Yeah I aim to get substance in the future. Atm it's plain old photoshop. Which do you use first when creating a texture?
Oh with Substance you're pretty much painting from the get-go. I mean there are some built in libraries of things like preset materials, normal map patterns for vents, screws, etc. And there are some cool smart materials out there.

But in general I just get the UV mapping done in Blender then import that into Substance and get going. Most of my models use similar approaches to things like generative dirt/edge wear, and once you've got a good material defined you can bundle that up and save it as a smart material that can be used on other models.

Awesome, I really need to invest in it. It's pricey but will sure pay itself off.

I'm constantly impressed with the quality of your texturing.

Took a stab at the Orion vessel that appeared at the end of S4 of Lower Decks:

I haven't watched season 4 yet, but I know I'll enjoy it as much as the first 3.

I thought it felt familiar.

Hello:
Ohh, it looks like the Hideki, so perhaps a sibling/cousin ship? The hull colouring looks great, although I am personally no fan of those glows over the bridge... but that's just me :D .

Ah, blame whoever designed it on Lower Decks!
I think we'd need to wait for some kind of reference book to explain what they were going for with it.

Ok, I will blame them then :lol2: .

I hope it will say why whenever it comes out. otherwise you may have to create something, or let others do it.

Beautiful work as always mate, you're an inspiration to us modellers.

Look's like the next evolution to the Hideki. A post war next step in Cardassian tech. I'd like to think post war Cardassian tech would also incorporate Dominon tech as well.

Trying out some non-canonical Suliban models. It's kind of hard to avoid going down the Borg route, given how their on-screen ships were shaped...

This is the Alnek class Fleet Command Cruiser. Along with the attached Cell (Kosal class in my mod) and Long-Cell (Movel) ships, it's command module is an attached Movez class Frigate, essentially the fore part of the on-screen Salvage vessel.

Hello:
I know what you mean about the Borg route, but you made a great work making something unique that suits the Sulliban!

Yeah, I used the front portion of the Salvage Ship and made it a Frigate (with a Heavy Frigate version that has an extended rear engine pod and torpedo mount). But that's the design aesthetic I wanted to use for their main ships that weren't "cells".

TBH for ages I used to think that the Salvage Ship was using the chonkier longer Cells as components, but when I looked into the reference material I found the sleeker version a bit more workable.

Might end up trying to fill the gap between sizes with some more in the same style. Though I've also got the Stealth Ship as a starting point, so...

Love the designs. A more traditional style of ship does make sense, I doubt their entire fleet was build using cell's. Additional hard hitters would be needed, especially in later eras like TOS.

Very impressive, the way you're going you'll have a complete fleet in short order.

Hello:
Would their ships be made by connecting parts? Or it was just the method you used to keep fleet consistency?

Yeah, the intention was that the middle section is a kind of connector.

If you look at the Salvage ship, it's made of three distinct cell types (and the middle structure). The front, the aft (which also has an impulse attachment) and the side/top/bottom parts:

With the Movulu Cruiser I posted, the front would be the same as the Salvage ship front, attached to the rear part, with a different middle section.

Hello:
That can be very fun then, so you can make several types of ships and customizations.

Returning to the Confederation of Earth aesthetic from Picard Series 2, texturing and tweaking a model a friend put together.

It's based on Sean Tourangeau's concept art for their Forrest class Destroyer. I've given it a SNW-ish material.

Walshicus, that Fed ship is sharp. Just enough weathering, but not overboard with it. You achieved a great balance. Do you create your textures in Photoshop 7 or such??? I ask as I am trying to learn how to achieve this effect.

Some are started in Photoshop, but mostly it's about layering dirt and weathering properly with the right brushes.

Not a huge fan of Discovery S3, but I wanted to bring in the United Earth Defence Force ship for something in my mod, so here it is!
