• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

I have been invited to take part in the close Beta for The Settlers by Ubisoft. It is an RTS game similar to Civilizations and Age of Empires. I will try to post screenshots and videos of it here.

Here is the trailer for it.

For those that aren't familiar with it, The Settlers is a long running series with the very first game having been released in 1993 by a small German video game company. As a kid I played the absolute carp out of part III, and I've also played other parts over the years (IV, the II remake and VI). While mechanics have changed throughout the years, the series has always focused more on building your settlement (hence the name) and watching the little people go about their work rather than complex combat. There hasn't been a new game for about ten years though, so it will be interesting to see what they've come up with.

EDIT: I think most (if not all) of the older parts are available on GOG, by the way.

Started the game this evening. The artwork is absolutely stunning. Gameplay so far is a little buggy. That is to be expected as it is a beta. So far, only the tutorial and skirmish are available to play.

I have recorded a short 5 min video of the first tutorial that I will post here once I get it uploaded to youtube.

As promised, here is my first video for this game. It is just a play through of the first tutorial.

I ended up getting too busy an missed the rest of the Beta. I did play through the second tutorial but didn't record it. It covered the combat of the game. It honestly felt very similar to any other game of the genre.

This does look fun. I play a lot of this type (Cities Skylines, Frostpunk, Cliff Empire, Northgard, Surviving Mars) to name a few. I'll keep checking out your updates. Is there a multiplayer aspect? Maybe we could get a future game going if so once it's out?

There was a quickplay available for the Beta. Not sure about online though. It seems they were looking mostly at the foundation of the game for us to test. I do wish I had been able to get in more time with it.
