasty towards others. So anyway modelling wasn't doing the trick for me anymore, trapped in our own house like prisoners, even though he wasn't supposed to be living there and she had an eviction on her for not paying the rent for months and months, owing the Landlord $2000+ in back rent.

So here SciFiFan comes along and announces STO has gone F2P, Kat decides to give it a shot and I jump on for the ride as well. With all of that games flaws I do owe it the credit for keeping me level headed, able to withdraw from reality when it was at it's worse. But this hasn't done any good for my modelling and completing my models and releasing them. Luckily I had them all backed up on my external hard-drive when my main drive decided to go into early retirement. I still need to see if I can salvage the data as it didn't seem to burn out, just windows doesn't seem to detect it, but the PC Bios does. So there may be a little luck on my side in this regard.

Anyway in the past few days I have been hit with insomnia, going to bed at like 3 and 5am. Not getting a huge amount of sleep and kind of sick of STO and the lack of delivering what the Community and their customers want, aka playable missions, I decided to head back to my models and see about finishing as many up as I can handle. Since I stopped on the Star Wars models some 9 months ago I thought it was a good place to pick back up.

Decided the fighters were the way to go. I finished up the last Republic fighter I did, hardpointed it and sent it to Jerfreak along with the other textured fighters I did (Y-wing, NTB-630, E-wing etc).

Anyway I decided to get cracking on some more fighters that needed texturing and here are the results of my work in the past few days.

Cool models as always, Maj.

You might try a different OS. Ubuntu is free and pretty easy to use and install and comes with FAT, FAT32, and NTFS drivers. If you just need to pull the info off and back it up somewhere else then a computer made out of spare parts should run Ubuntu just fine for that purpose.

Thanks mate, hopefully I will be getting a new PC early next year. Plus I am considering doing a re-install of windows sometime in the future. Thankfully there isn't anything on that hard drive that I can't live without for the short-term. But thanks for the suggestion I might look into that down the track.

Well your wait is over, here is the Tie Experimental's, just well just because. Yes they are ugly, yes they are badly designed, but they were rather quick to do, all five of them I did in one day. Thanks in part due to mainly being kitbashes.

These designs are from X-wing Alliance.

I only have a few Tie's left thinking of doing some fan designs as well, don't know how many but just a few to round out the Tie series.

Yeah they are pretty ugly, goes to shows fans have the best designs when compared to video game developers. :lol2:

I like the one with the missile pods. The rest of them are unbelievably ugly (what do you know, pigs can fly after all) from a design stand-point, but you've done a brilliant job of the models, they're very well done.

I'm glad you said so, because I really didn't want to offend. :lol2::angel:

I wouldn't be offended, I just did the models because I could. Simple as that. They were rather quick to do considering they are based of the Tie/LN (fighter), Tie/IN (Interceptor) and Tie/SA (Bomber).

I like the one with the missile pods. The rest of them are unbelievably ugly (what do you know, pigs can fly after all) from a design stand-point, but you've done a brilliant job of the models, they're very well done.

Thanks, yeah my son liked the Tie Missile one as well. I don't mind the ones with the cannons on the side, though from a modelling prospect the first one with the single wing was my favourite to model.

Yeah the design was pretty weak in EAW, they also have the Tie Tank. The deflector wings are actually solar panels designed to get power, that's how the Tie's work.

Also I don't know how many here visit Moddb, but back before I had the hard drive crash I did make a profile on there.

The pics on that page are Jetfreak's, they are awesome, I am utterly impressed by this work, especially of late. Well done mate.

I have no intentions at the moment (hopes yes, but no intentions), but we never know what the future holds. Who knows if I get enough models finished (most are already made and just require texturing) I may slap together a mod with some basic coding. But if that was to ever happen it would be pretty far down the line and I would need a coding expert to help with the coding and balancing stuff. Again no promises, after my previous track record I don't want to make promises that I may not be able to keep.

On that note I only have two more Tie fighters to go, one is already textured mapped and just requires the creation of the texture. After which I'll be turning my attention to larger wessels, not nuclear but wessels none the less. :lol2:

One of my least favourite TIE designs, the TIE Phantom is now finished. This is my second last TIE that I will be doing in the short-term. I'm itching to do some of my larger captain ships. So many models so few textured. I do however plan to come back to fighters down the track including some fan made TIE Fighters.

To be honest, I'm not a Star Wars fan . The visual effects are alright but I always find it sooo... clichéd that it makes me wince. Moreover, I even less of a fan of the TIE series. Yes, they're different, and basic, and I can see cases for the simplicity and reuse of common components etc. But to me it just seemed like laziness on the part of designer (even if it was probably intentional to contrast the Rebel forces with crisp, uniform primary shapes). The only TIE series craft that has ever made me sit up and take notice is the Interceptor - although your Phantom did make me look twice.

But, all that said and done - these are some masterful bits of work. With such basic shapes it's easy to go over simplistic during construction but these look good. I know where to go if I ever do get the Star Wars bug (and occasionally I get an itch, but it never lasts long).
