Thank you all, I do feel the thicker pylons make her look better. They did look like they would break off.

Anyway here is the Dawnstar as it currently stands with Jetfreak's awesome textures. :)

The back of the neck needs work, due to my stuff-up. But it's looking great thanks to Jetfreak.

That looks nice with the bulkier pylons. I'm also liking JF's textures. You two make a good team.

i never did like the transition of the neck into the sec hull on this ship...it needs to either be blended better into the hull..or needs an impulse engine there...like the Galaxy and Ambassador.....its like the neck ends abruptly and the sec hull begins...idk....just something about it bothers me... Overall the ship looks fantastic as the new hull textures are def shaping up real good. and the thicker pylons look great as well...

I hope we arn't getting on your nerves:sweat:, but I have one more critique. Should the impulse engines be closer to the edge of the saucer? see the below examples.

Constructive criticism and positive suggestions never get on my nerves. It's one of the reasons I post these WIP threads.

As for the impulse engines, they are only texture based. Normally I would've modelled them in but considering the poly count of the model after I added the nacelles I decided to have them as textures instead. I feel they look fairly good where they are, my other original idea was to have a single one at the base of the neck like the Galaxy class or the top of the neck like the Ambassador.

Agreed, while it may be a good suggestion to move the impulse engines a bit back like the Sovy. We can still make an *ahem* excuse.

Thrust Vectoring.

Anyway, wowzers. I never thought the texture set would blend in so seamlessly. This definitely gets me more motivated to finish up the rest.

Hello:
I am liking what I am seeing, the Dawnstar sure looks like a ship from the same time the Sovereign class is (and with a similar mission profile if it has a huge shuttlebay in the aft saucer like the Sovereign too).

It may also be an alternative for the Galaxy class during ingame (near a specialized shipyards?) It can work for certain maps and it helps with variety :D .

It's actually the replacement for the ageing Ambassador and a similar size to the old girl as well. It's on the first page I believe where I posted it's stats.

Hello:
Well, the Ambassdor class sure deserves a longer life span that what we saw (or didn't see) in the series and movies. But I admit that the Dawnstar is quite the fresh air for the Ambassador class. I like that, like I would also like to see more of the original design still flying around... maybe one of each in a Jetfreak-style eye candy pic?.

As Maj's personal MSFC photographer, quality screenshots for our joint releases are standard issue. It's practically a win-win deal. :p

Texture progress report:
Current set is 80% done, having problems creating the bottom part of the stardrive though. From the looks of it, it seems that I have to "warp" them into proportion.

Just do the best you can mate, I'll be able to make it look good somehow if it doesn't line up. When it comes to apply textures I have surprised myself. The recently release Midway is just a prime example.

I will however need to re-do the back of the neck, as it doesn't line up with the side of the neck. That was my mistake however.

Also before I go away I'll send you the remaining parts that are needed, which is only the bottom of the saucer and the edge, along with a few minor areas which basically will just be windows.

But take your time with this, as I will be away for like 12-15 days with no major PC access so during that time you'll have time to work on them plus after I get back too as I am not in any major rush. I think you need to enjoy yourself and work on them when you feel like it, like I do with modelling. Otherwise it no longer becomes fun!

I have also almost completed another ship. I need to do it's nacelles as I ain't happy with them, need to complete the deflector, shuttlebay, pylons and a few other minor parts including the bridge. I'll probably post it when I get back. As tomorrow I need to get the car ready and the weekend we need to get our bags packed and whatnot. I can't wait! :excited:

It's all good, this has been a learning experience for me as well. It's my first true attempt at texturing.

You also have my best wishes.

Nice to see how she's coming along. Interesting configuration you've decided to implement, I do like those phaser strips on the nacelles. Nice shout-out to the Venture-Galaxy. It's great to see how excellently the Dawnstar blends three of the best exploration starship designs out there :)

Pulled A2 off my HDD about two months ago. Tired of it finally. This may be enough to make me put it back.

After much genuine effort and work behind the scenes, I'm happy to announce that our work on the Dawnstar is one step closer to completion. Majestic recently revived the project and we quickly jumped on the chance to finish up the textures and prep her for release.

My progress to finalize her and polish her up has been swell. Here's a beauty shot.

NewDawn2.jpg

Once I do the odf and a few more texture tweaks, I'll ship her off to Majestic to pack her up for release.

This has been a great project to work on and its been a real learning experience for both of us. For a first attempt at redoing a fairly popular ship, we pretty much did all right. ^_^

She'll be designated as a refitted Dawnstar in-game, with a new weapons suite and uprated engines.

Yeah I wanted a little surprise for the community, oh well perhaps next time. The model does still have flaws which are my fault with the texture application. I do plan on going back and doing a revamp at a later date to fix these flaws but for now the model stands pretty much as Jetfreak has posted. Although some additional hard-point work is needed as I noticed Jet has added in some new weapon points on the texture. :)

Whoops, tis' really my bad then , I really spoiled it this time due to my shortsightedness I suppose lol. Then again, its really not much of a surprise if there's a thread anyway.

Thanks for noticing the neat little addons I made Maj, I've sent the files to you.

Outstanding work guys! This is the first time I'll be having the Dawnstar in my personal install. You've done brilliant work here  :)

Thank you both, it's great to see that this long standing and frustrating project has paid off. I too have included it in my personal install.

Did you like the addition of 25 hero units?

I have been thinking of getting the Athos ready for texturing after the response we got from this, if of course you'll be up for another round Jet. I'll get my other models and projects (with the exception of YY) out first however.

That all depends on the hull design boss, the complex it gets the harder the work for the ship textures lol. But you should get all of your other WIP's done first, I also have my fair share too.

Once all is clear, then we can really focus and churn out these beauties you've got planned.

Sounds like a plan Jetfreak. Most of my designs aren't that complex. Plus I will as I did with the Dawnstar provide outlines of the mesh for you to work off. Plus information and guidelines to make it easier for both of us.

Now onto attempting to get a beta for COE out to the MSFC Community. :)

... Jetfreak's Archangel class...

Where can I find that, sounds tasty.

Sounds like a plan Jetfreak. Most of my designs aren't that complex.

I envy the fact you can simplify your designs. I can't seem to not make things complicated to recreate. Like I am about to submit an ideal design. I just can't help myself to describing it in lengthy detail.

Btw... I plan on trying the Dawn. Just that all my mods are not yet at a stage where I can test them yet. :|

The Archangel is on my to-do list, one of the many designs I have either started but not finished or have drafted to start. Got a few too many things to do first however.
