• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hello, MSFC Community!

We're a little late, but: It's Poll Time again. This time, it's all about computer games. Which type of game do you prefer? Some people are into RPGs, other prefer strategy games.

Did we miss something? Is your preferred game type not in the list? Then tell us, please!

That's it for now. We'll be back in two weeks to bring you the next poll. Until then, vote and have fun!

Does 'jump and run' refer to platformers?

I'd have thought so. That's what I'd call most of them (I'm looking at you Mario :))

Anyways, RPG for me. I loves me a good storyline and character progression I d; and there's something quite captivating about crafting a character until defeating that one final boss and watching the ending movie...

Well... Over here people have always called them Jump'n'run, so... I guess yes.

Hmmmmm, its a tough choice for me. I like Strategy games, but I also like simulators. I also like some shooters(though not many)... Wow, I like almost all of them. Not too fond of RPG's or racing though.

I like almost all Scifi related games I guess. No need to worry about reality when you are exploring what could happen in the future.

I"m not sure what an Adventure game is. I would assume RPG covers that.

And what does Portal count as? Its like an RPG/Action/platform/shooter game.:lol2:

That's why we have multiple choice polls, just click everything that fits. Even if it means you have to click everything :p

More like Point&Click... these are the classic games of exploration and puzzle-solving. Most of us have probably played one of those. They were fairly popular in the 80s and 90s. Com'on! Don't tell me you've never done something like "Okaaay... if I use the flashlight with the broken gun, will it give me a phaser? *click* *click* D***. Doesn't work. Maybe try it with the discharged battery?"

I checked half of them :lol2:. RPG, strategy, shooter and adventure, which I think of as being not quite an RPG but still having several of the traits, like Zelda. I generally like my games to have a fairly decent story, but if the gameplay is good enough to counter the horrible plot I tend to let it slide.

Racing games, and platformers are fun, but they don't generally hold my attention for very long. They tend to be too easy for me and that takes some of the re-play value off. There are only so many times I can beat a race in Need for Speed with a 15 second lead before it gets dull.

One of my favorite games falls into several categories and is called Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising. It combines strategy, stealth, third-person shooter, squad based combat, and vehicle combat to let you complete the missions in any way you see fit. Sadly, the lack of a multiplayer mode and the company that made it going bankrupt means it never really caught on.

EDIT: I don't really like the Adventure games that Terra described. The trial and error style gameplay tends to annoy me.

Yeah, I too am not much of a fan of adventure games. I do own Discworld I and II; but mainly because...well...it's Discworld

Sorry guys, I voted for EVERYTHING!!!

I really do love all game types (except the really obvious marketing ploy targeted for children and so therefore the developers didn't put a lot of effort into the game type games...)

I really do - from the Super Mario RPG to Duckhunt and from the really frustrating keepy uppy game here at MSFC (I WILL TAKE MY HIGH SCORE BACK FIREHAWK...) to MechWarrior4, through European Air War, Left4Dead2, Super Smash Bros. Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, ALL of the Legend of Zelda games (including Zelda BS, the Japan only release on the Famicom) to IK+ on the old faithful Commodore 64, hell, even Crystal Castles on the Atari2600 (I even still have a soft spot for the side scrolling shooter Robocop 2 in the C64 gaming console...)

As for point and click adventure games... Anyone remember the Space Quest series? I loved Space Quest IV...

I really do like games...maybe a little too much...

Pretty much racing and simulators for me. For the console games, I've been closely following the franchises of Gran Turismo, Ace Combat, Need For Speed and Burnout. A little bit of fighting games as well, like Soul Calibur and Naruto Ultimate Ninja. Of course, A2 counts as a space combat simulator.

I had always thought of Armada as a Real time Strategy game, verses Legacy, which is a Space combat simulator.

I think I have to agree with CABAL the most. If you don't count Adventure as those kinds of point and click games, then i do like them. I suppose there is a fine line between RPG and Adventure. Like I guess those starfox games. Those were adventure I guess(not the flying ones of course) and then theres Zelda, and maybe the story mode in Super Smash Brothers Brawl. I do like most games, though I'm not generally very good. The only one I really don't like is racing. I don't mind the occasional RPG or shooter(like KotOR or SW:RC/ SW:Bf1,2) but nothing about driving around in circles seems fun to me. Even when the maps are interesting. I guess its like some shooters to me. If the shooter isn't as fun as paintball, then no use paying $60 to buy it. And why would I buy a race car driving game(really? 400 laps and then you win?), or off road racing game when I have a Jeep:)?

Oh well drat..... I just thought of the one or two I will tolerate. Mario-kart... But even then, I haven't played that in almost a year.

I'm a semi-all-around gamer. RPG's, Shooters, Strategy, and simulators, though I don't do simulators much anymore, RPG's pretty much filled the the niche of doing something I couldn't really do.
