Isn't that the problem with any remake? I will give it a chance when it comes out.

I'm not saying I won't give it a chance. the plot still sounds intriguing, though not as good as the original IMO. Though i dont understand why David is making a Michael Knight cameo, even though it seems completely unrelated to the original. Maybe the mustang is a new shell developed for Kitt by a foundation scientist? who knows. certainly its worthy of taking a look.

As for the red light, when i say it wouldnt look right, i mean it wouldnt look right on the mustang... its far too angular and hard looking for something like that. Indeed, neither the atrocity that was 2010, nor TKR had the red light on their cars (though to be fair to TKR, they included a '99 Mustang Cobra which would have been ok, an F-150, a Ford Expedition SUV and 2 motorcycles - not to mention KRO, the F-355 which would have looked kick ass with the red light... or some representation of it. lets not forget, Karr was kitts twin, but had a gold light...). Nor did the Knight 4000 from Knight Rider 2000 (which reunited the original cast, except Bonnie and April and also featured Mitch Pileggi and Sam Carter's father from Stargate), until Michael installed Kitt's CPU into it. Which would also have looked cool had the car not been candy apple red too... (and i dont mean Michael's 57 Chevy Bel Air. That was blue.)

TBH, the best bet would have been to go back to Knight Rider 2000 and continue from there, as it is so far the only spin off to do well ratings wise.

That looks surprisingly good actually... enough at least for me to try. Other than that I can't say but, yeah I'll give it a go.

I'd even say that the car looks even more of a successor to KITT than the other designs, such as the 4000 or any of the Team Knight Rider vehicles (apart from the plane:lol: )

looks good enough to give it a go. I still think they'd be better off using Pontiacs latest firebird/trans-am equivalent (please god not the godawful solstice tho lol) rather than a mustang. at least they got kitts attitude right, even if the voice is... well, its just not Kitt lol. Kitt never said Mike, even when insulting him in Knight Rider 2000

Only problem with the Knight 4000 was the colour. it'd have been far more suitable in black than in bright red lol. not a fan of any of the TKR designs apart from the Ferrari they used in 'KRO' - the one that was evil lol.

well... considering that the plot description is more follow up than remake (for example, the hoff makes a cameo as michael knight, and the show is supposedly following his son) from what i've read it could be ok.

then again, tkr and 2010 were downright awful. Knight Rider 2000 apparently got a good response audience wise, and was going to be made into a series, but for some reason, that was cancelled. there are rumours that 6 episodes after the pilot were filmed, but were never aired. which is a shame, because it was surprisingly good.

did we whatch the same film?

the one with the red Pontiac Banshee lookalike (lookalike because they wanted to use the Pontiac, but weren't allowed because it was a concept car, so they made a look alike based on the shell from a dodge stealth)?

it was good, but each to their own i guess. it apparently did well in audience ratings, so it cant have been that bad.

I quite liked Team Knight Rider.

Admittedly, I saw it when I was young and before I watched an episode of the original; but from what I can remember it was good in both premise and execution.

Knight Rider 2000 was alright, but I never really thought the plot was very thick. It seemed to me that it was more of a series finale than the start of a possible knew series. Especially when Devon died and Kitt's original body was scrapped.

I'd watch KR2000 again, but would probably not enjoy it as much as the series.

each to their own lol. i only liked one episode of TKR and that was the one with KRO. i much preferred knight rider 2000 though because it was truest to the original in some ways. but neither were as good as the original

That I can agree on

I hope they do this new one well though; otherwise there might never be another chance

it looks like it has potential, despite kitt now being a mustang.
it wont be as good as the original though.

Yet another clip, and little sound bites from cast and crew:

YouTube - two minute new knight rider preview

The good news is, its now ok to like the new KITT lol. Because its not KITT.

The new car is the Knight Industries 3000, as opposed to the Trans-am from the original series which (for anyone who doesnt know) was the Knight Industries 2000.

According to most sources its not clear if its brand new AI in a new car, or an upgraded vehicle for the original AI - since this is supposedly a continuation of the original show, not a remake.

My bet is that they go the same route as Knight Rider 2000 - they'll make the new car (in this case, the 3000 as opposed to the Knight 4000 from KR 2000) and then implant the original KITT AI into it - certainly the clip where the new KITT says "they never learn" seems to imply that...

Indeed, now that I am sure its not a remake then the chance of success are higher.

I'm not gonna agree on the original AI thing for one simple reason - that'll split the old fans between who likes the new KITT and who hates the way the old one was put inside it.

Rather, I'd suggest that the memory of it was downloaded into the new one - so that it can remember being KITT even though it's KITT, not KITT

Erm...can we have another acronym please, this is getting confusing

I'm really looking forward to it. :D

By the way, even though also this car is named KITT, for it to be not confusing say KITT2. ;)

It certainly makes it more appealing to me, especially knowing that the new car, isn't KITT, and isnt supposed to be. and while i'm not swearing to it, I'm speculating a Knight 2000 cameo appearance too, since the 3rd clip shows the steering wheel from the original, and it looks to be in place too...

I think its likely... granted its Will Arnett, not William Daniels doing the voice so he sounds different, but at the same time, its like he's tried (and failed) to impersonate Daniels, because it sounds like Arnett tries to speak the same way Daniels did as Kitt with only partial success, and captures the same attitude.

So my personal belief is that theyre putting the original AI into a new shell, like they did in Knight Rider 2000. I can live with it, although i'd still rather the Trans-am returned lol. guess we'll have to wait and see how it turns out

why not clarify using their other names lol?
The original is the Knight 2000, the new one is the Knight 3000, and the one from Knight Rider 2000 was the Knight 4000

Well on Feb. 17th, I know exactly where I will be that evening.... watching the new Knight Rider. Since this is a true sequel, I think I am already a fan based on the previews.

I would like to have seen a more exotic car (like a Ferrari or something along that line of elite cars), but the Cobra Mustang will do.:)

i'll be forced to download it the next day to see it lol.

i still have my doubts, but i have a lot more enthusiasm and desire for it to do well since finding out its a sequel, not a remake, and that even though the cars called Kitt, its not THE Kitt. Or at least, the shell isnt. If it was a remake and they said that was the 2000, i'd be upset lol

looks cool.... though i'd love to know how they're visualising the voice in the car. like in the original, KITT had the red VDU with the oscillating red bars - Karr having a similar one but in green.

Or the Knight 4000 in KR 2000 with its oscilloscope representation of the cars voice..

Or in *shudder* Team Knight Rider, each car had a wireframe display in its monitor (that moved to a smaller representation in the corner when in use) that changed from green to red as the car spoke...

Personally, i hope they use something similar to the original car but sorta... i dunno, newer somehow

I loved the original Knight Rider series and strangely enough, I loved Team Knight Rider. I'm holding off on making any snap judgements on whether it'll be good, bad, or just sucks - to which I have lately been given to doing. I think, if done right, we'll get ourselves a superb reimagining worthy of the Annals of Sci-Fi History. Done wrong, well, wouldn't be the first time they screwed up a show we all love. If it just sucks, I owe some people money.

Methinks it may be a good show. (Can't be any worse than Viper...)

i've been trying not to judge it lol, and certainly, the information thats coming out (continutation not remake, the car is A kitt, not THE kitt) has made me more receptive to it... im lookin forward to it now, and hope its good... then we'll have knight rider back on the screens lol  :D

And another new video clip, this time showing us a bit of the action, and the inside of the car, and the first view of its voice display - seems to be a mix of the ones used in Knight Rider 2000 and Team Knight Rider to me:

YouTube - new knight rider trailer! 30 seconds!

The AI sounds pretty aggressive too.

In other news, Will Arnett has dropped out as the voice of the car due to contract conflicts (he's the voice over guy for GMC truck adverts, and obviously the new car is basically a Ford).

The car is now being voiced by Val Kilmer

YouTube - Hello Sarah - Knight Rider 1 Minute

and yet another new advert... not lacking for hype is it lol

Also, ford are giving away 4 cars, one of which is a Mustang KR500 GT

One thing i dont get.. the original Kitt was virtually indestructible. bullets just bounced off it. So why does this ones windows break at all? the regeneration effect where the car repairs itself is cool, but why does it need it? the cars supposed to be an upgrade, so surely it too should be virtually indestructible...

Looks good, waiting with baited breath for the UK release.

About the windows - even bullet proof glass scratches, an auto repair system gets rid of all that.

Plus it looks quite good :D

In an episode (don't remember the name) of the original series, it was said that the glass was something better than bulletproof. The bullets ricocheted back to the shooter if shot at the windows. That means the glass was not glass, but something else (a new material made for the series and only in the series).

Can't wait for the new series to get to Norway, by the way. :D
