• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

So I don't think we have a Prodigy discussion thread yet, so I wanted to start one (ten episodes late, I know)

So staring off, this show is pretty confusing as to when and where the show was taking place. We eventually figure out they're likely in the Delta Quadrant, but we don't get a timeframe until the most recent episode (Episode 10). Most of the show was just various growing episodes for the various characters, and slowly trying to unwind the mysteries behind Gwen's father and the Protostar. I'm torn on the fact that Starfleet created their own USS Dauntless, which may or may not have a slipstream drive, but both Protostar and Dauntless have fairly close registry numbers, so they may have been born from the same project to create a faster-than-warp drive.

It's not a horrible series at all, though as far as being Trek-like, I'd say it's about as far away from Trek as S1 Disco and Picard have been. Definitely not something I'd rewatch but not a bad way to fill the space between other Trek series

For a series aimed at kids, I think it done really well easing them into the world of Star Trek.

I always figured Starfleet would try to replicate the quantum slipstream. I mean they don't have easy access to Borg transwarp technology, and quantum slipstream does seem less finnicky than a spore drive traveling through the mycelial network, which could anger the subspace pixies that live there.

For a series thats aimed at kids, it actually paid more fan service to the older Star Trek fan than any of the young ones.. they prob asked themselves.. whos Captain Janeway? Whos Captain Chakotay?? what is a Medusan? what is a Tellarite? then when Kobayashi came out it was.. who are all of these people on the bridge of this starship?? not realizing its the Enterprise-D

I never thought about that, but that could be a big problem going foreward, if their main target audience are kids who haven't seen Star Trek before. Then again, they may not have cared much who the individual people on the Ent-D bridge in the Kobayashi simulation were

They mention that Holo-Janeway is modeled after a famous Starfleet Captain name Katheryn Janeway, and they'll probably explain more about her if and when the kids encounter real Janeway. Who Chakotay is will also probably be explained once they find out what happened to him and his crew. What Medusans are has been explained. Tellarites are another species of alien to which Jakom Pog belongs, its not like there's much to tell about them, even if they are founding members of the Federation. With the Kobayashi Maru episode, you got me there. That was more aimed at people familiar with Star Trek already, but its not like you definitely needed to know the characters and the bridge set to enjoy it.

For not being a kid, I've enjoyed much of the first episodes of Prodigy, if only for being a ship fan and liking the look of the Protostar. Sure, it's Trek's version of the SR-1/SR-2 Normandy, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I'm a bit "meh" on the ship relying on a time travel element, since that is VERY over-used these days, but it doesn't kill my overall enjoyment of the series as a whole.
