I was thinking of something like this:

Group 1
  • Frigate
  • Corvette
  • Corvette

Group 2
  • Frigate
  • Frigate
  • Corvette

Group 3
  • Frigate
  • Frigate
  • Frigate

Group 4
  • Support
  • Frigate
  • Frigate

Group 5
  • Cruiser (small)
  • Frigate
  • Frigate

Group 6
  • Cruiser (Large)
  • Frigate
  • Frigate

Group 7
  • Cruiser
  • Support
  • Support

Each warp-in group minus group 1 will need to be researched. Which keeps the balance a fair bit, and means just like FO you need to research and progress to get to the larger more powerful units.

And your ships look great!! I suppose you won't be releasing them separately huh?

Sorry no, but once released they can be used in other MSFC BSG mods.

That's right, you FTL them in. I feel it's a little unbelievable that ships will be built on the frontline, especially in BSG due to how real life they are with their military when you compare it to Trek for example.

I am currently drafting up a storyline, but basially it's set in a parallel universe (no surprise coming form me huh?) where the Colonials discovered the infected Navigation software before it was a total loss. While 90% of the colonies were destroyed and the majority of the fleet as well, Nagala and the Atlantia along with the surviving forces dug in at Virgon and managed to hold the line against the Cylons to a point it became an all out war.

Colonial list has been decided upon, I however do plan on introducing more down the track, mainly older Cylon war Galactic style ships. However I'll be making all new models instead of using the older ones that I have released.

Now I'll start with the flagship
[fieldset=Starting Units]
  • Nova Class Battlestar (Flagship)
Largest warship ever produced by the Colonies, only introduced a few sort years before the destruction of the Colonies and the onset of the 2nd Cylon war. Only four were ever produced, The Battlestars Nova, Prometheus, Atlantia and Endeavour.

  • Berserk Class Escort (Comm-ship)
Formally known as an escort, Berserk class cruisers can been retrofitted to be used as escorts to Nova class Battlestars and to be able to cut through most jamming and signal for reinforcements. While not good at capital ship combat, Berserk's can gun down fighters with ease.
[/fieldset]

[fieldset=Cruisers]
  • Mercury Class Battlestar (Cruiser)
Before the introduction of the Solaria and Nova classes, the Mercury was considered the top notch Colonial warship. With numerous build, most were devastated when the Cylons attacked. However many did survive and lead many battlegroups.

  • Solaria Class Battlestar (Cruiser)
Introduced several years before the Nova, the Solaria was designed as an updated Mercury class, built with experimental technology that was later used in the Nova Project. After the loss (and later founded) pathfinder of the class, the Solaria project was almost derailed. However the removal of the experimental hyperdrive system allowed the class to be massed produced. By the time the Cylons attacked only a mere handful were in operation, with most destroyed in the attack.

  • Valkyrie Class Battlestar (Cruiser)
The most numerous Battlestar, both before and after the outbreak of war, the Valkyrie comes from a time when Military spending was decreased and the Valkyrie was created as a cheaper alternative to the larger Battlestars. While dozens were destroyed in the initial attack, many managed to survive.
[/fieldset]

[fieldset=Support Cruisers]
  • Chrysaor Class Battlestar (Support)
Older Battlestar, that was the predecessor to the Mercury, Chrysaor's have been refitted to assist in fleet battles. As a Support vessel the Chrysaor assists fleet during combat.

  • Hermes Class Battlestar (Support)
Support Battlestar and variant of the Mercury class the Hermes is designed to carry double the fighter power of the Mercury in exchange for lower offensive and defensive power.
[/fieldset]

[fieldset=Frigates]
  • Guardian Class Gunstar (Frigate)
Small frigate designed for stealth, the Guardian class is equipped with a Stealth device allowing for covert scouting and attacks against enemy targets. However it sorely lacks adequate fighter defence.

  • Praetorian Class Gunstar (Frigate)
The successor to the older Cylon war era Defender Gunstar, the Praetorian is a much more modern design, and is used for picket duty and anti-fighter screening. Can be upgraded to support a 6 fighter squadron of fighters.

  • Cygnus Class Gunstar (Frigate)
A refit of the Cylon war era design, the Cygnus is often used for capital ship combat and boarding duties. And as such has a high crew cost compared to other Gunstars.
[/fieldset]

[fieldset=Corvettes]
  • Olympia Class Jumpstar (Corvette)
Another refitted Cylon War era design, the Block II Olympia is almost a total rebuild of the older Block I design. Used primarily for light capital ship combat and anti-fighter duties.
[/fieldset]

The class listing looks really good and well thought out, I like the backstory for each ship as well. The Praetorian is looking really good, you can clearly see it's an evolution of the Defender design

Loving that new Gunstar, very cool. Also I like the 'FTL-in' idea, seems to fit in well.

gotta love the praetorian. can't wait to see in-game shots!

Also, nice fleet list. Do you mean to imply that we could get a few Columbia-style ships down the road? :yum:

Thank you all, I am glad to see you all like her. I think she'll make a great partner to the Guardian. :)

gotta love the praetorian. can't wait to see in-game shots!

I will be waiting till they fix the mod support before I do anything drastic with the in-game part of the mod. Plus I want to get the Nova and Berserk models completed first.

I have also decided that I will see how the mod plays with the first release, if it's too difficult or easy I may introduce stations, however I am still aiming for the Nomadic approach first.

Also, nice fleet list. Do you mean to imply that we could get a few Columbia-style ships down the road? :yum:

Um... is yes the answer you want to hear? I want to get all the modern designs complete first, however I already have a in-progress Titan model that just needs engines. I am hoping that a possibility down the track is to have it timeline based, where you start off in the First Cylon War then tech up to the 2nd Cylon war, for all three factions. Yeah Colonials, Cylons and Terrans are who I am aiming for atm.

Indeed, especially it takes like 3-4 times longer to do a ship texture than the model itself. On average, it takes 24 hours to do a BSG texture, compared to 3-4 hours to do a Trek TMP/ENT texture.

Glad to hear it, I plan on doing at least 3 Battlestars and 4-5 Gunstars in that era. Oh and I will also be making new texture for each ship rather than the old bashing of Coxxon's textures to fit. This means each ship will have a more unique feel.

Also on a unrelated topic, the Cylons, I am thinking of having each faction play differently. So while the Colonials focus on warping in their units, the Cylons make temporary scaffolds and grow their ships. I am thinking of using the Borg as a template for the Cylons here.

I have also decided that in terms of individual unit power, the Colonials are the most powerful, followed by the Cylons and finally as the weakest the Terrans. So the Terrans will spam units like nothing else, An example, 1 Mercury could take on two Cylon basestars and be pretty evenly matched. However the Terrans will be 3-4 Battlecruisers to take on a Mercury.

Any how back to my work, here is the Praetorian again next to the Guardian for reference. I have also done work on the lower hull including getting all the lines and some of the armour in place. I still need to start on the pod and engines.

Praetorian_WIP02.png

I'm approaching a 1/3rd complete texture wise. It will be good to get this one complete then I will probably start on the Solaria as she still needs to be textured.

The texture looks excellent thus far Majestic, really nice work!

I really like the sound of the Cylons 'growing' their ships, it makes sense given how much of their technology is organic-based. Will thier ships be modular in the same style as the FO borg or will it just be a case of a different build system? (scaffolds rather than shipyards).

Looking forward to what you come up with :)

Well I am hoping for modules but I know how many odfs that can be. I am planning on modules atm, but I guess we will see how it all goes. They are however going to be the last of the three factions that I will be doing, considering how much work the module system will be.

Yeah that's understandable, only reason I asked is 'cos I was thinking of how much work setting up a detailed modular system would be for you lol.

As someone playing the mod I'd be happy just with the different system of building ships via scaffolds, with maybe a few modules here and there for maybe enhanced armour or additional Raider capacity or something; that way you could include the two varieties of Baseship we saw in the series without creating two classes for essentially the same ship.

Yeah I plan a few modules for some ships, for others probably not. Due to the amount of work that will be involved. I am thinking armour, missile batteries, regeneration (they are technically alive) and a few other similar modules.

With this mod however I do hope this will be a mod that I can continually improve upon after the first three releases. Updating it with every major FO release and adding new features including new modules for the Cylons.

I have also done some more on the Preatorian, I have competed the head and body sections and started on the support arm. After which the pod and engines along with the side of the main hull is all that remains on her. I have also redid the avatars and started some coding work to take a break from all the modelling and texturing work.

Here are some pictures, two showing the Preatorian and one with the fleet of completed and WIP textured ships.

Thank you, I am getting there for sure. It's the textures, they just take so long to do.

Anyway I have now got an in-game working version, at least up until I choose the avatar, the ship odf it transfers into is blank atm. I plan to make some progress over the next week on this. Got a busy week coming up so I probably won't get as much done as I did this past week.

Screenshots for you all.

Just a little bit of fun, throwing a ship ingame with a very basic hardpoint layout and odf file.

It's a place holder till I get the Nova class ingame as well.

I'm keeping it up, basically finished the Preatorian and have gotten a few more units in game, plus a basic warp-in.
