The Praetorian turned out great, well done mate! :)

But I haven't showed a picture of the final product yet? :lol2: Who knows it could be horrid, perhaps you're confusing it with the Guardian?

In any case it's my next on the import to A2 list. I also did some work on the Chrysaor today, getting it ready for the texture process. Still unsure if her or the Solaria will get the texture treatment next.

It's all good, I am hoping this afternoon/evening to get the Praetorian in game so I don't make a liar out of you. :lol2:

No really I was going to add it anyway, just don't spread that around.

Yeah a major fan of the Guardian too I am. A little Cylon buster she is, beware of her stealth device you should. I have watched way too much Clone wars I have. Argh haven't been up this early for a while, in a funny mood I am... argh. I'll stop now I will.....

I've got the Praetorian in-game now. A few welding issues as on the Valkyrie, but I'll fix that down the track towards release. :)

gotta love the praetorian. can't wait to see in-game shots!

Also, nice fleet list. Do you mean to imply that we could get a few Columbia-style ships down the road? :yum:

Um... is yes the answer you want to hear? I want to get all the modern designs complete first, however I already have a in-progress Titan model that just needs engines. I am hoping that a possibility down the track is to have it timeline based, where you start off in the First Cylon War then tech up to the 2nd Cylon war, for all three factions. Yeah Colonials, Cylons and Terrans are who I am aiming for atm.

Well Terra, it's your lucky day, wanting a break from the newer designs, I opened up Coxxon's original Columbia class, removed the turrets and then using this texture as a base did a new Columbia texture to match the new style I am been doing.

I hereby want to present to you and the rest of the MSFC Community a new look for the Columbia class.

I'm thinking of doing the Defender, Olympia and Titan as well to match. After I armour up the Columbia of course. :)

Been a while since I updated this thread. Was looking through my older files from before my retirement and found these half finished ships. I may get around to finishing them, thought I would post them and see if there is any interest.

That second definitely looks interesting. Normally, I"m not a fan of ships without flightpods or some kind of landing strip, but that one is pretty cool. :salute:

Thanks mate, both were designed as Gunstars, the 2nd is my 2nd go at making the Titan, the first was released here on MSFC many moons ago. The rear indent is actually a hangar. The top one will have a flightpod, but only one coming out the back. Not all ships in BSG (at least in fandom but makes sense though) are carriers or carrier hybrids, and I wanted to show that with the Gunstars. I always felt Gunstars were like frigates, designed to support the Battlestars and were more aimed towards ship to ship combat.

Both of these are great and would make an awesome addition to any Colonial Fleet! :excited:

Yeah, I agree. I like to compare this to real-life navies. Of course, the aircraft carrier is almost always THE big, impressive capital ship, but they're expensive and can't be everywhere. The US Navy officially has 290 ships, only 11 of which are carriers. The bulk of the fleet is formed by cruisers, destroyers and frigates, along with other craft such as subs and amphibs. Following this comparison, you'd expect to see a lot more of these as part of the Colonial Fleet. (Of course, we haven't really seen a lot of the Colonial fleet on TV...)
The comparison is a bit off, since we're essentially reducing two battlefields (air and sea) into one (space), but I think it's close enough.

I'm going to agree as well. I always confess to feeling slightly annoyed when browsing 3D work and finding yet another design of battlestar. I mean, for the love of the Gods, it's just not economically viable to totally redesign your carrier every time you want a new one. So always nice to see non-capital-carrier designs

With BSG I often look at real world military. I feel that carrier groups (known as Battlestar Groups) are how the Colonial Military operate, with a Battlestar as the carrier and several Gunstar and smaller ships as escorts and such. With that in mind I feel that there would be more Gunstar designs, for different roles ,than there would be Battlestars. In my collection I have 4 Battlestars, 3 seen on TV and the Solaria of EAS_Intrepid's and My own design. I feel that is enough carriers. The rest I try to have support ships and Gunstars. Unlike a lot of other modellers, I mostly do Gunstars for this very reason.

EDIT: The Columbia gets an armour upgrade, brings backs the days of the Cylon war. :)

Thanks Terra, she is meant to represent the Cylon War era Columbia, before they were stripped of armour and decommissioned or in Galactica's case, turned into a museum for school children.

Some of the newer/later Columbia Battlestars would probably no doubt still be in this condition when the attack on the Colonies happened, Galactica was decommissioned after all due to being one of the original 12 Battlestars and 40 years old.

Excellent work there Maj, I particularly like the sabre gunstar. Reminds me a little of the strike cruiser from xwing games. Also, a little bit of the dreadnaught from sw. Great stuff!

Thanks Knight, I have a Star Wars Dreadnaught model actually, just not textured.

I also have something else more complete too. It's this mornings work. Decided to do a complete new texture of the low poly model I did some 18 months ago. It's under 800 poly's and I also did a classic look for the fun of it If anyone would like to see it released I'd be happy to send it off to Jetfreak.

800 polys seems about right for a fighter. I have to admit I've never been a huge fan of the VII's standard paint job, but this one looks actually good on it. I just love the classic one so much. :D Would be great to see this one out!

Thanks all, glad to see my work is liked. :)

Terra once Jetfreak finishes up on the large batch of models I sent him last week I'll see about sending that Viper his way for released. His time is pretty limited these days and I did give him a whenever you find time schedule for the releases.

Your armored Columbia is also very nicely textured.

Yeah that bugger took me ages, like 2 days to do it was a real pain in the rear end.

I have however done another ship, with a twist. The model is by Coxxon but the textures are mine. Any TOS BSG fan will know the Celestra, it had a whole episode dedicated to the ship after all. With a mutiny to top it off with. Rather than doing a run of the mill Celestra, I decided to do this with a twist. Using Coxxon's model and his textures as a base I hereby present the Cylon War era Celestra, a long range FTL scout with a ECM package to hide it from enemy Dradis. Armoured, for self defence but not overly so as she is designed not to be detected and thus her armour is only designed to stand up against fighter grade weapons.

The Columbia I did a couple of days ago inspired me to do this one. I feel that during the Cylon war, the Colonials wouldn't have much in the way of Battlestars and unified ships, a lot of their ships no doubt were inherited from the separate Colony navies and so all sort of designs would be utilized, as newer Battlestars and similar ships were produced.

Thank you both. The background story to me makes sense, part of the reason I did the design. I mean the Cylon revolt was totally unexpected, it caught the Colonies off guard to a point that they were so unprepared that they had to put old grudges behind them and united to survive. So they would be flowing with modern designs off the bat, they'd be using what they had as would the Cylons.

Now onto something new, this was a real pain, mapping the engines took me ages and I almost gave up when I struck gold. Not perfect, but will do, considering it's low poly at 1030 I think I can live with it. I also did three versions mostly for fun. The textures also work on Coxxon's original so you could user the higher poly version with my textures.

Thanks Avon, good to see you like the variant textures. :)

Being rather fond of the original Battlestar Galactica, having grown up with it, I couldn't resist.

I did the colour scheme the same as the MK II, so they can be used together. I also added some more customisation to this texture, I wonder who will see it first. :lol2:
