• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

What is the most memorable thing that happened to you today?

To Zaxxon, Majestic, and CABAL, This is why: (Climatic Music)

1: we are by any deffinition, Amature Storm Chasers, Forest Fire Falls into that Catagory, the Police thing was just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time:eek:

2: i don't know really, as we were leaving the forest fire site, (We were about a mile away on a back road, we had hiked up to a ridge where we could see it,) we found some golf balls, so i thought why let them go to waste, gone to oblivion in fire??? i don't think so, so we took them, and in a momentary bout of insanity, we threw them ut the window on the way home, again the windsheild was just happenstance:thumbsup:

:ty:well.... there ya have it:ty:

the reasons why i was doing stupid things today

Well, I learned today that when I had to go on orders and had to leave my truck with my brother. He did not drive it as nicely as I thought he had. I don't have a lead foot bc it is old and I don't like testing the engine till I can put money in it....Well, today the engine practicely blew up on me. It is obvious that someone pushed the engine more then they should have and I know it was not me. Looks like if I ever get the money I will have to replace the engine in what was my only working vehicle...

I agree. Unfortunately I am now without my own car/truck. I got the RX-7 that needs and engine. Now the truck might end up with a cracked head. The only saving grace is my gf's minivan.

So far this morning the most memorable thing I remember doing is making coffee....mmmmm coffee...and now drinking it.

I made six cans of coffee today. For six people stretched over a 12-hour shift.
Though I'd rather prefer black tea over it, I like it as well.

Something else:
Today, we attended a myocardial infaction. The guy had all the symptoms, the ECG clearly showed an ST-Elevation. Textbook case,
And his daughter (30-something) asked us if the meds we're using are really necessary. Aspirine (which is primarily a blood thinner, not a painkiller) and morphine (to fight pain and take some strain off the heart) because, well, they never use meds. Well, they go to a practicioner who uses alternate medications but not the "pharmaceutical stuff people use today" because "that is what makes people truly sick". She started swearing at the EMS doc.... And she said, that her father does not have what we say he has, we just want to make money.....
BTW: It was her dad who called emergency services.

This may not seem severe, but it is: she would have rather put her father's life on the line that to call someone from the bad evil, standard health agencies. This is not just a "one in a million" instance. This happens regularly.... :yuck: :x

And if he had died, would she then have found an attorney to sue the "practitioner" for medical malpractice? We have the same problem over here. You, my friend, are part of the safety net which allows people like this to do as they please. Because they know if they screw up, trained professionals will be on hand or nearby to cover their mistakes. Isn't this sort of thing against the law in Germany? I seem to recall it was when I lived there.

I'll say it and not care one bit who reads it. You are a far better person than I am. Had I been in your situation, the very second she started the nonsense, I'd have been packing my kit up to leave them to their own remedies.

It's sad that people can completely disregard hundreds of years of achievements and research and just listen to some guy who's probably basing his work off of some other guy who spent ten minutes on research.

Anyway, how's the father? It sounds routine so I'm assuming he's fine but I kind of want to be sure.

"that is what makes people truly sick"

I think what really sticks out for me is this bit. Somehow the medicine for the problem actually causes the problem but - and this is the clever bit - it does it in the past!

I knew someone like that once. They always said that doctors/nurses/researchers and whatnot only ever wanted money, that they created thousands of diseases that don't really exist that the body can fight and everything. Also went on about how taking a multi-vitamin every day is the best medicine available.

I pointed out to them that the cost of medicine on the NHS was a lot cheaper than any of the products in the so-called alternative medicine field. Plus the fact that any medicine there has been rigorously tested and tailored to your specific symptoms.

I have to say, as well, that I'd be inclined to agree with Thunder. If they thought that they knew better, then I'd probably get rather...tetchy .

Well, if would have her being my patient I'd probably said to her "okay, then we pack our stuff and you see how you get along with your medical condition..." but that would have also get me conflicted with §323 StGB "Failure to Assist a Person in Danger" and could get me into jail or at least have me pay money for the rest of my life... not included loosing my job and never ever get a new one in my field again.
But it was her, otherwise vital and even quite funny, father who can make his own decisions. Actually, and that is of course the other side of the coin, he was very thankful for our work. He never needed us before and he was "sorry for troubling us".
She talked him into it, And I bet she would have called a lawyer to sue someone. If its not her "practicioner" it would be us.
While we got him into our ambulance, she wanted to ride along. NO GO! We only do that when children are involved, because parents can usually calm their kids down better than we can.

Exactly. Quoted for truth!

Anyway, how's the father? It sounds routine so I'm assuming he's fine but I kind of want to be sure.
He arrived well at the hospital. He probably got into a CT as quickly as possible and into an OR afterwards. We have some really neat minimal-invasive techniques to counter AMI (Acute Myocardial Infaction).
We rarely get follow-ups, but I guess he's gonna be fine and talking his daughter out of her stupid beliefs. :lol2:

Wow, what a story! I have a hard time believing that such things can happen in our country ... it is incredible how far people are willing to go if they are blinded by others ... I can just say thank you for your dedication, it is good to know that we have people like you!
I've had my own experiences with our medical system, including a very altering one ... but that is off-topic ...

I understand exactly how you are thinking, EAS. And I concur wholeheartedly with you. I'd also like to point out I admire your professionalism and dedication to your career field. A rare thing in the 21st Century it is to find someone who does their job well simply because it is their job.

I get fresh crop of students every Monday. About one in twenty or so are really interested in becoming professional drivers. The rest are just here until the next place to be comes along shortly. Most people think it is an easy thing to drive an eighteen wheeler. "I drive all the time! I like driving! How hard can it be?"

Then we start talking about the important part: backing one of these up without damaging anything.

Let's see...taught Sunday School, and spent about fifteen minutes of class trying to teach an older gentlemen that was sitting there how to access scriptures on his new iPhone. Made me laugh, good stuff.

Around 4 o'clock in at night in a small village in the state of Brandenburg: While we are loading up a patient into the truck, an Audi coupe races by. Speed somewhere around 70km/h (top speed in cities, town etc: 50). Just two seconds later three police cars with lights and horn in more or less close pursuit. I just looked at my colleague and shrugged.
At first we wondered if they're shooting a movie or something. In that village nothing ever happens!

As I checked the Police press service this morning I found out, the guy who drove the Audi stole it in Berlin and was fleeing the Police, who in turn took up their pursuit. The car had been stolen. And they got the guy.

Wow, and to think I felt justified today because someone asked me via text "Are you alive?":naughty:
