Yes, it is. I have heard it is hard to use for PS users, and it takes a while to install/boot the first time, but it has some good features if you know how to use them. I only use gimp, so I couldn't really tell you how it is comparatively, but it works for my needs.

before you go and download it though, I would check to make sure whatever program you currently use doesn't have a bumpmap filter. It seems like something that would be commonly used.

Well I make models in milkshape and use paint shop pro for textures.

After doing a quick google search, it appears that psp has a displacement map feature, but it is not exactly what is in GIMP and might not be as easy to use. Still, its effects are supposed to be similar.

Hello:
I am glad that you liked my new TOS basestar, but I do have a model of the Moedusa and another one from Ravenstar (not Colonials as some are quirky o_O ) . I was thinking in making all of those designs to have a more complete Cylon tos fleet whenever I go back into BSG. So those ships will eventually be made, either by me or by Score as those designs are very plausible.

As for the Valkyrie, I saw some specs and also that is the size that allowed me to fit all Vipers into the launch tubes... as we know Vipers' canon sizes. We just cannot use the size comparison from the Scorpon Fleetyards scene from Razor since some ship go the "Klingon BoP size syndrom".

no, no, no, no, no, we cant use the scorpion fleet yard image as even ZOIC have said there were major scaling issues. I go by the pics in 'the plan'. Chili, give me a shout on msn and ill explain :) I also have come up with several TOS designs I will make and wish to get feed back on :) Stay tuned as im workin on Cylon stuff at the min.

A bump map is a separate texture overlaid on the primary texture which adds light and shadow to give depth to the projections and fittings depicted on the texture. Using an additional texture to enhance another is very resource intensive for a game engine such as A2. The other method is to add the bump map directly to the primary texture which is my preferred method since it means the game engine only has to work with one texture, not two. By using the filter in a graphics application, it is possible to "shift" the texture by one or two pixels in any direction to add the same idea of light and shadow caused by projections and fittings on the texture. In effect, the user's eye is fooled into thinking the projection or fitting is actually above the plane of the texture because of the placement of light and dark pixels along either side of it.

As an example, here are a pair of pics of RyderStorm's Cylon Basestar, MkI. I applied a one hex bump map directly to the texture after sharpening the detail and despeckling/blurring some of the jagged edges. I then sent the whole lot back to RyderStorm for him to do what he wanted with. I am unsure if he released it anywhere though.

He certainly did a very fine job, didn't he, Z? All I did was D/L what is already here and then tweak it. I sent it to him and he "oohed" and "aaahed" like I did something special. Easy enough to do when one starts with such quality work to begin with. One of the places adding a bumpmap directly to the texture really shines is with something which has a very dark coloration, Such as Mike McKeon's import of Coxxon's Blackbird, seen here. As with all texture tweaks, less really is more.

I think everything I sent to kjc733 for BSGHRM was bump mapped. Score, if you'd like I can send you the textures I have. I've applied the "Akira Treatment" to them and cleaned up the lightmaps. They are all Coxxon's originally anyways.

I believe they were. I'm pretty certain the HRM RyderStorm baseship had your enhanced textures as it came up when I double checked the permissions.

Do you want bumpmapped versions of Coxxon's original textures, which are very large, or the more A2 friendly versions which are sized at 512 x 512 pixels? I did not change Coxxon's filenames for the textures and I believe I only reduced the battlestar textures to 1048 x 1048 pixels, so they would not lose too much detail. Also you'll need to send me an email address via PM, please.

Ok, went on a limb and am workin on a Guardian Baseship. Will take about a week to do with the time I have but I need some textures. Does any1 know if there is a high poly textured one out there? Any1 know how to make textures and would be willing to do this ship?

Score. Your out of luck on the CGI version as I've not yet come across one. When doing the BSG mod I was helping with I spent nearly a month scouring as many sites as possible.

Could you post pictures? I might be willing to give it a shot if the ship model isn't too complex.

Cool, please do. I plan on getting back into modding and modeling soon, so a texture job for a skin job might be a good refresher.:naughty: Maybe anyways, I'll make sure it is not beyond my abilitys. Wouldn't want to disappoint.

Well there are plenty of screen caps of the ship out there. It is a simpler texture than the TNS Basestars.

Ok, here is another Cylon ship, The Guardian Basestar:

TNSGuardianBasestar.jpg

The Model was sent to me by Chili so I thought it faster to tweek his and the textures rather than finish mine (for now).

Yeah, its a nice model. Very clean. Textures are also nice but did need 'roughing up' a touch. Im on a role with Cylon ship ideas right now, its just getting the time to make the models :(

Well progress is progress, and considering this mod has been considered dead for years that's more than a lot of us were expecting  Looking forward to seeing more :D

Very nice I had also planned on doing one but never got to do it. I also have a Cylon Frigate design, one that Dan Shared with me a while back. I can post images if interested.

Chiletrek is one of the most under appreciated mesh makers in all of the Star Trek gaming community. This is merely one of the examples of his fine work. All of His BSG stuff is something I've wanted to see released somehow, somewhere for a very long time. Chile has a knack for capturing everything I like most about a certain ship. His original BSG ships are something else indeed. BTW, Score, did any of those textures I sent you via email help out any?.

I can see how the 'effect' works but its not true bump mapping. With my graphics setup the Galactica was to dark and the ribs seemed to blend together (I think Coxxons textures are a bit detailed for A2 as it is), lol. Still checking out the rest though.

Okay then, don't use them. I offered to help. Sorry it didn't work out the way you wanted.

Hello:
Maybe some steps were missing? maybe some more work must be put into it, but I am sure your textures can help a lot Thunderfoot. But as for me, there is no way I can live without your work on the Physics Files :) .

I am very glad you have all liked the Guardian basestar I have made, in fact, it was made already a month or two ago, one of the many models I have made that are still not ingame ready, so Score will have to hardpoint the model to be used on BSA :D . I will also make my own hardpoiting at a later date so I can make my own releases too.

And also I'd like to finally start learning some of 3ds max, so I can add bump maps somewhat easier since I can make use previous steps of my own textures as guides.

Keep it up Score!
