Been a while, this is my first model I've made with the intention of selling. Now that I have gone from doing free releases to trying and making a few dollars on the many hours I put into these types of things. Haha.
Part of my Clone Wars Extended project that is a partial reimagination of the Clone Wars and also extends the conflict due to Darth Sidious being ousted as a Sith and man behind the war, so he takes command of the CIS and turns it into a full war, with the intention to wipe out the Jedi and conqueror the galaxy.
This design was heavily inspired by a unused concept for Episode 3, which never saw the light of day. Always a fan of the design, years ago I made a really low poly version of this design. This is a higher poly version but still rather low as it's designed as a spam unit for old RTS games like Sins of a Solar Empire and Empire at War. Below is an in universe description of the design and my intentions of the design.
Kuat Beta 4 Celer D-wing Interceptor
Designer: Walex Blissex
Manufacturer: Kuat Drive Yards
Line: Kuat Delta Series
Type: Interceptor/Snub starfighter
Armament: 4 Rapid Fire Laser Cannons
Engines: 2 Ion Engines
Crew: 1 Pilot, 1 astromech droid
Originally designed and produced exclusively for the Galactic Republic’s Judicial services as a peacekeeping force, the D-wing is the direct predecessor to the more popular and effective V-wing. Entering service in 27BBY, a mere 5 years before the outset of the Clone Wars, by the time of the outset of war a large number of these were stationed on Judicial corvettes and cruisers.
Unbeknown to the senate and Jedi order at the time, a huge number of D-wing’s were produced by both Kuat and Rothana (a Kuat subsidiary company created to build the early GAR forces) in preparation of war. When the GAR was launched from Kamino just before the Battle of Geonosis, carriers and combat vessels were full of D-wing interceptors who took to the skies about the CIS planet fighting off trade federation vulture droids and covering Z-95 headhunter starfighters as they helped in attacking Lucrehulk and munificent CIS warships.
They served exclusively during the first years of the war as the GAR’s only light fighter/interceptor unit (other than the Jedi orders Delta 7, 7B and Eta 2 lines) but were ultimately supplanted by the newer V-wing line in late 18BBY, where the remaining D-wings were slowly regulated to planetary defence forces. Many still saw action after Darth Sidious, who was ousted as the Sith Lord and person behind the war, took full command of the CIS in 18BBY and escalated the war the following year with many Republic planets under constant subjugation and assault from the CIS droid navy.
Eventually they were fully supplanted by the V-wing with many sold off to independent factions allied to the Republic. Like the V-wing, which was replaced many years later itself, was a critical component of the early war and helped to fulfil a critical need in a war that ultimately should never had happened. Several versions were saved for the war museum that was opened on Christophsis after the conclusion of war in 0BBY.
Youtubers, if used in your video credits are required at the end of the video, not just in the description. That includes if it's in someone else's render. Credit is all I ask.
Modelled in Milkshape 3d, textures in Photoshop CS6 and rendered in Daz Studio.
