• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Well, I can imagine Bush saying that!

BUT: (Yes, Continental Europeans are nitpickers) The Irnian Ambassador would have said 'Persians'! Arabs are Saudis or Iraqis, but Iranian people are Persians and they are damn proud of it.

Yeah well, we americans don't give rats rear. Besides if he had said Persians Bush would have wanted to know why he was suddenly talking about cats, he's that.... slow. ;)

"This thing that Cadets do — parading in unyielding formation, shining already gleaming boots, enlisting to sacrifice their lives on some unknown and unloved territory far from home — is not done out of ignorance, but out of faith. They have faith that the American values and resourcefulness do not lend themselves to meaningless death. They have faith that not only is freedom worth fighting for, but that we do not fight for any lesser end"

Barbara Ehrenreich:

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The Marine stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, Marine,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Marine waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you Marine,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

This line got my attention:

They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

because there is a also a sentence from "A Few Good Men" which is, in my opnion, so quiet true (as the poem posted by Harrie is):

Colonel Nathan R. Jessep (Jack Nicholson) said:
You want us [the Marines] out there. You need us at that wall, but you're not saying that on parties. You loath the Marines but you cover yourself with the blanket of freedom hat I give the people every day!

It's been a while since I posted ^, so hopefully this won't count as double posting . . .

This is for all Americans. I know that most of the world gives them up-hill about "sticking their noses in where they aren't wanted", but most don't see the amount of good that is done by them. And how many of them are lost in persuit of that goal/dream of freedom and peace. So, to all the US citizens on this site, the unsung heroes in their armed forces, and esp. my friend Hellkite, this one's for you . . .

The Star Spangled Banner

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

The new quote is up. Thought I'd get away from death for a bit and work on my newest novelty.

I'm quickly learning how true this quote is.

"To live would be an awefully big adventure!"
- Peter Pan

and now that I have more time, a few additions . . .

"It is said that leaving home is a very hard thing to do. I find that coming home is harder, because everyone asks questions you'd prefer not to answer . . ."
- Anonymous Friend . . . :)

"All men are born equal?!? That's like saying all men drive cars! It's true, but the make is important as well . . ."
- Best friend on Equality in our country. . .

. . .and the same frind on the concept of Paradise;
"You know something. I don't think Paradise is, or ever was, an actual place. I think it is within our minds. I think it was the innocence we lost as we evolved . . . who knows? Maybe we can find it again some day . . ."

And lastly, a joke:

An Army guy is sitting at a bar wearing a shirt that says "Marines suck".
Sure enough, two marines walk up.
One of the Marines says, "WHAT DOES THAT SHIRT SAY!?!?!?!"
So the Army guy responds, "That's the first thing I hate about Marines, they can't read."
The other Marine growls, "What did you say!?!"
The Army guy responds, "That's the second thing I hate about Marines, they can't hear."
Then the first Marine demands that they take this outside. Two minutes later the Army guy walks back into the bar unharmed. The bartender askes "What happened to the two Marines?"
The army guy responds, "That's the third thing I hate about Marines,
they bring knives to gunfights."

Phoenix, out.

All the lessons of history in four sentences:
Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad with power.
The mills of God grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly small.
The bee fertilizes the flower it robs.
When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.

It is useless to fight a God . . . unless you wish to become one. Then it's just plain suicide . . .
- Truth, or fiction?

I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya . . . punk?

- Peter of the Pan . . .

It is not enough that we live, for to merely live is easy. It is not enough to exist, for even the lowliest thing exists. If we acknowledge that we exist, and live, AND can shine as a diamond among the pebbles of the Universe, then we truly can say that we are alive!
- Dunno. Good, though . . .

A
Soldier's Prayer

Whenever you see this star, please pray for me,
For on a lonely journey, I will be.
Serving my country by protecting this land,
Created so uniquely by the Master's Hand.

Pray for my protection and safety as I go,
Deliverance from the evil snares of my foes.
Pray for my courage to stand brave and strong,
But humbleness to remember to whom I belong.

Pray I'll be the man God created me to be,
Cleansed by the blood on the cross at Calvary.
Pray that I'll take up daily the full Armor of God,
To guide and protect my footsteps wherever I may trod.

Pray for wisdom and discernment in every decision I make,
That I'll seek His will before each step that I take.
Pray I'll find comfort in knowing He's always there,
Trusting Him completely with all my burdens to bear.

Pray for endurance as I bravely answer this call,
Remembering that for me, He gave His One and All.
Pray that I'll lean not on my own understanding,
For only in Him is victory and true honor gained.

Pray for my family while I'm away from home,
Help them to remember that they're never alone.
Pray they'll trust the Sovereignty of His unseen Hand,
Focusing on the One who has a Master Plan.

Pray I'll find hope renewed and in Him, the strength,
If my spirit begins to grow weary and faint.
Pray that on wings like eagles, I will soar,
If I begin to feel that I can take no more.

Now, as this nation's freedom I go to defend,
Pray for my swift and safe return in the end.
Pray that in Him, I completely trust and obey,
As I fulfill the mission of "Enduring Freedom" for the USA!

I know the evil of my ancestors because I am those people. The balance is delicate in the extreme. I know that few of ;you who read my words have ever thought about your ancestors this way. It has not occurred to you that your ancestors were survivors and that the survival itself sometimes involved savage decisions, a kind of wanton brutality which civilized humankind works very hard to suppress. What price will you pay for that suppression? Will you accept your won extinction?
