Hello all, those who have been with us for years may remember a model I was making back when we were still using the phpBB forums, a Star Trek pre-TOS Daedalus. It was my first major attempt at modelling and in a nutshell it was horrible.

Well since then I have learnt alot working with Syf on Yesteryears as well as my own endeavours most notably the MSFC mod.

Well today I decided to go back and start again and I completely restarted the model from scratch. Below are images of what I have been able to do in the 4-5 hours I have been working on it, feedback is most welcome and really needed and wanted.

EDIT:

I have finished the texturing of the model and I only need to do some minor mesh edites (like adding a impulse engine, she will go nowhere fast without one of those) and texture edits then she will be complete (apart from hardpointing).

Thanks Syf, I plan on doing a couple of versions of this ship and release it here as a pack, as for what the versions are I will post some screenshots when they are almost complete.

Oh and the model is a tad over 1700 pollies, I could've had it smaller but I wanted it to look good considering it was my first model that I have been serious about and plan to do the full works too.

The modle looks great but the back enginering hull texture needs a little work. Its missing the impulse engines which form a ring around the back and the hanger bay doors also on the very back of the ship. Keep up the good work not enough A2 TOS ships out there.

Thanks Starfox, true she still needs work but she's getting there, I just finished getting her proportions closer to a image I found online, I was working off a SFC model before.

I am considering after this one attempting to make some other TOS style ships and stations.

1700 is for a first ingame model definately acceptable.

My first ingame model was a Daedalus class too!
I like that mesh, good work and KEEP IT UP!

Very nice :D, i will admit to not beinga huge fan of the design, but saying that im not too keen on any tos models.

I dont mean that to sound like im knocking it, it is a great looking model.

Thanks guys, I will be keeping it up and hopefully MSFC will become a popular place for TOS and Pre-TOS designs. :)

Many people especially the younger ones dislike or don't appreicate TOS having never grown up with it. I myself grew up on both TOS and TNG and thus have a appreication of both though I must admit that TMP is my favourite.

so you grew up with both, so u like the middle ^^

As i have said in another thread i was raised on TNG, i mean my parents still have the complete series on VHS, even though they dont have a VHS player anymore lol. And the only reason my dad doesnt wear his Worf t-shirt is cos my mum hid it, then forgot where she put it.

Pretty much.

Well I have given the Daedalus a rest and started a new model, bsed on a Pre-Tos design, I introduce the WIP Hyperion class.

Before anyone says anything, I know she is missing a bridge and I still need to figure out how to do a deflector dish but all in all not bad for several hours work. :)

thats a very nice model, the impulse engines on the back of the saucer make the model look like the excelsior design.

I to prefer the TMP type ships (where the miranda originated lol) but more than that it was the overall design, both the excelsior and the constitution class (refit obviously) looked beautiful. im not saying i dislike any of the era's designs (both the TOS and TNG era's have there highlights) its just TMP was um a good year so to spaek in the designs department lol.

still great modals, id love to try one day (ive drawn concept are for several short stories ive written) but there not really space craft, um their airships really but ive done a few star ship things. well keep on with the good work, i look forward to seeing more.

Looks like we have another modeller on the loose ;)

Good start Majest(ic) :p I gues TOS ships are a good place to start when modelling, due to their so-say basic designs.

I never thought of it like that.

That looks good Majestic, a TOS version of the YY Fed Assault Cruiser? :p

Again never thought of that, I was just following a image I found on goggle, but both ships are very close in appearance.

Well I have my fill of TMP with Yesteryears, just so you know I plan on doing a Surya and a TOS Miranda down the track.

A novice very novice, but as they say practise makes perfect and yes TOS are the easiest a reason I am doing it and I think it will benefit the community due to the lack of TOS models available.

EDIT: I have almost completed the Hyperion, I just need to model the bridge and deflector dish texture them and the neck.

There is an advice I can give you here:

Use more polygons for the saucer and less polygons for the main hull. The saucer is relatively large, compared to the rest of the ship and thus could use a little more, so it looks more round.

Thanks Intrepid, though I put more pollies on the main hull for a reason, to make it easier to texture and match all the lines up.

In anycase the model is finished. I completed her today and started work on a new one, so onto number three. :)

Thanks Creed.

Well here is the finished Hyperion, while not an exact dupliacte of the image I never intended it to be. I am also not as happy with this one as I was with the Daedalus class I did beforehand. Never the less it's complete and will be included with the pack of ships I plan to release down the line.

 In my dreams Jeddy.

I am still mastering the bare basics, hence why I am giving the TOS such a big treatment. I have re-started work on my third model after showing Syf it and getting some pointers in keeping the poly count down, considering the nacelles where too high and the main hull didn't have the correct amount of slices it's just easier to start over.

This new model is a TOS ship with a twist, something I have always wanted to do. I don't know when I will get pictures as my focus is going to have to be on the upgrade that is scheduled (at the moment) to start the day after tomorrow.

So was I, I can't do TNG ships, at least not yet. The new ship has to be the best yet and thanks to tips from Syf it's coming along nicely and I will soon be releasing a show and tell on her.

Thanks people. :)

 Syf asked me for the same thing, which ship would you like to see a wireframe for? Do you want it overlayed on the model or just a normal one?

just a wireframe shot, and whichever model you are currently working on is fine, easier to offer advice that way.
