• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Well, I for one can't play the mod at all. When I start it up in the selection screen, and when I hit launch game, it crashes immediately. No idea why.

What are the unresolved bugs? :)

Well theres one. The game crashes when you have more than one AI in it appears, and then the other bugs are problems with the AI still, not firing on your ships aggressively. They do fire now, but I want them to fire on any ship in sight, not just one when it shoots first and is in close range. Also, the AI bombers also have a regular proton torpedo(non special weapon) that does not use primary target, but I still never see them fire on my ships.

@ISS
Try playing with one AI on the map I provided(just because pathing is easier without moons.) See if that works.

Ah, I can't replicate that "extra AI crash" - in all the games I've tried with the mod I've had more than one AI. Do you happen to have crashlogs that I could take a look at. :)

As for the second bug, I'd need to see the ODFs to understand the root cause.

EDIT:
see post after Zaxxon's

edit:
The first is instant Action, and the second is multiplayer(if it makes a difference.)

Hm, looking at your AIPs, I see you left out the following build lists. These can be empty and just be referencing each other, but I know that games have the tendency to get unstable if they can't reference what they are supposed to.

I also edited my previous post.

I am not entirely sure what to do with that last line. Could I simply copy the federation build lists and rename them?

Yup, you can just copy (deleting the buildlist contents) those buildlist files :)

Both of those reports call the techtree files - did you write down which avatar you were playing in both instances and what units you were using prior to the crash? I'd assume a simple missing reference or incorrect reference is to blame there (either in the ODF being referred to or techtree file)

Heh, that should be pretty easy since I have virtually no techtree. the game crashes before I chose an avatar and the AI always chooses the first.

Alright, so just like my BSG mod, this one is also active once more. The difference is, this mod, being overall newer than my BSG one, is closer to a release. It is kind of a test bed for a lot of features, so gameplay is pretty simple, but I am trying to prolong it by adding some neat specials to the ships and more buying options.

New features will include small combat frigates, tuned specifically for capital or fighter support.

I will also be adding a new ability to save ships damaged, but more on that later on down the road. For now, I am also fixing voice overs and fighters, replacing the outdated arc-170, and adding a lower poly V-wing. I'll try to post some teaser pics later, but I also want to try my hand at video's so if anyone has any tips concerning that, I would appreciate it greatly. :salute:

How many poly's was your V-wing? If you don't have an issue with my restrictions (I know they are a bit strict but they are for my own protection) you're welcome to use anything I release.

Thanks for the offer maj! I am not sure what the current poly count is, but I am probably going to make it reallly low because of how small these guys are in my mod. I may, at some point, make a patch that uses your models, as an msfc exclusive, but for now, since my bsg mod is already that way, I would like to keep the star wars one unrestricted.

Also, as promised, proof of progress. :D

Thanks Boss. :) Did a bunch more work on the Consular today, one of my favorite ships in star wars.

Numerous tweaks include, rescaled engines, adjusted hardpoints, completely revamped turrets, other small details, and some texture adjustment.

Nice did you make the texture yourself? Or edit it to suit your needs and likes?

The Texture on the consular was adapted from Amateur's original Acclamator texture(or Venator), using it as a base, but all the details were done by me. :) Because I love this ship so much, I am currently rebuilding some of the larger sections, making them much higher poly, and scaled a little more properly. In the attached image, you can see the mid section and engine have been finished, and the two remaining engines are next. Some other details will probably be added as I get the time. :D

I am going to end up literally doubling the poly count of Amateur's previously low poly model.

Also, I must thanks you again Maj, as I wouldn't have been able to do this at all had you not told me about the slices and stacks setting on the milkshape cylinders.

You're welcome about the MS3D settings, I feel it's every modders/modellers responsibility to pass along suck knowledge to help others. Using the extrude tool is also very handy for cylinders when you don't have enough stacks to begin with and don't want to remake the whole cylinder.

What poly count are you aiming for? I did a version that was close to 4000 poly's.

[fieldset=C70]C70 Class
Known as the Consular class before the war, during the outbreak of the Clone Wars where ships were far and few for the Republic Corellia retrofitted the Republic's fleet of Consular class vessels into frigates/corvettes to serve in the conflict.
Today many are found in private hands with many more in the Corsec Security forces (Corellia System Security Fleet) and some in hands of pirates.

I don't know how accurate it is, and it hasn't been textured yet. I look forward to seeing yours complete, hopefully you'll get one lower poly than mine. I wasn't looking for a low poly unit. I think my limit was 3500-4000.

Yeah, this one is already at almost 2400 polys, up from the 1800 before the most recent edit. Amateur's original was close to 1200. :Y

Since this is a FO mod however, and almost all my other ships are Amateurs, and thereby extremely low poly, I don't have a problem giving this one a little extra love.:yum:

Also...I will now have to try out the extrude function.... :lol2:

With Extrude you select a face and then use the extrude function to move the face in the direction you want then before unselecting regroup the section and the new section will be the old group you originally had an the face you move will be the new group you just created. I used it a lot when working on things like cylinder engines.

Low poly is good, allows people with low end PC's to be able to play your mod as you'd be surprised the amount of people still running low end machines.

Thanks Maj, that is a neat tool, though I wish it would copy textures already applied to the extruded section. Oh well, can't have everything can we?

As she stands, she is about 3800, but there are a lot of wasted polys around the guns that I can remove and drop it down another couple hundred. I may add some more dishes and antennae too.

Either way, I am quite happy with how she is turning out. :)

Yeah mapping textures is the worst part of modelling, at least for me. Deleting every hidden poly can really make the difference, that is one of my tricks and how my low poly models can sometimes look higher poly than they actually are.

She is coming along great Zax, you're making great progress.

Alright, well I did indeed drop about 200 polys by cleaning up the turrets, but when adding dishes etc, I brought it back up, so the final poly count is 3818. :)

Here are some shots of the finished model. Pics of her ingame and imperialized will come soon.

As promised, ingame shots. :) The Imperial version is still the old model for comparison, but it has a couple texture tweaks I did for the newest version.

A great improvement Zax, you did very well. The poly's you spent I think was worth it considering the compassion with the older version.

Thanks guys, though again credit goes to Amateur for his wonderful original. I only really added small details and increased the poly's of the cylinders. The rest is all him. :salute: I am now working on the Arquitens class, but it requires a much smaller revamp. It is already almost done.

Aaaannndd... here she is along with the finished Consulars. I must say, I am a bigger fan of smaller Star Wars ships than the massive capital ships.

Great editing Zax, I too prefer the smaller Star Wars designs over the huge Imperial and Mon Calamari ships. Great to see some progress on this, you're going great.

Thanks guys, it means a lot. I am going to try and implement them into the game now, adding them as purchasable units. Their rolls will be slightly different, so their costs will differ as well. As far as their armament goes, the Consular has 4 small turrets, and two defense turrets. The Arquitens has 4 medium turrets, and 4 more smaller ones, which I will say are for defense.

I think what I will do is have the Consular be a small fighter support ship, being able to track and attack fighters with its small weaponry and advanced sensors. Its weapons won't do much against capital ships, but will be good against other support ships. It will be fragile, but hard to hit, and fairly fast, being a predecessor to the blockade runner we all know and love.

The Arquitens class will be a capital support ship using 4 of the same turbolasers the Acclamator has, and having 4 fighter defense weapons. This ship will be a heavier hitter against capital ships, but will be slow, less maneuverable, and not nearly as effective against fighters or other support ships.

Alternatively, I could make it so the consular is the same but is not good against other support ships, and the arquitens have no anti fighter weapons, but be balanced against capital ships and support ships. What do you guys think?
